We are really happy that were expecting our third child but completely shocked-we can't pin point a date when this could've happened and its not a time I'd have chosen but it seems meant to be. I did diet a lot this month I can't help think it pushed my ovulation out and maybe it happened late in my cycle but would it show from that single time unprotected 6 days before my period was due? Has anyone else got pregnant so late in their cycle, is it possible to get a positive a week after unprotected sex? TIA

Is it possible you had an implantation bleed, not a period, and are further along? I think you can ovulate any time but not sure that you would then get a positive 1 week later? Contraception error perhaps? I could never figure out when DD3 was conceived and never had the time to try and use the scan to work it out Smile

LydiaLunches · 19/12/2013 11:34

And congratulations!

IComeFromALandDownUnder · 19/12/2013 11:34

Could you be further along then you think?

Frizz1986 · 19/12/2013 11:47

I think it takes 6-12 days after fertilisation for the egg to implant and then another few days for a +ve pee test.
Normally you can only get a +ve test 9-10 days after conception at the earliest and thats dependent on how quickly your body produces the hcg hormone which is what the test detects.
I only got a faint +ve 14 days after conception and some take a lot longer.

My mother claims my brother is an immaculate conception. The only sex she had she was on her period and using a condom, and she still has no idea where he came from! He's the spitting image of his dad though so clearly no shenanigans!!

stowsettler · 19/12/2013 12:49

I fell pregnant with DD whilst on the pill. DP had a terrible stomach bug, I got a very slight case of D&V and that was enough. I remember waking one night with the most agonising abdo pain - really really painful but I took paracetamol, it subsided and I went back to sleep thinking no more about it.
About 2 weeks later I began to suspect pg, did a test and I was right. Am thinking the pain must have been implantation.

Zipitydooda · 19/12/2013 12:49

Try doing a test that shows the number of weeks pregnant, you may be a month more pregnant than you think. Happened to me.

Strongecoffeeismydrug · 19/12/2013 15:14

With the first two we were trying to get pregnant so knew dates ect.
With this little madam I didn't even know she was in thereWink.we were using protection , I laid in bed one night and felt the familiar flutters and thought omg I'm pregndnt(I don't have periods as I have severe pcos).
Went to the gp she sent me for a scan and I found out I was 25.3 weeks pregnantGrin.
Little miss miricle is now due In 6 weeks.

HoHoHopelessAtNamingBabies · 19/12/2013 15:24

Congratulations!

But did anyone else open this thinking it was going to be a spoof immaculate conception thread!

deuscat · 19/12/2013 15:55

HoHoHopeless yes I did Grin

But did anyone else open this thinking it was going to be a spoof immaculate conception thread!

Good point. OP have you been visited by any angels recently...?

poorbuthappy · 19/12/2013 15:59

Yep, I think this should get thread title of the year award... Xmas Grin

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 19/12/2013 16:03

I'd think it's more like you are a bit further on too.

Either that or you are experiencing an immaculate conception. 'Tis the season for it, after all. You wouldn't be the first woman it's happened to Xmas Grin.

4athomeand1cooking · 19/12/2013 16:05

We know that the only time we conceive is the day after I have finished my period which only lasts for 3 days.

Everyone seems to think this is impossible but as we have managed it 5 times I am thinking not!

Mignonette · 19/12/2013 16:07

I was on Depo Provera when I conceived. I was six weeks into my three month jab, had no reason for it not to work and my GP and OBGYN do not know why it happened. i was not overweight, had no gaps in administration yada yada.

So for all the comments earlier this week on the thread' things you'd like to say but don't' about how there is no such thing as 'accidental PG' and that contraceptive failure is 'your fault' stick that up your Shock Xmas Grin.

EdithWeston · 19/12/2013 16:09

Immaculate conception is not a tem for a virgin birth.

It refers to the salutation of Mary as "full of grace" (mistranslation of 'highly favoured") - for her to be in that state (ie freed of the taint of original sin) Mary herself was conceived as immaculate,

ohrubbish · 19/12/2013 16:11

We had a similar immaculate conception. We were using condoms and dh was working away a lot. And I have endo. No idea how or when but dc3 is due in 5 weeks! Took some getting used to! Good idea to get one of those tests which tells you how many weeks you are. Will give you some peace of mind until your scan.

ohrubbish · 19/12/2013 16:14

Oh crossposted with Mignonette. That really pissed me off too! Contraception faliure does happen! None of the methods are 100percent effective. Which means that some people are going to still get pregnant.

HoHoHopelessAtNamingBabies · 19/12/2013 16:19

Shows what I know.

ShoeWhore · 19/12/2013 16:22

Dc3 was definitely a one-hit wonder Xmas Grin (and we were using contraception fwiw)

EdithWeston · 19/12/2013 16:23

A question asking for TMI, but did you just do it once since last period and it happened to be unprotected? Or were you at normal frequency/precautions plus one unprotected? Because all contraception has a fail rate.

BikeRunSki · 19/12/2013 16:25

Me too Hoho

absentmindeddooooodles · 19/12/2013 16:26

Yy to contraception failing. My result of that is currently chasing the dog round the room with a lipstick too early for wine??

Was on the pill. Used it for years and years no issues. No antibiotics, d&v, took it religipusly same time everyday. Etc etc.

Found out I was 22 weeks pg after numerous tests/docs appointments and thinking I was dying of some unknown weird disease for months. ( didnt show or have a belly obv)

That was a shock I tell you! :)

NameToBeDecided · 19/12/2013 16:47

It is possible to get a BFP one week after conception. I'm currently 6+1 and I had a scan a few days ago because of a previous ectopic which put me at 5+4. When I counted back I was barely 3 weeks when I got my BFP which means it was about a week after conception. Explains the very faint line but it was there so it is possible.

getagoldtoof · 19/12/2013 20:33

Not at all foolproof but how dark was the test line? I got a bfp at 3 weeks, but it was light. Tests got darker each day. At about 5 weeks the test line was far darker than the control line.
