Is Thursday a scan day baking?

Yes, sorry if I've added to anyone's worries, I wouldn't mind having a cannula if I needed it. I stayed up last night reading lovely positive birth stories and I would recommend that to anyone feeling anxious, we tend to only hear about difficult labours so it helps to balance things out a bit!

Tomkat79 · 20/10/2013 09:14

Glad you've made it this far tins and good luck for Thursday.

Trying to keep rational about our scan on Wednesday, until at least Tuesday night but it's soo hard. Will be 12+6. If everything isn't ok I wanna know what this bump is that is making it's way out of my pelvis!

ChristineDaae · 20/10/2013 11:22

Pig great news that the twins were bouncy and waving Grin
Tins, good luck for Thursday!
I'm losing the plot today, DP literally stayed in bed allllll day yesterday, I took Dd out for lunch and soft play (not a horrible one, a small one in a cafe) and basically left him to it all day. Today he's woke up just a bit sniffly, came down to watch the moto gp then disappeared, iv just gone upstairs and he's back in bed watching Tv! dd has been all over me all weekend and I just want FIVE MINUTES!!!!

Bakingtins · 20/10/2013 11:30

If anyone is in need of positive birth stories [[http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ina-Mays-Guide-Childbirth-Gaskin/dp/0553381156 this book] is really interesting. It's a bit woo, you have been warned, but written by a midwife who served a community called The Farm in America for 30 years.

Bakingtins · 20/10/2013 11:30

or even this book

jmf294 · 20/10/2013 11:39

I certainly would prefer to have a cannula in and ready to use in an emergency than losing lots of blood, having my veins shut down and then junior doctors struggling to do one.
Cannulas don't leave needles in you, just a plastic tube and if it's in properly they don't hurt and should restrict you.
But I have a very medical view on these things, I could never think of a home birth or birth in a midwife only unit as I personally need the reassurance of knowing that an operating theatre, a surgeon, as paediatrician and anaesthetic are minutes away to rescue my baby.

My son was a grade 2 emergency c sec, that is he was showing distress, so not immediate life threatening but just one hour to get him out. He was fine but his apgars were on the low side initially.
Afterwards I was really traumatised thinking what could have happened if the midwife didn't interpret the CTG properly.

Anyhow- that's just my experience and opinion.
Wish me luck today, have the in laws coming for the day and no doubt she will comment on how huge I am which pisses me off. I have been at work /uni for the last 12 days and have loads of work to do so could do without there visit!! Plus don't get me started about them visiting when the baby is born- boundaries don't exist, she bloody got into the recovery room the first time when I was just out of theatre - WTF!!! Deep breath.

Have a lovely Sunday all and thinking of those with scans this week. Xx

Oh jmf I feel your in law pain. My ex MIL stood outside the delivery suite for an hour last time and somehow managed to sneak in the room. My midwife promptly told her that this was a live birth and not a spectator sport and banished her to the canteen! This was the same psycho that then 'came into milk' when she looked at a photo of my newborn son and proudly told me that her shirt was all wet from the leakage! She breastfed all 5 of her sons for 5 years each and begged me to leave my DS with her shortly after he was born. Errr no. I'm convinced the ol witch would've tried to latch him on.

Thankfully my in-laws these days are wonderful people.

jmf294 · 20/10/2013 12:07

OMG tomkat- that's a whole new level!!!
Yuck to the leakage, I'd have told her to go and see a doctor and that's not normal.

Tomkat79 · 20/10/2013 12:11

In my post birth state I can't remember what I said. Think my look of horror would have come across though. She spent most of last year sectioned. She's not right. DS calls her nutty nanny! Shouldn't mock people with mental illness I know, but she's also damn right nasty with it and I'm all out of sympathy!

