Convinced you know the gender of baby

At 10 weeks I'm sure I know this baby's gender. As I was sure with my previous pregnancies. Didn't find out til they were born but right both times

Has anyone experience of being sure but then being wrong? I appreciTe the statistical arguments.

Yes, I really knew both times and I was wrong both times Grin.

And both times when I was told I was expecting a dd, I was secretly pleased overjoyed Smile.

Most old wives tales are rubbish. Shape of bump, nausea, heartburn, baby's heart rate etc is all rubbish. But they have found that women 'know' the sex of the baby more often than is attributable to chance. I'm sure it's not above 70 odd % accurate though so there is a huge margin for error but it is interestingly, the only old wives tale backed up with research.

I dreamt dc1 was a girl from conception. Always a girl in my dreams, never ever a boy. Referred to as 'she' from very early on. She is a she. DS I had no idea at all. I have a good friend who guesses the sex of other people's babies with 100% accuracy. She had been with me less than 5 seconds in each pregnancy and was certain they were what they were. She does it with everybody and so far is never wrong.

Absolutely certain I was having a boy...I now have an 8 week old daughter Smile

I've also heard the 70% intuition statistic. But from this thread the odds seem below 50!

I'm 8 weeks and CONVINCED it's a girl; have been since pretty much day 1. Not sure why as prior to getting pg I was 'resigned' to the idea that we would only have boys (DP one of three boys, oldest brother has three boys, next brother has one of each)... We'll see!

BummyMummy77 · 02/11/2013 13:48

suzie thank you.

It was more- not ever telling her she's fat or putting her down, that kind of thing. Which my brothers have never really had.

I guess I just wanted to re-dress the balance and prove a cycle could be broken.

I'm (hopefully) having one more after this and am pretty certain it will be a boy. There's just a certain type of women that end up with just boys. Unruly, monsterish boys! :D

I thought I was going to have a girl first time and she would be late. Ds came 2.5 weeks early!!! I was delightedSmile I was convinced second time I was having a girl as I carried so differently but I had another ds. He was 2 days late and has been trouble ever since!!!

Suzietwo · 02/11/2013 13:59

Bummy I thought I was one of those women. But I've ended up with a slightly wet, very sensitive whingy boy and astrong willed evil witch of a daughter!

BummyMummy77 · 02/11/2013 14:09

LOLOL!

Christ, if he's anything like dh he'll be a sensitive whingy boy and if I have a girl and she's like me, the same, I'll have an evil strong willed witch.

I hadn't thought of that. Grin

shineypeacock · 02/11/2013 14:40

Was convinced i was having a boy, no sickness, carried all out front, had lots of m

jaykay987 · 02/11/2013 14:40

Im still early on.....but don't have a feeling on gender. Im pretty convinced it might be twins though which is based on absolutely nothing but a gut fear!....eek!

shineypeacock · 02/11/2013 14:42

Grr!! Lots of monitoring and a tricky labour and all the midwives kept saying its an awkward boy, but towards the end of my pregnancy i became more convinced we were having a girl and we did! Shes 13 weeks and just perfect

Reality · 02/11/2013 14:44

I have never been wrong about my own or other people's.

RaRa1988 · 02/11/2013 16:26

Jaykay: I thought that. Turns out I was (sorta) right: two yolk sacs at 6+1, but as far as they could see, only one embryo. They thought it might have started off as twins, but nothing grown from one sac. Apparently that was right as by 7+5, there was definitely only one embryo and the other yolk sac had gone!

BummyMummy77 · 02/11/2013 16:29

Hmm, I had 4 months of morning sickness so bad I had to go into hospital a couple of times.

And having a boy. Although in this case I think I may actually be gestating Satan lol.

Suzietwo · 02/11/2013 16:41

Exactly bummy. In my head a boy would be the rough n tumble outdoorsy boisterous muddy bundle of adventure.

Let's just say he isn't, and leave it there.

And my mother mostly just laughs at me trying to deal with my almost 2 year old girl and says its pay back.

Everyone keeps telling me I'm having another girl. I've put on loads of weight around my bum and only have a small bump, am not "neat" and obviously look pregnant from the back.... I've seen the scans...it's a boy Grin

WooWooCaChoo · 03/11/2013 08:12

I knew with dc1 that he was going to be a boy. Couldn't look at anything girly cos I just knew it wouldn't be needed.

Got a feeling this one is a girl, but we'll have to wait and see! I'm not fussed either way tbh, I just want a snugly little baby that I can sniff as much as I want :)

ladylashes · 03/11/2013 10:01

My DP and I are CONVINCED we're having a girl (I'd secretly prefer a boy though if I had the choice). Guess we'll find out in 5 weeks at our 20 week scan if we're lucky :-)

sdaisy26 · 03/11/2013 19:20

I knew both times. Absolutely positive. I was wrong both times too.

sdaisy26 · 03/11/2013 19:21

Oh & my ms has been much worse (bad both times but a lot worse) this time round - with a boy.

shelley72 · 03/11/2013 19:27

Completely convinced dc3 was a boy, having had one of each. Though she did have a girls heart rate all the way through, I was still sure I was having another boy. Spent quite a few weeks in shock which I'm now slowly getting over Smile
