When do bumps start to show?!

Hi all,

We are planning to ttc dc1 in the new year. My only thought is that if we are lucky enough to succeed soon into trying, I could potentially be 12 weeks pregnant when I'm due to be a bridesmaid! Can anyone please give me details of how likely it is that a bump will be evident by then?! I appreciate everyone is different and you can never know for definite, but I'm just wondering when people start to show just as a general rule ..... If people could kindly share their experience that would be great!! If it makes any difference, I'm normally a size 12 and have never ever had a flat tum anyway!! ??

Baby still tucked in pelvis until twelve weeks anyway, so you won't have a baby bump before then, but you might have some water retention and bigger boobs!!!

I did not have a proper bump with dd1 until I was about 25 weeks. I just looked a bit more square and waistless!

With dd2 I had a bump at about 20 weeks.

bebopanddoowop · 05/11/2013 09:22

Probably not a bump but your boobs will likely be much bigger and you may feel more like bloated than an actual bump. Although I wasn't showing I couldn't wear tight clothes round my belly from about 9 weeks. Depends what the dress is like. But to be honest I wouldn't worry!

SaraBellum · 05/11/2013 09:23

Everyone is different so it's hard to say.

It's unlikely you'll be showing at 12 weeks if it's your first. You may be a bit bloated though.

With my first I was showing about 16 weeks.

Meglet · 05/11/2013 09:27

Your waist will probably be thicker with a small bump.

I had a podge from 8 weeks, but I started with a skinny, flat stomach so baby could only go out!

Sunnysummer · 05/11/2013 09:27

Unlikely you'll be showing, but might be a little bloated and definitely bustier than usual!

Cupcake11 · 05/11/2013 10:01

I looked pregnant from about 8 weeks - it's my first baby and I'm slim with a flat stomach normally.
I know it was obviously only bloating because baby is so small then but it was definitely bump shaped and hard.
Just to let you know it can happen!

mrsksays · 05/11/2013 10:03

Nothing showed at all until 15 weeks for me, except massive boobs.

Pinkbell123 · 05/11/2013 10:05

You won't have much of a tum at 12 weeks. I'm also a size twelve and was just a bit bloated and a bit chubby from constant crisp-eating! But my boobs were a lot bigger so maybe factor that in.

I started showing around 15 weeks and its my first. 26 weeks now and haven't gained much elsewhere but have a massive bump.

havingastress · 05/11/2013 10:06

Baby one, didn't show til 20 weeks.

This baby, massive (well, to me!) bump at 10 weeks.

If it's your first, I'd say you'd probably have nothing!

ChicaMomma · 05/11/2013 10:11

If you eat healthily and dont gorge on bad carbs, you will be the exact same as you are now!

vj32 · 05/11/2013 11:02

It probably won't be noticeable. But if you have to keep running off to eat or be sick... that might give you away!

Spaghettinetti · 05/11/2013 13:49

I'm 14 weeks and showing. I was looking pretty round at about 10 weeks with bloating/water retention. Do you have any control over what you'll be wearing? It might be worth having a chat with the bride about different dress options. I was pregnant when I was a bridesmaid last year and I was able to wear a really nice maxi dress style bridesmaid dress. You couldn't see any bumpage but my boobs looked enormous! I had hoped to wear the same dress for an even this weekend, but no chance! Remember, everyone's different and there really is no way of telling how you're going to be. All the best!

Im 19 weeks with my first and im still not showing.

However be mindful of other factors. My first 4 months of pregnancy i lost 18lb from HG. So i had to have my wedding dress taken in 3 times :-S

CoolStoryBro · 05/11/2013 14:13

With DC1, I didn't show until around 22 weeks. With DC4, I showed from about 22 days!!

PrincessKitKat · 05/11/2013 15:31

I was wearing my normal jeans with a bump band at the 12 week scan, so had a podge but didn't look pregnant just fat

What's your dress like?

dreamc1 · 05/11/2013 15:45

No. 1 showing at 11/12 weeks. No.2 showing at 8 weeks, went straight into maternity jeans as my clothing was so uncomfortable. However, I am usually a size 4/6, and 5ft1.

peeapod · 05/11/2013 16:05

im 12 weeks now and none of my old clothes fit well.. apart from the ones with an empire line, as in one where the waist is higher, and hides my extra tummy stuff, part baby part bloat

Brodicea · 05/11/2013 16:23

Same as cupcake - a hard swelling in the right place at 8 weeks but definitely too soon to be an actual baby. People at work started guessing from about 10 weeks. Similarly, Im 5'5'' and (was) a size 6/ 8 with a small frame - I basically have the abdominal length of someone much shorter!

paulwilson · 10/11/2013 00:38

Not sure if this will help, but my wife has been showing since 8 week's and now at 11+4 she really is looking pregnant; so much that strangers want to touch her tummy (strange right?)

I think everyone is different but if my beautiful wife is anything to go by, you'll have a little bump at 12 week's.

MrsShrek3 · 10/11/2013 00:57

dc1 - 14 weeks my normal stuff felt too tight but only tiny little bumpy tummy (size 8 here)
dc2 I felt fat straight away but nothing to see til after 20wk scan and didn't tell anyone til 22wks and nobody guessed. Then later I looked like I'd nicked a football and shoved it up my shirt Blush
dc3 - someone asked why I wasn't on the trampoline with ds2 when I was 25wks pg, there was nothing to see. we didn't tell anyone I was pg til 6 months. I have even gone back for a look at photos and there was seriously nothing to see Shock then it all popped out at about 28wks from nowhere! Then she was born at 36wks so some people didn't even know we were having her Grin

MrsShrek3 · 10/11/2013 00:58

yy to the extra boobage. go up a size in the bridesmaid dress?

Vikkijayne2507 · 10/11/2013 02:38

I started showing a bit of bump at 12 weeks really it was all insides starting to get moved up and making space. fron 15 weeks uterus is out of pelvis and bump much more defind. from 17 weeks everyone kept asking me. I'm usually a size 10 but am petite and bump is obvious

amandine07 · 10/11/2013 08:40

I'm expecting my first, didn't really have anything to show until 23 weeks- bump literally popped out overnight!

Don't worry too much, speak with the bride, maybe go for Empire line style dress which lets things flow rather than anything too fitted or tight.

morgs22 · 10/11/2013 08:47

I'm 14 weeks and got a little bump, thank god. Before this I just looked a little chubbier and now its starting to get defined Smile even got offered a seat on the bus the other day!
