Just wondered who you plan to have in the delivery room with you when you give birth. If I have my partner in the room does this make him my "birth partner"? I would like him to be at the hospital with me but not clear whether I will want him in the room with me the whole time.

Also when do you plan to have your first lot of visitors after giving birth (relatives eg, mum, MIL and FIL, sisters, brothers etc etc...)

DH only at birth. I can't imagine wanting anyone else around whilst I go through that! My mum and possibly stepdad will be coming over as well for a visit and the in laws are around the corner.

I hadn't thought much about guests although I know I don't want a parade of people after the birth. I will be in for 8 days after and possibly might only allow dm and DH in at first. Am thinking DH can take the baby to see his parents in the cafe or something? I don't think I will want to make small talk just a few days after the birth! DH also has a big family here so thanks for putting this thread on you have just reminded me to discuss it with him as I certainly don't want the whole lot descending on me in my room Grin

Just DP there for the birth. We'll be going home ASAP so not planning on having visitors at the hospital.

As soon as we're home tho, I'm happy for all and sundry to descend so I can get some presents show the baby off.

S'pose I ought to let the older DC's meet their new sister at some point too.......

Just DP. As Melody said he is the only one I want to share the nakedness, ranting and unreasonableness! He would gladly have let my mum be there instead but I insisted. Hooefully he will ultimately be glad he was there to witness it Smile

Just me and my DH.

My Mum is ITCHING to be involved but I told her I didn't want her there for my labour - three's a crowd and it's our private experience. I know she wants to be literally outside the room and busting in as soon as baby is out but I'm am having the baby at an MLU and hope to not to need to be admitted onto a ward after (you get a postnatal bed on the MLU for 6 hours) so there's no "visiting hours" as such, only your birth partner stays with you.

I am just not going to tell her when I'm in labour until the baby is out! It will end up putting her nose out of joint but I'd rather do it that way when she can still come and see me at home with the newborn (and hopefully forget about not being at the hospital) rather than say now - which will just cause bad feeling.

When everyone is saying midwife do you mean midwives? The only time i only had one was when we already knew the baby wagon so no need for one each. In my ideal world i would have no-one - i send Dh away in labour, i would rather anyone but him! I have had a birth with no-one there at all. One home birth with two ambulance crew and two midwives . And another home birth with four midwives. One student and one in suit and heels out of a meeting, the other two suited and booted.

Idaclair out of 5 births I've only had 1 midwife at the last 3 births.

SaucyJack · 01/02/2014 12:26

Idaclair

I only had one MW with my first hosp birth. She had poorly managed it tho- my mum had to chase her back from the front desk to tell her the head was hanging out- so I have no idea if that was correct procedure.

No MW at all for DD2. Unplanned HB on the lounge floor.
