Hi all,
Lilus - so sorry to hear that. It must be so difficult to make rational decisions when there's so much uncertainty but I think if I were you I'd want to wait and see what happens, after all, you never know. Best wishes and fingers crossed for you.
Linzi- I have just got Your Pregnancy Bible from Amazon- it is a tome but having read the first few chapters it does give everything in detail so think it'll be a worthwhile buy. For those suspicious types like me who like to question authority
I'd also recommend Expecting Better by Emily Oster - it basically re-evaluates all of the accepted pregnancy wisdom (like how much alcohol and caffeine is safe, which test you can have and their risks etc) by going back and looking at the source research. It's quite American but I've found it a real eye opener.
I had my MW appointment on Friday- was there about an hour, going through all the questions and having bloods done. Never had any problems giving blood but only just managed to get enough before the vein collapsed and my blood pressure was a bit low, so hoping it was just dehydration as am used to drinking all the time atm! Got my 12 weeks scan on 2nd Dec - excited!
LV and Mrs C- my symptoms seem to be abating a bit too. I read that for a lot of people they only really kick in properly around 8 weeks but then surely if they started early they could ease off earlier too? I'm sure it is perfectly normal- you never know, the sickness could come back again then you'll wish you had no symptoms again!
I haven't told work yet - if sickness had got too bad would have done but holding off until scan if possible. Lv - once you tell your employer they have to do a risk assessment for you - even if one has been done before it will be different because you're pregnant, and I'm sure that will show that you shouldn't be doing heavy lifting etc. If you need time off sick then that's perfectly reasonable and if possible get your doctor to sign you off - IIRC I read that any pregnancy related illness can't count towards your normal sick day count. I'd read up on it and make sure you know all your rights- absolutely no point putting your health at risk, no job is worth that.
ETA: just found this: www.gov.uk/working-when-pregnant-your-rights
"Where there are risks, the employer should take reasonable steps to remove them - eg, by offering the employee different work or changing their hours.
If the employer can’t remove any risks (eg by offering suitable alternative work) they should suspend the employee on full pay."
