BirdsDoIt · 30/10/2013 22:08

Welcome living!

Yes emki it was me you recommended the acupuncturist to - she's lovely and definitely really helped to de stress me post mc and I'm still going every month or so (too £££ to go more often) - so thank you Smile Remind me, are you south east London too? Maybe we'll end up in same nct class! Wouldn't that be weird...

christine I think those names are cool - though not sure I'd be brave enough myself, I love it when other people go for really unusual ones!

Penguinita · 30/10/2013 22:54

Good luck for tomorrow emki. And welcome living, nice to have you with us!

Chocolateteabag · 30/10/2013 23:16

Living - pains sound like ligaments starting to stretch, be careful with yoga and other stretching type exercises as you will now be getting more relaxin hormone coming in and you could easily over stretch.

As for bras - I've found I steadily went up in sizes to 28 weeks and hoping I've plateaued (at 32GG Shock) so maybe try to hold back a little or buy a couple in different sizes?

Last day at work tomorrow - feels quite strange to have got to this point but very much looking forward to a rest!

kjh5 · 30/10/2013 23:35

Thanks Kat - the thought of hearing a heartbeat is exciting! This bit is hard isn't it? Hope you are doing well!

Yay Saggy and Polka on the scan news! You both made me so happy reading your posts :) saggy I properly teared up reading yours Grin

Polka they take lots of factors into account but if it helps at all my nuchal measurement was 1.8 and I ended up with a 1:12000 chance of Downs...

Baking thinking of you for tomorrow...

Penguin you and pingu will get through tomorrow just fine and the milestones will speed past!

Emki I've had ms for 13 solid weeks now and some days are definitely better than others so don't worry if it disappears for a bit - am sure everything will be fine for you tomorrow x

Welcome living your back pain sound similar to what I've experienced and I'm now 15.4 weeks and have been told it's all normal. Wishing you all the best xx

Ooh Christine I love the names! Very unusual / excellent choices! Also jealous of your steam cleaner - I want one!

jmf294 · 31/10/2013 07:05

Thinking of you today Tins and Emski hoping for good scan news.
Lovely scan news Polka and Saggy!!
Hello Living- welcome to a wonderful thread, has been a great support over the past 6 months to me.
Christine I like the names but I'm just not cool enough for names like that.

Well I went to clinic yesterday, waited 90 mins to be seen, the consultant I was booked in to see refused to see me and then agreed to see me. I was really annoyed and I had my 2 children with me so it was horrible for them being there all afternoon.
He scanned baby, who is still a boy and was head down and booked my c-sec date of 25th nov- yikes!!! And they weighed me, how much weight have I put on!!!! 3 1/2 stone - that's disgusting and I'm cross with myself. Will be going to slimming world as soon as I can walk up the hill to get there.
My sister is having a c-sec today so looking forward to hearing her news hopefully before lunch.
Have a good day everyone!

GardenWorm · 31/10/2013 07:35

Ooooh jmf! We have a birth date! YEY! Grin

Christine love those names! (see I'm a marmite type too), I have kind of got one girly one but daren't say it out loud to anyone other than DP as I feel I may tempt fate. He said we will sit down tonight and pick names, no pressure then! We have tried to do this about 10 times before but never actually succeeded. I'm tempted to get the dictionary out Smile

Thinking of you today tins and emki, have everything crossed for you, what time are your scans? X

Enjoy your last days at work choc - Whoop!!!

MeDoingMyThing · 31/10/2013 07:41

Hi folks, looking for any advice I can get. Mornig sickness is off the scale, or rather morning nausea. I am now waking in the night repeatedly with nausea meaning I'm barely sleeping which I think is making the daytime nausea worse. Can't cope with this as have to look after my 5 and 3 year old and can't walk without each step making me retch. (Sp)

Does anyone have any advice? Sitting here crying. I have to go to London today for a meeting and really don't know how I'm going to manage it.

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 31/10/2013 07:59

Good luck with the scans today tins and emki, I'll be thinking of you both x

Happy last day chocolate!!! Exciting!!

And oooh for the csection date!!! So exciting!!!!

I'm off to a nice spa hotel today/ tonight with my friend but will try to check in to see how you're all doing. She's worried something might happen so has insisted I bring my hospital notes and a towel for the car!! The steam cleaner will remain in the box until another day Wink

Good luck today everyone with scans (esp Baking)

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 31/10/2013 08:56

living sorry i forgot to say hello and welcome! you;re in good hands here x

kat i bought this one in argos for half price. DH tried the handheld bit around the sink and it blasted off stuff i didn't even know wasn't meant to be there ha! and yup wooden floors, tiles everything! i think it might change my life ;)

Polka2 · 31/10/2013 09:11

Welcome livinglike janie says, you're amongst friends here! Cake

Love the fact that everyones in lurve with their steam cleaner as much as me!! The only thing thats a bummer is that if you have any tiles/wooden floors with wax on them then you can't steam clean them regular, unless you want to keep re-applying the wax as the steam removes the wax - yawnsville!

IBelieveInPink · 31/10/2013 09:18

Steam cleaner love! Woop! They are just the best things for cleaning windows!

WhatWillSantaBring · 31/10/2013 09:21

Morning all

Welcome living and good luck for scans today baking and emki

me - When pg with DC1 (when I had really bad nausea - I used to sit there clutching the desk actually wanting to be sick) I found the sea bands a god-send. I did wonder if it was pschosomatic (sp?) but one day I felt really nauseous again and realised the bands had slipped round. I don't think they work for everyone but for £3.50 its worth a try. I also found eating the biggest help - if I got hungry I'd feel really sick. Generally lived on salt and vinegar crisps for the first 12 weeks. Maybe trying having a snack before bed and then keeping some crackers to nibble on at night?

birds - good luck on getting the kitchen done. We're just about to do the same thing (eek!) Someone else (kat?) is also having some work on their house done too. We must be crazy. Batshit crazy, in fact.

