Hi all,

Has anyone out here experienced or going through pregnancy with a double uterus?

I found out about mine when i was 18 and am now 30 at week 12 with first pregnancy :) i know all the risks etc and so far so good but i want to know if anyone had unusual discomfort or sensation during pregnancy? I've come up with a few symptoms that have baffled the docs, they are not life threatening but feel unusual so im suspecting its to do with the unusual uteri?

The first is i can already feel the baby in the left uterus(conf thats where it is), it sits on my left hip and its uncomfy to bend left leg at the hip for a long time. thats not so unusual its more the following.

The second is last few days i have a really heavy sensation down below, and the feeling like i was 'loosing a tampon', docs have ruled out prolapse and bladder infection, i get heavy sensation during period which the doc thought was odd and this is just a stronger version of that.

I have 2 cervix's and find them really sensitive, i sometimes get shooting pains in them(this was b4 i was preggers) does anyone else get this?

think am looking for some comfort, have gone through the rigmarol for years of it being an unusual thing anyway so tying to find this kind of advice of what its actually like during pregnancy is really difficult :confused: also am wondering how much is normal, just not normal as experienced by most women with normal anatomy who Ive spoken to :(

It's lovely to hear you got pregnant and I wish you all the best and hope everything goes okay☺️ Being so young and an over thinker in general and I'm constantly worrying about my future and having kids. My nana had 2 miscarriages and a still birth so I wonder if maybe she and an abnormal uterus. It took my mum 14 months to conceive with my older sister but she had a normal uterus. Been fobbed of for year now over my problems, specialists and doctors throwing the pill at me left, right and centre and I still have the problems. I have asked for a referral to a different hospital because I'm getting no where with mine ATM. My recent scan showed that I her an 8-10cm blood clot in my right uterus and that's when one of the ward gynaes mentions the op to open the womb a little more so the blood passes. Having another scan on Monday and being seen after Christmas so fingers crossed they do something this time. So glad to have found this page and people's promising strories, such a horrible thing to go through as a woman. Thank you!!!

Sad news I’m afraid. My pregnancy hasn’t continued after a week of bleeding. Despite that I am feeling positive after the initial sadness. I know it’s possible and I can’t wait to get back to normal and start again. I know it’s not a great ending yet this is progress for me in a funny way. I am so happy that you guys were here for me to read your stories or have a little conversation with on this emotional rollercoaster. Thank you so much xxx good luck to all of you xxx

MamaofJax · 21/11/2017 18:57

@sophiesparkle

I'm so, so sorry to hear this, but it is so inspiring to see such positivity come out of this difficult situation for you. Still pulling for you and wish you nothing but the best! Have a wonderful holiday season and take good care!

Norma11 · 21/11/2017 19:04

I'm so sorry to hear that!! Wish you all the best for your future and hope things work out for you 😘

I had 4 miscarriages in a row all around 6 weeks, and then went for tests to find i had a double uterus with 2 cervix. I thought i would never have children which was devastating for me even though the gynae told me there was no reason i couldnt carry a child. I was about to give up as didn't want to go through the heart ache again and again neither did my husband. We took a break off trying, got married then tried again. 3 months later i found out i was pregnant this time knowing about my condition i was monitored the whole way through by a consultant every 4 weeks and regular scans, my son was growing in the right horn. I was nervous and expecting things to go wrong. But i had a very pleasant pregnancy no sickness or comlications, the only problem i had was at 37+4 weeks my waters broke and my son was breech. So i had a c section. Which i was fine with as it seemed the safer option and i just wanted my baby here safely. My boy was born a healthy 6lb 9oz 2.5 weeks early. i have an almost 14 month old healthy baby boy. Don't give up, this condition might test you, but i'm living proof it's possible. And have my rainbow baby GrinXx

LuckyMummy2017 · 05/04/2018 08:23

Hi all.

I have a double uterus and 2 cervix. I am currently pregnant with 6th pregnancy but only have 1 healthy baby boy. I lost 4 babies early on and carried my son to 37 weeks which led to a c section because he was breech. Apart from that the pregnancy was problem free, i was monitored closely by a consultant from 20 odd weeks, my son was in my right uterus and i have just found out this baby at 8 weeks pregnant is in my left side which i think is the smaller side. Has anyone had a baby in their smaller side or both sides and all been fine? Im a bit worried and hope everything turns out ok x

Hi,
I’m 22 and I have two wombs, but only one cervix and vagina. Does anyone else have this that I could have a chat with? Very confused and worried at the minute. In a couple of months I’m having the right womb removed as there is no conection to the vagina. I have so many questions about pregnancy etc. Any help would be really appreciated!

Funkym · 03/06/2018 22:49

Hi rachel96
I also have 2 wombs, 1 cervix and vagina. I've had a few pregnancies with 2 healthy children now one is 9 and the other is 6. Message me with anything you want to know x

KnitKitty · 05/07/2018 21:47

Hi Rachel96

Just wondering if you've had your surgery yet?

