My left shoulder blade hurts every day,but not for long. Is this serious? Am quite worried.

I don't know how pregnant you are and how intense the pain is, and also don't want to worry you but pain in the left shoulder blade is a late symptom of eptopic pregnancy.

If you are early on and the pain is intense then see your Dr.

Ullapull · 20/12/2013 22:03

How far gone are you? Don't hesitate to get medical opinion if in early pregnancy as it could be an ectopic pregnancy.

Feelingfatty · 20/12/2013 22:03

In between your blades Vjones? Mine are killing me today but think it's from carrying dd on my shoulders and sitting on hall floor watching a clown at her party! I'm sure it's nothing serious

Smithy007 · 20/12/2013 22:16

I had an ectopic pregnancy (if that is what is concerning you). The most obvious sign is one-sided pain that doesn't let up in the area of the ovary and I also had the 'prune juice', slightly red bleeding - which I mistook for a period.

The shoulder pain didn't come until later, but it is generally at the tip of your shoulder and is very very noticeable as something you wouldn't usually experience.

If you are worried at all head over to A&E to get checked out.

CatchesTheNightTrain · 20/12/2013 22:23

If this is not your first pregnancy and you have had a Caesarian at some point, this is another indication to get yourself checked out.

SimLondon · 20/12/2013 22:52

yes - as others have said its a typical eptopic sign. Please call your early pregnancy unit, they will have an out of hours service.

I want to mention that eptopic pregnancies aren't always a reason to panic, that's why you need to be checked out by an early pregnancy consultant - please call them now, they would far rather assess you and go down the natural route or the medicine route than you end up in emergency surgery.

Okay, this is baby number one and I have no ectopic symptoms apart from that. It has hurt every day off and on since perhaps Tuesday. Am now v scared but don't wanna go to hospital in case it's a waste of their time :-(

Oh and I'm five weeks and two days.

It's hard not to be scared but it's not a waste of their time and you'd be better to get it checked out and it all be fine than the alternative. Un-mnetty hugs ((()))

Feelingfatty · 21/12/2013 08:44

Oh Vjones I'm sure it's absolutely nothing but may as well get it checked. When's your early scan again? They may just let you wait until then??

VJONES1985 · 21/12/2013 09:21

Right, I called NHS Direct and spoke to a doctor who said it all sounds fine - ectopic pg is usually shown through pain in the shoulder tip, not the blade.

However, new fear this morning is that for a couple of days I haven't felt tired. Still have v sore nips and weeing a lot, but the tiredness was the thing that made me feel pregnant.

Feelingfatty · 21/12/2013 09:26

Oh Hmm sounds like you're very panicky maybe have dh take you out for the day try to take your mind off it! I'm sure you'll be knackered later and wondering what you ever worried about!!!

Chopsypie · 21/12/2013 09:28

I get quite bad pain my shoulder when I have trapped wind/constipation.

Could it be that?

VJONES1985 · 21/12/2013 09:30

Fatty - I am a total massive worrier and it's driving me insane! Am going to see my Nan today and she doesn't know about pg so that will probably take my mind off it.

Feelingfatty · 21/12/2013 09:52

I think you've just got to do what you can to try to stay calm, easier said than done but I try to think, every person in the world is a product of a successful pregnancy so they obviously go right for a lot of people!!!

VJONES1985 · 21/12/2013 09:54

Absolutely. I am worried about my early scan on Monday but I know deep down it's more than likely to be fine so am trying to look forward to it :-)

OP posts:
Feelingfatty · 21/12/2013 09:59

I'm sure it'll be fine just try to not worry as it's so early you may not see much anyway

VJONES1985 · 21/12/2013 10:02

No, I'm not expecting too much but it will be interesting to see it :-)

Feelingfatty · 21/12/2013 10:43

Definitely x

VJONES1985 · 21/12/2013 10:45

And I absolutely love Christmas so hopefully it will make this year one to remember for the right reasons

It is very definitely the tip and quite distinct so please don't worry.

You've got a long 35 weeks ahead so try to relax as much as you can. Maybe some positive visualisation will help?

When I am scared about my unborn babies (particularly with DD1 as had an ectopic before her) I used to look around and think of the billions of people in the world all of whom survived those 40 weeks just fine. Probably sounds a bit odd but it really helped me.

Have a lovely visit with your nan and relax over the weekend and that early scan will be done before you know it, and hopefully the best Christmas present you will ever get! Xmas Smile

VJONES1985 · 21/12/2013 11:04

Aw thank you, that has made me smile and am definitely going to try the visualisation - and also download Zita West's Pregnancy Relaxation.

To make the journey slightly shorter, I'm going to be induced at 38 weeks due to T1 diabetes so I 'only' have 33 weeks to go ;-)

OP posts:
greentshirt · 21/12/2013 11:11

Hope you are feeling a bit better. Hard as it is, you are definitely going to have to try and chill out a bit, its going to be a VERY long 33 weeks otherwise! Have a good weekend and hope scan goes well on Mon :)

VJONES1985 · 21/12/2013 12:01

I'm disappointed by the person I am now that I'm pregnant. I thought I would take to it well, enjoy it and revel in its wonders. Shame I'm a neurotic pain instead.
