Just been to toilet and got browny/red discharge. Am so upset and worried. Want to go to my scan today even less now. Is it bad news? Is it because we dtd the yesterday?

I'm 5+6

It's not necessarily bad news. Some bloody-ish discharge seems pretty common. It's such a worrying time, though. Good luck for your scan, although 5+6 is v early to see anything definitive...

VJONES1985 · 23/12/2013 11:00

I know, tell me about it. I don't have high hopes.

Try not to worry, I had light bleeding from weeks 5-10 and was adamant that I was going to get bad news at my scan. I didn't, and my 8 week old dd is gurgling away next to me as I type.

Just rest and take it easy, if you get any bad pain (slight cramping is usual in pregnancy so don't panic if you get that) then go and see someone.

Thanks

And yes sex can certainly cause some bleeding.

No, I had light cramping last week (around Weds) but all I have today is occasional twinges.

Sex can trigger a bit of bleeding particularly so early on many women are vulnerable to bleeding. But unfortunately at such a very early stage it's a waiting game. Is there a reason you're having a scan so early? Because of this bleeding?

VJONES1985 · 23/12/2013 11:10

No, because I'm T1 diabetic.

It could well be because of dtd yesterday. I've had bleeding (including gushes of bright, red blood) throughout this pregnancy from 6.3 weeks onwards and everything has been absolutely fine. Initially the bleeding was put down to implantation, and later bleeds have been caused by cervical ectropion/erosion and having a low placenta.
Yes, bleeding and spotting can be a sign of miscarriage but it can also be just one of those things - the hospital have always told me that bleeding is more common than most women imagine (approx 1 in 3 pregnancies) so it's not over yet.
Good luck for your scan xx

BaronessBomburst · 23/12/2013 11:21

Twinges are totally normal too. Your womb is stretching and changing so you're bound to feel it.

Lj8893 · 23/12/2013 11:22

Yep, when I had my bleeding in early pregnancy, every woman I spoke to said they had had some sort of bleeding in thier pregnancys.
My mum had 2 periods before she even realised she was pregnant with me!

ClearlyMoo · 23/12/2013 11:23

Hi. I had spotting after DtD at 5+4, it stopped fairly quickly (within 12hrs) and I was told it was "normal" and had to wait til my 12 week scan to know everything was ok! Hope things go ok xxx

redvelvetpoppy · 23/12/2013 11:28

This happened to me in my pregnancy with DS, I was scanned & also had some swabs taken to check for infection - all was well but I remember how frightened & upset I was. Are you seeing anyone after the scan?
I'm also T1 & 5w today & having early scan in Jan. Will keep my fingers crossed for you Thanks

VJONES1985 · 23/12/2013 11:42

Thank you. Yes, I'm seeing the diabetes midwife afterwards. Can't believe I have to wait two hours till my scan! At least the spotting seems to have stopped now.

Got some light period type cramps now. Is that good or bad?

OP posts:
VJONES1985 · 23/12/2013 12:17

LastOneDancing · 23/12/2013 12:22

I know its easy to say but Try & stay strong Jones, lots of people experience bleeds and everything is fine. I had lots of cramping for the first 6 weeks too xx

Everything crossed for your scan.
Will you let us know how it goes please?

VJONES1985 · 23/12/2013 12:23

Yes, will let you know. Scan is at about 2.00.

Feelingfatty · 23/12/2013 12:24

Oh v jones :( I really hope the scan brings good news. I had bleeding at around the same time as you're having with dd and all was fine. Fx

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 23/12/2013 12:26

Just to add to the voices saying it might not be anything: I had some brown spotting weeks 4-6, as well as some period type twinges (was convinced I was having an early miscarriage due to my GP's reaction) and had an early scan at 6 weeks because of it.

There was a tiny clot in my uterus which was causing the bleed but also a tiny heartbeat and everything was fine with the baby and I was told it was really really common and there was nothing to worry about. Also, today I had my booking in (I'm 10+3) and the midwife said there can often be a bit of bleeding after sex, so try not to worry too much. Hopefully the scan today will reassure you. (Now of course I'm 2 weeks away from my dating scan and worrying again!)

Good luck with everything - hope it's good news.

VJONES1985 · 23/12/2013 12:27

I just don't feel right.

OP posts:
VJONES1985 · 23/12/2013 12:28

Holiday - thank you for your kind words. What a shame it's probably too early to pick up a heartbeat today anyway!

OP posts:
ThisIsMeNow · 23/12/2013 12:32

Vj, please try not to panic. 5+6 is early enough to still have some left over blood from last af or implantation or even from dtd.
It may not be a bad thing.
When I had dd I didn't feel pregnant until about 16 weeks!
Cramps can be normal as your uterus grows.
Keeping fingers crossed and sending you some strength and positivity for the scan and whatever happens. Thanks

VJONES1985 · 23/12/2013 12:34

Thank you everyone Thanks Just wanna cry but am keeping calm for dh.
