Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Pixie - loving the random dream. That beats my one where I have birth to a litter of 3 kittens.

Also want lemon drizzle cake. Lucky it was on my list of things to do today!

Shell - I think I am copying you. Been up all night with an upset tummy. Although I think mine is possibly 'dodgy chicken panini' related as opposed to 'baby related'. Disappointing.

IBelieveInPink · 05/11/2013 08:33

And good luck miss!!!

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 05/11/2013 09:28

pink i think i'll do your recipe this week too! i'm meeting a friend for lunch (read that as cake) today so maybe tomorrow :)

ladies who plan to breastfeed.... are you buying bottles / steriliser things?? i hadn't planned for buying these for at least a month or 2, but 3 people have told me i'm crazy not to have them.

IBelieveInPink · 05/11/2013 09:36

Janie - I plan to bf, but have bought one starter set of bottles (as I plan to express if possible) and have a steriliser from sister in law. Thought i would just get the very basics and see how we get on.

IBelieveInPink · 05/11/2013 09:38

However I only did that because I am planning on using them. If I wasn't, I don't think id get them. Maybe just work out which ones you would want, just in case you need to sent someone out in a hurry to get them!

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 05/11/2013 09:39

thanks pink...yes me too...although i'm now realising that maybe my boobs won't work or something and therefore i'll have no choice. i am going to battle on to try my best but there's always a risk of it not happening. right. off to the bottle shop i go!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 05/11/2013 09:40

Janie I breastfed both of mine for a long time, and I'd say you need something as a backup. Even just a couple of bottles and some sterilising tablets. You just never know. I'd also recommend a breast pump and frozen milk storage bags etc. That way, you can have emergency back up in the freezer in case for some reason you can't feed or need to leave them. Lots of BF officionados say ALWAYS feed them yourself, "my baby wouldnt take a bottle" Bla Bla Bla, and you may never need to, but its worth getting the stuff just in case. I had to go back to work early with DD and I'd pump and freeze so DP could feed her when I was out. I also got mastitis and although continuing to feed is the best remedy, a bit of pumping helped too. DC got a bit frustrated that not much was happening and it tasted different so I pumped and she got frozen.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 05/11/2013 09:41

Miss good luck. xx

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 05/11/2013 09:48

thanks saggy, great advice. i have a pump and some bags for the freezer, think it's definitely worth getting a kit...it'll be used down the line anyhow i guess. thanks again girls xx

Bakingtins · 05/11/2013 09:56

Miss good luck!

shellsocks · 05/11/2013 10:08

Thanks everyone, hope you're right and I'll have my baby soon Smile

Aggghh pink poor you, it's awful isn't it Hmm

Good luck miss Smile

Re bottles etc. I and a few of my friends topped up with formula before the milk came in as the baby is so hungry and only getting the colostrum so may want to be feeding from you literally constantly....depending on how your birth goes you might not be physically capable of this so we had (and have this time) bought some of the ready made formula cartons and a coupla bottles etc. just in case and we were glad of them...only used them one night but it was worth it. DH gave DS a bit of formula twice through the night so I could sleep Smile

Chocolateteabag · 05/11/2013 12:43

Shell - sorry to hear you are not well, fx you won't have too long to wait though. I did a lot of squats cleaning kitchen floor with a cloth on the afternoon that Ds started to arrive, lost my plug at 6pm, he arrived at 6am next day - just an idea?

Janie - I would recommend a steam steriliser which you stick in microwave - they are about £10. Even if you bf you will use it to sterilise dummies or cups & other feeding stuff etc later on. I expressed with Ds up to 8 weeks so needed it. I gave him a bottle from about 6-7 days in as I wanted to be sure he'd take both. I needed to give my nips a break! And I kept getting thrush which was like having razor cuts in them (for which you need the Fluconazole tablet don't ever get fobbed off with just cream/drops)
I then stopped expressing at 8 weeks as he went through a growth spurt and I was knackered so his 10.30pm bottle became formula from then on. I found bf-ing ok, but I liked the bottle as you could see how much he'd taken and it was easier to feed him. Much more expensive and more effort to make up and clean up. Also once DS got to 5 months he started yanking off me to look around the room which was lots of fun when I was out in public (think streaming jets of milk across the table Grin)

First proper day off with DS in nursery - have overestimated my energy levels and now stuck in front of Loose Women trying to motivate myself to go out shopping for DS's birthday party stuff this saturday.

