Tomkat, your ex-MIL sounds, er, erm, interesting...

jmf, hope the visit went OK yesterday, and you didn't have any Tomkat-ish shenanigans from them.

pg, hope everything is OK for you today, and you have some nice reassuring sockness.

I have invented a new cocktail. It's a sachet of Spatone, topped up with fizzy water and apple juice. I can't decide whether to call it a Rusty Apple or La Pomme de Fer. Rusty apple is snappier, but the French one is classier somehow.

Morning all - I've spent the weekend and this morning feeling anxious - have a scan on Wednesday - I'll be 8wks +5. I am still feeling nauseous but just can't imagine having good news at the scan - the last 2 times have been good. Also, even though I know I should be positive, I also feel I should protect myself and prepare myself for the worst .... ahhhh!! Any words of wisdom will be much appreciated ...

PG I hope everything is ok with you .... My friend has never felt sick in any of her pregnancies, I know nothing I say will help - I'm feeling sick but I'm still anxious, as I know that it is the placenta that causes this feeling and it doesn't necessarily mean all is ok (I felt sick with my last pregnancy and I still mc) - its sooooo hard! Try and keep busy - I find its easier during the week when I'm at work - then I fret at the weekend .... lots of hugs to you

Emki · 21/10/2013 09:38

just re -read my post - I mean the last 2 times have NOT been good!!!

SaggyIsHavingAPinkKitten · 21/10/2013 09:42

well ive just been to the 'cos I is a fat bird' clinic. I get all anxious at appointments nowadays, but it was a real anticlimax! did my blood pressure, listened to the heartbeat and sent me on my way! Confused
I did get to ask a question about GBS and they do nothing if I didnt have it in my last pgs. which considering the last one was 14 years ago and I tested + last year seems rather irish!
I cqn have a private test but apparently it doesnt mean much as things can change by delivery anyway!
Im rather confused now.
u might go and send an email to the GBS society and see what they have to say. it seems to me that this "not unless your last child had it" approach is shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted! Typical NHS! Hmm

Hi saggy sorry to be not at all clued up - what is GBS?

GardenWorm · 21/10/2013 10:45

kjh they won't give the flu jab if you have a temperature but other than that they don't mind colds etc

Saggy that sounds like odd advice, good idea to contact the support group....maybe the people working at the clinic aren't that clued up on it? What did your own midwife say?

pg & emki, I know it's hard but try and stay positive, we've all had the same thoughts. Remember, today we are pregnant xxx

Emki · 21/10/2013 10:50

saggy jut googled it - I was told I had tested positive with this on my 1st mc (20 wk mc - so they carried out lots of tests to see what west wrong - in the end it was confirmed I had caught a virus ...) I would contact the GBS society and see what they recommend for you.

Thank you garden worm xx

pgchimp · 21/10/2013 11:58

Just tried to post twice and niw trying again!

emki, thank you for the hugs and positive vibes. they are coming right back at you for wednesday.

I have an appointment with docs but not until 4 Nov, and I don't think I can wait that long, so am going to try an emergency appointment on Thursday.

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 21/10/2013 12:00

Saggy that doesn't sound right Halloween Confused I'm being tested even tho I tested negitive in dd2s pg, it was positive in dd1's pg.

Sounds like someone doesn't quite know what's going on!

Emki · 21/10/2013 13:09

pg how many weeks are you?

SaggyIsHavingAPinkKitten · 21/10/2013 13:14

Emki group b strep.
the weird thing is that this is basically what the mw has said in the past as well. This was the 'high risk' consultant today! Confused

pgchimp · 21/10/2013 13:32

hi emki
I am 7+4 today, so just a little behind you I think.

Emki · 21/10/2013 13:39

saggy definitely get a second opinion and contact the GBS society, the most important thing is that you are at ease and not stressed about this.

pg yes just under a week behind - its terrifying isn't it! I've stupidly just been on Dr Google and been googling 'can you still feel nauseous and have a blighted ovum' ... i'm going to need to turn the computer off at this rate!

Hope you're feeling a little more positive today ... sorry dont' know your history, how far along were you when you miscarried?

