I am currently 6weeks 5 days with my 5th pregnancy, will be first baby!
I had an early scan new yrs eve and it revealed my pea with a strong heartbeat of 140.
I am considering getting a Doppler for at home, has anyone got one or tried one etc, what's your feedback??

penguins exactly as I said: engage brain first. Using such a device to make decisions about seeking medical attention would definitely not be considered engaging brain.

I am not sure that is true. Plenty of people would believe checking on their baby with what they consider high tech equipment to be engaging brain. I don't think that the limitations are widely marketed or understood.

Well that's the beauty of a thread like this, anyone who reads this is aware that the device has limitations, which considering the price of the product should really be obvious but, sure, there will always be people who forge blindly ahead without thinking so it's great we have a place where people can ask just such questions.

If anyone came to me directly for advice I would happily recommend the product but with the caveat that it won't work for every one and that it should never replace the advice of a medical professional and obviously the only thing it could hope to tell you is that the baby has a heart beat, what that heart beat means about the health of your baby is way beyond the scope of the device. I would hope such things would be obvious but perhaps, as you suggest, they are not.

Penguins no, I didn't really press hard - I've no idea why she reacted that way to the home doppler. I did wonder whether it created an unpleasant sensation for her or something similar. Ice water, loud noises, etc, unfortunately all totally unreliable for getting my baby moving!

In any case - as I said, I found it reassuring because of the movement, not because of hearing the heartbeat, and I completely agree with you that these things are marketed without appropriate warnings and provisos.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply you did it hard Blush. Mind you, my bump gets prodded by the two older ones pretty hard. That can't be better! Grin

Oh, don't worry!