Emki, I missed your post about the scan - that is great!

Me, sorry you're feeling rubbish, but again, really pleased to know that you've seen that heartbeat.

Kat, arghh, that sounds awful, and hope today is going OK.

I am 14 weeks now (yay!) and after spending the weekend moaning about how the tiredness was meant to wear off by 12-14 weeks, I suddenly realised that I'd managed without an afternoon rest for the first time in two months. Of course, now I'm feeling better, I'm worried that it's all going tits up. Oh well, 10 days-ish to seeing the consultant for the first time.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 05/11/2013 13:16

How the hell can Ryvita manage to kick me in the bladder and the top of the bump both at the same time??? Hmm

Polka2 · 05/11/2013 13:37

shell hope you dont' have to wait too much longer.

emki I too had missed your post, YEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY, was so worried when you hadn't posted, that is great news.

saggy Ryvita is obviously going to be a gymnast!

Just told boss/colleagues at work, who were all lovely, it's now starting to feel quite real!

Miss very good luck today.

andthepig its weird how something like the tiredness/nausea that has completely ruled your life recently, suddenly starts to disappear - my sickness is definately now easing (I'm 13wks4) but still feeling mega pooped!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 05/11/2013 13:41

Oh Christ! I hope not! DD1 was a gymnast! It costs a flipping fortune! Confused

Pixielady83 · 05/11/2013 14:39

saggy I've had a bit of that as well, really want to know which way round squiglet is but punches/kicks feel about equal at the moment. Need to know when I have to start hanging off the sofa upside down a la bat lady to ensure good baby position!!

ah polka so nice to be telling people :)

andthepig hope the tiredness continues to lift :)

Pentagon · 05/11/2013 14:51

miss I hope the scan went well!

shell and ibip - it all sounds very promising! fingers crossed something happens soon! We haven't heard from bump for a couple of days, maybe something has happened?

pixie that's one psychedelic dream Smile

saggy she's probably kicking and headbutting you at the same time!

polka scans every two weeks sounds amazing. They'll keep you sane till the baby starts kicking

andthepig yay for 14 weeks and telling people!

lucky we're doing well, thank you - Elsie's fine, DD1 is a bit jealous at times but it's to be expected I guess and I'm more confident and less stressed second time round.

hi to everyone else!

Pentagon · 05/11/2013 14:52

and polka yay for telling people! (sorry!)

Pixielady83 · 05/11/2013 16:01

Baby names... how have you all gone about choosing? Absolutely everything I like seems to have really increased in popularity. Then when I look at websites etc I just seem to see the same names again and again which doesn't really entice me to use them as everyone will be looking at them! I think we've got a boys name, which I don't love but I'm ok with... but struggling with a girls. Liked Ella, Violet, Alice but all seem to have shot up in popularity recently. DD is Lucie Rose so would need to complement that.

Bakingtins · 05/11/2013 16:08

Think this one will have to be clexane if we make it that far and it's a girl, maybe pred for a boy? Wink

I wouldn't worry too much about popularity. DS1 has a top ten name and has never had another child with the same name in any of his classes/groups. Even the top name is only about 1% of babies, after that it decreases rapidly. Maybe have a look at top 200 lists and discount the most popular 20 or so if it bothers you?

Bakingtins · 05/11/2013 16:11

Office of National Statistics name date for 2012 you can download a PDF of all the names from this link.

Pixielady83 · 05/11/2013 16:14

Grin tins well clexane does have a certain ring to it...!

You're right - popularity is probably not a massive factor and I suppose I know what names are really popular round here, it doesn't matter if you love it does it (the name, obviously will love the baby Wink)

I think there's no name that I'm really in love with and I feel a bit sad about that and not sure where to look for one! It's probably a boy anyway though. Apologies, very frivolous concerns to have compared to other pregnancy worries. Can you tell I'm working from home today Grin

Pixielady83 · 05/11/2013 16:16

ooh thanks for the link!

Polka2 · 05/11/2013 16:33
