Hi all,

Has anyone out here experienced or going through pregnancy with a double uterus?

I found out about mine when i was 18 and am now 30 at week 12 with first pregnancy :) i know all the risks etc and so far so good but i want to know if anyone had unusual discomfort or sensation during pregnancy? I've come up with a few symptoms that have baffled the docs, they are not life threatening but feel unusual so im suspecting its to do with the unusual uteri?

The first is i can already feel the baby in the left uterus(conf thats where it is), it sits on my left hip and its uncomfy to bend left leg at the hip for a long time. thats not so unusual its more the following.

The second is last few days i have a really heavy sensation down below, and the feeling like i was 'loosing a tampon', docs have ruled out prolapse and bladder infection, i get heavy sensation during period which the doc thought was odd and this is just a stronger version of that.

I have 2 cervix's and find them really sensitive, i sometimes get shooting pains in them(this was b4 i was preggers) does anyone else get this?

think am looking for some comfort, have gone through the rigmarol for years of it being an unusual thing anyway so tying to find this kind of advice of what its actually like during pregnancy is really difficult  also am wondering how much is normal, just not normal as experienced by most women with normal anatomy who Ive spoken to :(

Hello, currently 9weeks 3 days with my first pregnancy. Found out today I have uterus didelphys but can't confirm until after baby born. Very nervous, hoping for successful pregnancy. Anyone else in same situation please? Any information please? Thankyou in advance

Afternoon all,

Can anyone that has been pregnant before please tell me what their implantation bleeding was like with a double uterus?

It’s more than likely I’m over thinking this, but I’m currently on CD13 and my period is going strong (since last night).

I’ve had some pretty damming pregnancy symptoms since Monday (abdomen twinges, nausea and backache) but BFN until 12DPO but haven’t tested since. Still having these weird stomach twinges in my left side, backache and feel pretty sick.

My question is, does this sound like it’s either in my head, a chemical or could I be possibly be getting more implantation bleeding due to the double uterous? Or does anyone know if it’s possible to bleed from one and be pregnant in the other?! Just want to put this to bed now and move on, but my body still feels out of sorts. (I’ve never had sickness and backache with AF previously)

Thanks 😊

@CrazyCatLady75340

Hi.. my experience of implantation bleeding with uterus didelphys is that I only had very faint pink watery discharge. I've had a few losses and sometimes the bleeding would start early and docs would tell me it could be my non pregnant uterus that's bleeding out but no one was ever sure.
Has your bleeding calmed down? Are you having any pains?

KagsD · 30/10/2021 18:00

Hi @Newmumhere2021, I’m currently 18 weeks with confirmed uterus didelphys. Lots of monitoring and consultant appointments so far but all going well (touch wood).

How are you doing? Hope everything is going well for you x

Hi all! Looks like no-one’s posted on here for a while - but hope someone comes across this post.

I’m 6 weeks pregnant (very early) and learned yesterday during a private early scan that I have uterus didelphys. I’m 32 and didn’t know until then, despite having had earlier pregnancies (this is my first child).

Im really shocked and obviously a bit devastated about the additional risks. But it’s so nice to find a thread with women so far into their pregnancies with UD!

Does anyone have any advice in terms of speaking to doctors etc - I’ve informed the midwifery team although my first appointment isn’t for another 2.5 weeks. I’m also going to speak to the GP this week.

Should I be trying to find a specialist consultant?

Hey everyone. I last wrote on here about six years ago after having suffered a miscarriage. I now have two boys and it has been a bumpy ride but they are 3 and 4 and very happy and healthy. My eldest born after 3 rounds of IVF and born at 36 weeks. Second son was born after natural pregnancy (shock after all that treatment) and came very early at 26 weeks but we will never know if that was down to UD or perhaps one of those things? I also had covid during pregnancy and there could be a link there. I was a tough time as he was in NICU for three months but no issues at all, he’s amazing. Although a rollercoaster we are very lucky and so very happy to have them. Both born by c section. In terms of anyone pregnant now, trust your instincts, if you’re worried , say so, if you need advice, don’t hesitate. Be that annoying person! As for specialist care, I’d say you’d perhaps need more monitoring in terms of scans and such like? I went did have a planned c section date with mine but they both decided to show up early so ended up with a few hrs of labour followed by c section in both instances. Just advocate for yourself and your babba and get the treatment you are entitled to.
Wishing everyone all the best on their journey. X