I am enormous. People keep saying "not long to go then" - I've got 2 months of growing to do. If I get any stretchmarks I'm going to cry (I managed to avoid it with DC1 but I hear of women getting right up to the last few days and then getting them). Vain and shallow I know, but I really struggle with body image issues so I'm terrrified about what will happen to my confidence if it happens.

WhatWillSantaBring · 31/10/2013 09:23

Oh, and what's all this about using steam cleaners to do more than mop the floor? I got one with a handheld bit but so far the kitchen floor is the only thing that has been cleaned with it and even then only rarely because I'm a total sloven

BlackholesAndRevelations · 31/10/2013 10:00

Me- sorry can't help re: the ms but I found too that if I didn't keep myself topped up with snacks I felt horrendous. Not sure how you feel re: food? I second the calling in sick though!

Welcome living!

I NEEEEEEED to get me a steam cleaner. Off to check out the one you've linked to in argos Wink

BlackholesAndRevelations · 31/10/2013 10:38

Ooh, kat, do let us know how it does in the review! I was looking at a vax that was £49.99 in sainsburys but not as many features as Janie's one.

Bizarre conversation! When did I get so old that a steam cleaner is interesting to me??!

Polka2 · 31/10/2013 10:44

Kat I'm not 100% sure but think that'll strip the varnish/oil off the wood - I convinced my Mum to get one as I was bleating on about it so much, and she has a wooden parkae (sp!) floor and it stripped the oil/wax off that and we've just had slate tiles put in our kitchen that has a sealant wax on and they said if we used the steam cleaner on it we'd have to re-wax each time which is annoying but they're lush!!

MeDoingMyThing · 31/10/2013 11:11

Thank you katatonic - you have cheered me up even by answering! Feel so lonely as not very many people know I am pregnant. I can't miss my meeting today as am freelance so if I don't go I don't get paid. Think a visit to the gp might be worth a go as this waking in the night thing with nausea is exhausting. Just wish I could be sick!

MeDoingMyThing · 31/10/2013 11:20

Santa - I will buy some of those bands today. Sound like they're worth a try. I was no where near as bad with DS1 and 2. Wondering what I have in there! And with food I seem to feel sick if I eat too much and sick if I am hungry - a very fine balancing act that I keep getting wrong.

As for stretch marks - I had none with first pregnancy and then right in the last week with second pregnancy got about 8 or so. I was gutted too as I am sure I was bigger first time round. Now this may make me sound odd but now they have faded and I am back to pre preg weight I actully quite like them. Everytime I run my hand over them and feel the little lines it make me think of little DS1 And how much we all love him. I found motherhood quite tough until he can along and then it all slotted into place. I have never been a big bikini wearer so I don't feel like they have quashed my habits! Not sure if that helps.

shellsocks · 31/10/2013 11:37

Morning, you steam cleaner loving bunch of mad heads Grin

Good luck today emki and tins Smile

Welcome living and congrats Grin Here's to an uneventful pregnancy Smile

Great potty news guff Grin DS is still great in the house but not ready for outdoors so not sure what to do as time is running out before baby!

christine I love Sawyer for a girl but not sure on Cooper if I'm honest, but like all names as soon as it is given to the baby they take it on and you can't imagine them called anything else so you should defo go for it if you love it Smile

santa I didn't get any stretch marks either with DS and have escaped so far, really hoping I won't get any now too so I don't think it's vain, I'm a lot smaller this time tho so it's looking hopeful!

I've made it to my hair appt, phew! Gone for a total image change too so I'm glad I didn't go into labour last night (now that is vain santa Wink) About 2pm would be good tho baby ha ha Grin

kjh5 · 31/10/2013 14:16

Me I totally know where you are coming from - I'm nearly 16 weeks and have had morning sickness throughout but it lasts all day and seems worse at night, peaks at about 2/3am. I'm lucky in that I have no other DCs because tiredness makes it worse (so I really really sympathise with you there).

When it was really bad at around 7-9weeks) I found the only thing that helped was forcing myself to eat something every two hours. I lived off little packets of mini cheddars which really helped and if you can get hold of some ginger ale that helped too (ginger beer was too sweet and made me feel worse). There is definitely something to be said for ginger, it does ease the nausea, ginger nuts were great. I think it is different for everyone but plain carbohydrates were all I could really manage, so chips and potatoes or toast were all I really ate at the worst bits and I still have to avoid dairy as it doesn't really agree with the MS.

The main advice I would give is try to have as much rest as you can and as soon as you feel the nausea coming on or getting worse, force yourself to eat something.

Polka I am 30 - and I know that the risk of Downs increases with age and hormones in the bloods also heighten or lower the risk factor. As far as the nuchal measurement is concerned, I asked about it at my scan and was told that 1.8mm taken by itself was considered at the lower end of the risk scale. The midwife said a 2.9mm measurement would be considered at the higher end of the risk scale by way of comparison. Do try and not worry about it too much, I got myself into a bit of a state about the whole thing and I wish now that I hadn't.

Hope all the scans have gone well today!!

Polka2 · 31/10/2013 15:09

Thanks kj I am slightly jittery about it as DH and I differ so much on our course of action if it comes up as high risk (divorce!) and I can't seem to find anywhere on the web where it has stats for Mums' ages etc - I'm no good at waiting!

Me you poor thing, I too had horrific ms (which if I whisper, does seem to be easing ever so slightly) and I can thoroughly recommend cheddars too as a stash to nibble at in your handbag but also mints - they seemed to immediately alleviate the nausea (for a bit) and give me a boost too (I have the M&S extra strong ones in the tin).