I had the EXACT same thing. Two wombs, one cervix and vagina and the left womb had no outlet at all. The blood was all backing up my Fallopian tube each month so I ended up losing my left ovary and tube because of a massive endometriotic cyst and suffered for a while from endometriosis. I had the left womb because of the pain it was causing and it was stuck to my bowel. I had it removed successfully with no complications about 10 years ago. PM me if you want to.

TTC now. Had a MMC in March but trying again now, and saw a consultant at the hospital after the MC who said I should have no specific complications due to the weird womb situation.

hi everyone.. im just new here, i just want to hear some of your experiences about pregnancy.
i just had a missed miscarriage last jul2, supposedly our baby is on 11wks but only to found out that at week 8 his heart stops beating.. and upon having my check up yesterday, i found out im having a two uterus, and im still having a follow up checkup to check what type of double uterus i have. im quite nervous as well after having a miscarriage but we still want to conceive. Is it really hard to start conceiving again and is it really risky to have this kind of two uteruses once rmyour pregnant..

JustKimmy · 30/08/2018 20:06

Hi I’m new here. :)

I’m just wondering if anyone has bled from one uterus while being pregnant in the other? I’m currently ttc and currently on day 8 of a 14 day window before I can test. I want to remain hopeful and I don’t know, but I feel like I am pregnant, but I began bleeding this morning and now my head is all jumbled.

lacour · 19/09/2018 14:46

Hi LuckyMummy2017

I am very curious to whether it turned out to be a problem or not that you were suddenly pregnant in the left uterus. I was pregnant two years ago, in my right uterus, but miscarried unfortunately. It was pretty hard but decided to try again, as the doctor last time told me that chances would be better second time pregnant. However, finally pregnant again, I was just told yesterday that I am pregnant in the left uterus this time, which might be the slightly smaller one. Also this means, that I don't benefit from this being my second time pregnant then. This morning however, I decided to try find some 'positive examples' and generally to try keep the hope high as I do (want to) have a good 'ground feeling'. So, very curious how being pregnant in the left uterus this time have turned out? Thank you in advance... E

Batatka · 22/09/2018 09:46

Hi all! I’m glad to have found a place where I can read some positive stories about pregnancy with two uteruses. My question might be a bit unrelated as it’s not about pregnancy per se, but rather about the partner - how did you tell your partner about your condition? I’m afraid he’ll freak out, especially since I tend to get emotional when talking about this. I can’t really find the way to do it and he’s really keen on us getting a child sometime soon (me too of course), so if you could give me some advice either here or in a private message (so that this thread doesn’t get off topic), I’d be really grateful!

Graliteja · 22/08/2019 13:26

Hi girls,
I also have double uterus, 2 cervix and vagina with septum. Septum is removed. I am interested in what to expect when/in case I get pregnant.
I wonder if anybody of you were bleeding in the beginning of the pregnancy? How did you then learn that you are pregnant (and how early) in case the other uterus continued to have periods? Were you still doing pregnancy tests even you were bleeding?

Prinprin17 · 03/10/2019 12:39

Hi Everyone

I’m 26 currently pregnant at 34 weeks with my first baby and I just want to share my experience as I know there’s not much out there in the way of information and I hope someone can relate/ find it helpful! I have two uteruses with 2 cervix and one vagina- baby is in the right uterus.
Previously I’ve had 2 pregnancies, one a twin pregnancy and one single pregnancy both ended in miscarriage very early on and this pregnancy began as a twin pregnancy in the right uterus but we lost one early on again. Currently at 34+1 but have had very close monitoring throughout. We were told that baby was looking quite small on the second growth scan at 30 weeks and since then have had a scan each week (for growth measuring and Doppler/bloodflow checks alternatively each week). Baby seems ok and kicking away like mad but has been head down since 30 weeks (drs think that he hasn’t got much room to turn around but we have just been lucky he’s head down and not breech which is common in pregnancies with didelphys. They’ve advised that they will get me as close to 37 weeks as possible and then they will induce me bang on 37 weeks as they don’t want to risk anything with how small baby is looking at the moment.
Bump is very definitely lopsided, particularly obvious when lay on my back and I struggle to lay on my right side at night but have had no feeling in the left whatsoever throughout.
Hoping to have a straight forward natural (with induction) labour but we will have to take it as it comes - as with most of this pregnancy!
As for periods and discovery I had the condition- I had really really painful periods from the very first one at 11 years old. Very heavy bleeding that sometimes would last for 2 weeks with very intense cramping. The pain would sometimes make me faint/pass out or vomit and I found the only thing that helped was strong painkillers and a hot water bottle on my tummy AND back. Kept going back to the drs and was told for years that it was just my age and that I would “just grow out of it”.... fell pregnant at 22 with a twin pregnancy and miscarried just days after finding out about the pregnancy and then again at 24 with a single pregnancy- they picked up on scans on both occasions that I had some kind of abnormality but it was only through pushing to have it investigated that I was referred for further tests. They did a keyhole laparoscopy as the consultant thought it may be a separate uterus wherein they could simply cut the septum away but they discovered during that it was a complete separate uterus and cervix and they advised there wasn’t much they could do and that pregnancy/having children would be very much a “trial and error” situation and that I would be monitored closely on becoming pregnant again, which brings us back round to present day!
The pregnancy has been fairly okay up until the recent growth scans with no sickness whatsoever and (touching wood here) no stretch marks to date, although I think this is due to baby and bump being relatively small due to restricted growth space. A few back/hip issues particularly on the left which I think is caused by trying to counterbalance the weight on the right but given that baby looks medically okay up to now, every day and every kick in the ribs and sleepless night is an absolute blessing.

