I had an emergency c-section at 30 weeks, 5 weeks ago. It was very scary but baby is doing really well!

I was totally unprepared and had nothing ready but he didn't need anything for a while, they don't put clothes on them initially when they are so small, and the hospital will provide nappies at first.

When he is ready for clothes, there is a charity called pop n grow that will send you a tiny outfit for free and the neonatal unit may have some clothes knitted and donated.

It's great that you are getting the steroid injections first, my baby was only on oxygen for two days before he was breathing for himself in air as the steroids prepared him so well.

The thing I have learnt is patience (and I am very impatient!!) progress will be slow and there may be backwards steps but my baby will set his own pace and actually had shouldn't be born for six more weeks.

You will get plenty of support.

In terms of recovery from the surgery, every day you will feel significantly better.

Good luck xx

Good luck, OP.

I went through an identical scenario back in March. Baby born at 29 weeks as placenta was failing. Severe IUGR (growth restriction). She was just under a kilo. Have they given you an estimate on the size?
Have they given you a quick tour of NICU? And a chat with the neonatologist? Have you had steroids?

Good luck for today. The emcs was ok-scary but because of the situation rather than awful (I'd happily have another). I found after the op and i knew she was 'ok' I relaxed. It was the first hurdle over iyswim.

pm me if you have any questions. She is fine btw. Still tiny but so far passed every test they've done. X x