@Katyhart please don't worry about UD! the only main risk is preterm labour but sometimes you can go full term. I did! I had a planned c section at 38 weeks, baby boy would have waited longer but there was this one consultant who looked after me with weekly scans since week 5 and I wanted him to deliver our baby so we booked to be with him.
Also I found out at around age 30 otherwise I had no idea! I had a long journey as baby boy finally arrived after 8 years of trying and 7 losses but I was told the losses were not because of the UD... it was just abnormal embryos :( I had all babies tested so there were genetic issues with all. I say babies they say embryos.
With UD your uterus stretches to accommodate the baby but you need lots of scans to make sure baby is not in distress.
Also having progesterone as a back up to thicken the womb lining helps and I also took aspiring in a small dose to ensure blood flow from placenta to baby. Everything was normal but these were taking as precautions due to previous miscarriages and high risk pregnancy because of UD. You will be fine 🙏 wish you all the best ❤️

Wisher · 05/03/2024 06:46

@Katyhart and sorry, definitely ask for a specialist consultant. My consultant had two previous cases like mine but he was a specialist because he dealt with any high risk pregnancies. He recommended weekly scans to start with so he could ensure baby was growing okay and to see if womb was stretching and making enough space for baby. Especially after week 28 have to keep an eye and ensure there's plenty of space. Hope that helps x

Katyhart · 05/03/2024 09:08

Thanks so much both. I am just keen to make sure I’m advocating for myself with doctors and antenatal care - especially because I’m guessing many professionals I come into contact with won’t have dealt with this before.

The pre-term birth is scary, but I guess I can be reassured that babies are born prematurely all the time! And get amazing care in hospital to make sure they’re OK.

I’m so early on anyway, if things were different I wouldn’t even be thinking about later in the pregnancy.

It’s all pretty overwhelming, but I’m so pleased to hear so many success stories.

KagsD · 05/03/2024 19:10

It’s been a couple of years since I posted here but I now have a healthy 23 month old. I was surprised by how many health care professionals (drs, midwives, nurses) were familiar with UD. It’s rare but most people told me they’d seen it before. My pregnancy was consultant led because of the UD. The main thing I pushed for was fortnightly scans to measure my cervix as I was made aware that cervical shortening and early labour were common risks for UD. I was given this but had no issues and went pretty much full term with a planned c-section at 39 weeks. Hope that’s reassuring xx

Katyhart · 05/03/2024 22:33

@KagsD that is SO nice to hear thank you!!

NewhereN · 17/07/2024 18:43

Hi everyone, I cannot tell you how much hope this thread has given me. I am 34, TTC for the first time and have UD and one kidney (as well as spina bifida oculta, AND vaginismus, to add more into the mix). I also have a double cervix and have had a vaginal septum division in the past. My periods are very regular and we’ve only been trying for about 4 months but I’m terrified daily about the effect UD could have on a safe pregnancy or even just on being able to conceive in the first place. Every single one of your posts has given me so, so much hope I can’t even tell you. THANK YOU so much and sending you all love xxx

Kiwicountrygal · 17/07/2024 21:59

So pleased you found the thread helpful @NewhereN! I found it the same when I was TTC with my first. I now have two healthy happy toddlers (4yrs and 2yrs) both born via c-section at 37weeks with relatively straightforward pregnancies. My biggest (unsolicited!) piece of advice is to use ovulation strips so you know what your accurate ovulation window is (I ovulate at least 4 days outside the “average” app recommendations and had I not know this u would’ve been aiming for the wrong target for months), try and get an obstetrician if you can afford it, it’s comforting having extra monitoring and specialist care AND break your pregnancy down into goal phases (thinking about it as a whole can feel overwhelming if there’s lots of unknowns) ie get to 12 weeks, then viability at 24 etc etc.
Good luck! So many women with UD have been told crazy things and have gone on to have babies. Take it one step at a time xx

NewhereN · 17/07/2024 22:17

@Kiwicountrygal thank you so much for your message - hearing about your 2 little ones just fills me with such hope! Thank you also so so much for the ovulation strip advice! I’ve been using them and finding I ovulate slightly late too, around day 16/17 but still navigating all the conflicting advice around how long after the test is positive do you actually ovulate lol! I also love your advice on breaking things down into goal stages - I can’t tell you how reassuring and helpful this all is to hear <3 xx
