How soon did you know you were pregnant?

We're TTC DC2 - it's only the first month we have tried but we have been giving it a good go (if you know what I mean!).
The first day of my last period was 4th December and since about 9th December we've done the deed about every other day.
In my head it is too early to test (or even be pregnant??!) but I woke up this morning with pains in my right side, a bit like period pain. I also feel a bit queasy and tired.
Part of me is thinking (and very much hoping!) it could be the very early signs of pregnancy though part of me is thinking it's probably not and more likely to be normal period pains or something.
So, how soon did you know you were pregnant and what signs/symptoms did you have?
Could this be the best Christmas present ever or should I not get my hopes up????!
Thanks!

Well if the pain is 15 days after the first day of your menstrual period it sounds like ovulation pain to me I get it some months. It's also known as mittelschmerz (mid-cycle pain). Realistically you can't expect any symptoms until after the embryo has begun implantation, so between 5 to 12 days after ovulation/fertilisation. In most of my pregnancies I've felt something between 2-4 days before my period was due xx

ChicaMomma · 19/12/2013 12:14

You've a great chance- but wait until 1 day before your period to test, otherwise it's an expensive habit to get into!
I tested the day before and got my BFP- i just knew though- temps were up, i'd a lot more discharge than normal, i just felt different..
it's definitely too soon to test now, try adn wait until day 26/27 if you can- depending on how long your cycle is

best of luck!

You knwo all the tricks to help implantation? lots of walkign to stimulate blood flow to uterus, deep breathing, brazil nuts and pineapple core?? dont know if any of them work but i got BFP on first attempt by applying all those (tenuous) rules!

ToffeeJungle · 19/12/2013 12:15

Thanks lizziekal - so I guess that means we just need to keep doing the deed as I'm ovulating???!

Surely by those dates you would only just be ovulating now? I would keep on trying and test in ten days.

TheCrumpetQueen · 19/12/2013 12:16

10dpo

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 19/12/2013 12:17

DH knew within days - before I did the test, and all three times.
He said I smelled different.

ToffeeJungle · 19/12/2013 12:18

Sorry x-posts - thanks ChicaMomma, i know it is too early to test but I'm sure you know what it's like?! Can't wait!!!! I will though - at least Christmas is a nice distraction!

Yep. The pain is normally caused by either the swelling of the ovary just before the egg is released, the contraction of the fallopian tube as it squeezes the egg downwards or the fluid which is released together with the egg irritating the surrounding area so I'd get on with doing the deed again today.
Good luck xx

deckthehallswithboughsoffolly · 19/12/2013 12:20

First time, not a clue until I tested about 14 dpo.

Second time, I knew within 10 hours. Yes I know its 'impossible'. But I had all the physical symptoms and I just knew. But then I convinced myself that I wasn't as the tests didn't show anything up until about 12dpo.

Some women do ovulate very early or late in their cycle, but its more likely that you are only ovulating around now, so keep on keeping on.

And step away from the stick!!

ToffeeJungle · 19/12/2013 12:21

I have been trying to work out my dates but this is the first 'proper' period I've had for about 2 years (I was on the pill for years, got pregnant with DC1, went back on the pill until last month,... so not sure how regular my cycle is or how long it is etc.)
I know I'm starting to obsess already which is not good - it is way too early for all this!!!!

first time I knew was when food started to tast a bit different - this has happened to me on every occassion and its like the food is either off or not quite right - a real give away sign to me! Usually hapens about 10 days before AF due - had made a meal for some friends and was panicking that I was giving them "off" food when it actually was really nice according to the DH!

AGnuMasqueradingAsAReindeer · 19/12/2013 12:40

DS1 - 7dpo I suddenly felt ill while at a course, went to the loo to compose myself & ended up with awful diarrhoea & passed out on the bathroom floor. DH had to come rescue me! That was my only unpleasant symptom in that pregnancy, other than the occasional ache when the bump got big.

DS2 - 8dpo, I randomly felt a bit queasy but insisted that it was just something I ate. DH nodded knowingly despite my insistence that we'd only done it once & conceiving DS1 had been "too easy" so we wouldn't be so lucky this time! Queasiness developed over the next few weeks until I couldn't eat/drink/get out of bed from 10 until about 24 weeks! Not such a fun pregnancy!

Hope you get your BFP soon OP! Smile

Writerwannabe83 · 19/12/2013 13:48

7dpo - I was hit by sheer exhaustion for about 2 days. I could barely keep my eyes open, being at work was near impossible. I felt shattered for absolutely no reason.

10dpo - constantly needing to have a wee.

13dpo - my boobs looked a little bigger.

14dpo - BFP Smile

mamachelle · 19/12/2013 13:49

I dont really remember when with the first three but with dd4 it was at 10dpo (we were using ov tests).

With dc5 it was a few days before my period was due. I didnt feel any different, i only tested because dh told me i had "pregnant skin". He was right.

FunnyFestiveTableRunner · 19/12/2013 13:54

Tested at 10 dpo. Had what felt like the worst PMT ever, the kind where you could cheerfully kill someone for no real reason. It was bizarre!

Cannotbelieveit · 19/12/2013 14:59

I knew about a week before AF was due, and realised After that I'd been feeling implantation cramping. Only dtd once whilst fertile but weren't trying as DS was only 4 months when I conceived DS2! 21+5 now!

ToffeeJungle · 22/12/2013 20:08

Well we've been dtd every other day over the past couple of weeks so fingers crossed!
Im guessing the cramps I were feeling were ovulation pains.
Just hope the next lot of cramps are implantation pains!!

Hi I tracked my BBT as I wanted to know what was going on with my cycle, and the first month I tracked was the month we fell. I had a strong suspicion as my BBT had not dropped as my period approached. We tested the day AF was due and bingo faint positive!! Hopefully this will be it, but if not I strongly recommend tracking your body temp next month (from 1st day period onwards) you just need a digital thermometer with 0.1°C increments and a place to track= graph paper or in my case iPhone app. I did it because I wanted to know what my body was doing, but also in case we weren't successful very quickly (I thought we'd struggle) so I could show consultant.

moominleigh94 · 23/12/2013 14:55

I found out just before 7 weeks. Had no symptoms or even any inkling that I was pregnant, just a missed period which I put down (naively and hopefully!) as being caused by stress.

HomeHypno · 23/12/2013 20:42

I had sore boobs and sore tummy but unlike before a usual period I was feeling calm, happy and unusually energetic. Fatigue, nausea and dizziness kicked in later with a vengeance. ...

bishboschone · 23/12/2013 21:36

Next few days , my boobs ballooned and I had pulling pains in my uterus . Also felt sick and had strange taste in my mouth a few days after initial boobs ballooning .

LastOneDancing · 23/12/2013 21:42

Boob pain at 4 DPO, developing into mega side boob pain and weird coppery taste at 7 DPO!

I was pretty sure.

StetsonsAreCool · 23/12/2013 21:59

We were on holiday when dd was conceived. In hindsight, I had symptoms immediately - went off all Greek food and only wanted to eat chips for the second week of our holiday, the beginning of a 9 month carb fest...

In reality, about a week before my period was due I had pmt for the first time ever. Dh put up with it for a week until one day he came home with a test to prove I was pg. He was right Grin

mssleepyhead · 25/12/2013 23:46

The three days after I ovulated I had really sore nipples for the first time in my life. 7 days after ovulation I got the same kind of bloating and aches I get at ovulation and started testing that night. 9 days after ovulation I got my first faint line. The next day I got a very clear positive on a clearblue test.