SaggyIsHavingAPinkKitten · 20/10/2013 12:49

Makes my annoying MIL sound quite normal! Confused

ChristineDaae · 20/10/2013 13:00

Oh I never thought I would say it but I'm pretty lucky with my MIL! She wouldn't dream of coming over for or any time close after the birth. She very calmly made do with texted photos until DD was 2 weeks old and we took her home to meet the family (we live a boat/plane away)

jmf294 · 20/10/2013 14:19

Tomkat- it was probably the psychiatric medication that made her leak then!!
Glad your new in laws are better.
Well she came in grabbed my bump , asked if it was twins and said I was looking swell.
I asked her if she would prefer it not to be growing!!

whatswrongdownthere · 20/10/2013 17:13

jesus christ tomkat that's totally off the clock!!! thank goodness she's an ex MIL!! bloody hell!!!

BumpKitty · 20/10/2013 18:31

good god these MILs are bat shit! I think I would be sick in my mouth if my MIL started talking about lactating near my baby! Luckily I don't think this would ever happen though as I don't think she had never seen anyone breastfeed before I did it ;)

BumpKitty · 20/10/2013 18:31

*ever

Tomkat79 · 20/10/2013 20:24

She certainly is a funny one. She asked me if she could be there at birth as she thought it might help HER bond with her grandchild. I was like err no, you've done it 5 times and this isn't about you bonding with anyone!

jmf294 · 20/10/2013 21:33

Oh Tomkat!!
My MIL phones me up and asks how her babies are?
I tell her that my DH is fine. They are not her babies!!!
Another things she does that really pisses me off is tell my daughter I want to take you to stay with me for a week in front of my son, my son who is older can't go and stay because of his diabetes and the fact she has no clue about diabetes. I have told her off about that one because that is so wrong and I don't need my son t have any more issues about diabetes than he already has.
Must stop the MIL rant for now!!

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 20/10/2013 21:39

tomkat your exMIL sounds like a crazy one alright! i think that's one of the craziest stories i've ever read! eugh makes me feel a bit funny if i'm honest. i am so lucky that my in laws are the most lovely people on earth, MIl has crocheted us 2 lovely little baby cardigans and a gorgeous blanket for bringing baby home in. i nearly cried when she gave them to us.

last monday morning tomorrow, i could pop with glee, although i'm having to prep myself for boss-gate grrrr. feeling too positive today to get angry so hopefully i can just think about it tomorrow!!

hope you have all had lovely weekends xx

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 20/10/2013 21:43

oops sorry tomkat i only just read the bit about her actually having a mental illness...i didn't mean to refer to her as 'crazy', i totally take that back as mental illness isn't a laughing matter. i really hope my comment didn't cause offence , sorry x

BumpKitty · 20/10/2013 21:55

Janie good luck with your boss x

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 20/10/2013 22:03

thank you bump, fingers crossed he had a good weekend and manages to be vaguely human tomorrow! xx

Tomkat79 · 20/10/2013 22:04

Lol janie don't apologise. She's recently been diagnosed with depression but I'm going back 7 years here. Part of me thinks she knows exactly what she says and does and is just menacing with it.

Good luck with work tomorrow x

kjh5 · 21/10/2013 00:47

Yay new thread! Hello everyone, just had a quick flick through - Janie hope you managed to sort things out at work and hope everyone else is doing ok! Was lovely to read all the good scan news. I am super excited for some thread babies to start appearing!

Been suffering a combined stinking cold/morning sickness hell over the past week so have mostly been in bed. Does anyone know if you can have the flu jab if you have a cold? I've been ill and still having to come into work and it's seriously getting me down! I'm sure it's the air conditioning they insist on having on full blast all night. I was feeling heaps better after a weekend at home, been back at work shivering in the damn cold and am now coughing and spluttering all over the place!

pgchimp · 21/10/2013 08:55

Hello. Just joining the new thread (page 4 already!) I thiink I am still pg, but had a weekend of feeling unusual and 7+4 is almost exactly when I mc last time. Feeling sock again today so going to be positive.

Janie good luck with your boss, it sounds hideous.

pgchimp · 21/10/2013 08:56

Obviously I meant sick. I am not feeling anyone's socks!