Bakingtins · 21/10/2013 13:44

saggy I've done the test in both pregnancies after a friend had a baby affected by GBS. I was negative both times but if you are a carrier I think it's better to know and to ensure precautions are in place. The private test is about £40 AFAIK and you can do it yourself between 35-37 weeks. A positive test then is a reasonable indicator you'll be carrying it when you have the baby, though it's true it can come and go.
There's a link to the lab that offers the test on the GBS website.

pgchimp · 21/10/2013 13:56

I was 8 weeks last time, hence the panic now. turning the computer off sounds like a good idea. My DH is very good at stopping me using Dr google!

kjh5 · 21/10/2013 14:35

pg and emki the first 12 weeks are the worst to try and get through. I found it helpful to take one week at a time. So when I wasn't in here being comforted and reassured by all these lovely ladies in my more neurotic moments, I'd congratulate myself on making it through another week and try very hard not to worry about or think too much about what might happen. I also promised DH and myself that if everything went well at the 12 week scan I'd do my very best to feel excited and positive (for the most part I've managed this quite well).

Thinking of you both and anyone else who is pre dating scan. Today you are pregnant xx

fod27 · 21/10/2013 15:37

Hi all!!!

6 weeks since work have been informed of my pregnancy and guess what??? Still no risk assessmebt! Now I have to self assess my bloody risk! So I'm registering a formal complaint, those of you in HR can you tell me If I'm within my rights to refuse to work until an assessmebt is out in place?

On a better note we've had the bloods back and I'm low risk!!! Yay

Emki · 21/10/2013 15:49

Great news fod

fod27 · 21/10/2013 16:26

Thanks Emki

Polka2 · 21/10/2013 16:36

Yey Fod great news about the bloods, not such great news about work, what are they waiting for? Do they want a tribunal?

pg you made me laugh with 'feeling peoples socks'!! Hope the sickness keeps reassuring you!

saggy I no nothing abut GBS or even what it is but I'd definately make a fuss if its concerning you.

I'm 11wk3 today and feeling pukier than I have for a few days (thought it was easing off but no) getting quite anxious about the impending dating and nuchal scan and have to have cervix measured to see if I need a stitch and I've as yet not received a date for my scan - worry worry worry.

fod27 · 21/10/2013 17:03

polka2 that's what I'm thinking too, hope someone can give me the right advice as u don't want to risk my job (well maternity pay)

IBelieveInPink · 21/10/2013 17:19

Fod - sorry lovely, I have baby brain. Remind me what you do for a job?
Breach of h&s regulations (which is what not doing a risk assessment is) actually falls under criminal law not employment law.
If you have a look at the HSE website this can give you more guidance. The initial suggestion would be to try and resolve it with your employer (raise a grievance) and work with a union (which I think you have?) to resolve it, and if it cannot be resolved, report them to the health and safety executive who will take up the case against them.
However, unless you have serious concerns about yours or your babies safety, I wouldn't stop work just yet until you have given them a chance to resolve it quickly. Obviously if you work on a farm/with chemicals this advice might change, but my fuzzy brain thinks you may have said teacher? (Sorry!) I would try and give them a boot up the arse to fix it first.

Janie -speaking of boots up the arse, how did it go with the cockgoblin?

Penguinita · 21/10/2013 18:06

Hi everyone! Been offline for a few days for various reasons, can't believe we have five pages of shiny new thread already! I've expanded my vocabulary with the word "cockgoblin". And how exciting that we have some posifrickingtivity babies about to put in an appearance Smile

Sister grad emki, we seem to do everything together! I have an early scan tomorrow evening when I will be 8+3, totally sympathise with your fears.

I've never had a scan with a live bean before. I'm terrified. Every time I imagine either outcome, good or bad, I start crying. I'm going to be a quivering mess before I even go in. Confused

fod27 · 21/10/2013 18:18

IBIP yes I'm a lecturer but I also use chemicals etc, I was appointed support in the class however it was removed then today I was appointed further 'support' which was a lecturer that sat on his fat ass! All day! I had a 6 hour lecture and spent all dat running around like a idiot.

Tomkat79 · 21/10/2013 19:23

Good luck for scans this week emki and penguin. We had an early one at 8+2 and were terrified. Cried before, during and after so totally understand your fears.

Sorry your work are still being so crap fod