Really hope that this helps someone as I have really struggled finding much information on people’s experiences other than this page....

Best of luck to all and hopefully I will be able to update you all once he has arrived(fingers and toes all very much crossed) xxx

Teddybear45 · 03/10/2019 14:30

Are they both functional? If so there may be a risk of conceiving during pregnancy in the right one in which case you should probably either use condoms or avoid sex during this pregnancy..

Prinprin17 · 03/10/2019 14:52

I think that’s actually abit of a confused factHmm when you are pregnant, the hgc hormone levels should be high enough to prevent further pregnancy whilst currently pregnant as they would with anyone else, single uteri or double - It is possible for it to happen as there have been cases in the past but I think it’s incredibly rare and would take some doing wouldn’t it? Surely the hormone levels would prevent the release of further eggs throughout the pregnancy? Although I know there have been rare medical cases I don’t think it’s a high risk? Also the empty uterus should just be pushed out of the way by the uterus with the baby in so it would be an immediate failed pregnancy as there would be no where for the egg to implant to become viable....either way I’ve had no issues up to now with unprotected sex during this pregnancy and the consultant I asked seemed to think it was completely safe...

Seasprayandsunshine · 03/10/2019 14:58

@Teddybear45
What an odd thing to say! Do you have any experience of this condition at all? Or do you just like giving out unsolicited, uneducated, scaremongering advice on every thread you read?

Seasprayandsunshine · 03/10/2019 15:06

@Prinprin17 Thank you for your story! As a fellow pregnant women with uterus didelphys it's so amazing to hear other women's stories. From what I have experienced it's a largely understood condition - and many medical professionals keep trying to revert to treatment/monitoring for septate/biocornuate uterus as that's the most common and what they understand!
I'm nearly 26weeks, I start the growth scans in the next two weeks.

Teddybear45 · 03/10/2019 15:18

@seasprayandsunshine Yes uterus didelphys Where both wombs are functional runs in DH’s family. All the younger women where it was identified (not everyone in his family go to the doctor during pregnancy) were told to use barrier protection during pregnancy. It’s really not something to be complacent about.

Prinprin17 · 03/10/2019 15:35

No complacency here - I actually asked about this when I found out I was pregnant and was reassured by two separate consultants that it was pretty much medically impossible although I am aware of rare cases in the media but that tends to be where the facts have been confused with the drama of the story.... I think the advise the women in your husbands family have received is probably a little over cautious given how basic biology and hormones work....

Prinprin17 · 03/10/2019 15:41

@Seasprayandsunshine

How wonderful! Congratulations! Agreed it is very misunderstood as a condition and trying to find any information is made difficult when a lot of the knowledge is more for the bicornuate/septate uterus which is very different from the uterus didelphys.
I hope your pregnancy is going well so far Smile Keep going with the hospital appointments - it does become very tiresome but it’s all for the best and it’s always reassuring to see little one doing well xx

Seasprayandsunshine · 03/10/2019 16:39

@Teddybear45 It's hard enough for women like Prinny and me to find information about our condition without having to listen to third hand, outdated and incorrect advice delivered like its gospel.

I know your advice likely came from a well meaning place but frankly it's codswallop. I won't go into the science of it but if you are genuinely interested it's very easy to find on the internet why women with uterus didelphys are not at all concerned with second uterus pregnancies. We have plenty of genuine concerns like miscarriage, uterine rupture, pre term birth, incompetent cervix's, underweight baby's, and emergency c sections to worry about!

Seasprayandsunshine · 03/10/2019 16:52

@Prinprin17

Thank you! It was so strange reading your story - we share so many similarities. This is my 5th pregnancy, 4 prior miscarriages, this pregnancy also started off as a twin pregnancy, I haven't had any sickness either and baby is also in my right horn - I struggle to bend or lift my leg on that side, my bump is also small and very obviously lopsided when I lay down.

I've had a very easy pregnancy so far, apart from the standard anxieties.

So 3 weeks and you'll get to meet your baby? That's so exciting! I'd love to keep in touch and find out how everything goes. Xx
