Hi all,

Has anyone out here experienced or going through pregnancy with a double uterus?

I found out about mine when i was 18 and am now 30 at week 12 with first pregnancy :) i know all the risks etc and so far so good but i want to know if anyone had unusual discomfort or sensation during pregnancy? I've come up with a few symptoms that have baffled the docs, they are not life threatening but feel unusual so im suspecting its to do with the unusual uteri?

The first is i can already feel the baby in the left uterus(conf thats where it is), it sits on my left hip and its uncomfy to bend left leg at the hip for a long time. thats not so unusual its more the following.

The second is last few days i have a really heavy sensation down below, and the feeling like i was 'loosing a tampon', docs have ruled out prolapse and bladder infection, i get heavy sensation during period which the doc thought was odd and this is just a stronger version of that.

I have 2 cervix's and find them really sensitive, i sometimes get shooting pains in them(this was b4 i was preggers) does anyone else get this?

think am looking for some comfort, have gone through the rigmarol for years of it being an unusual thing anyway so tying to find this kind of advice of what its actually like during pregnancy is really difficult  also am wondering how much is normal, just not normal as experienced by most women with normal anatomy who Ive spoken to :(

@Esmerelda1988 glad they’ve let you go home! Sounds like you’ve got a lot to think about delivery wise; it’s tough not having a plan. Hope you are resting up on the sofa now.

I’m still here-slept so heavily last night I didn’t even wake up when the woman opposite got induced and started her labour! Feeling like it’s less likely I’ll go home and trying to prepare myself for early baby (they still say they’d prefer to induce me over a c-section). But who knows I might be pleasantly surprised! I’d never really thought about induction before now and it does seem tough at the mo when you can’t have your partner on the ward.

Glad you’re doing well still @RNeeds9 and 39 weeks is a great date to aim for. Hope they stick to it!

RNeeds9 · 22/08/2020 14:42

@Esmerelda1988 yeah, I’m not sure exactly but yes you’re right. He said I’m not a candidate for ECV. So hey, ho! I guess we’ll see how we get on.

Hopefully you’re nice and cozy back home getting some good rest! I’m sure whatever delivery option you go for, you will rock it!

@londonliv2019 so glad you got some sleep last night! That’s great! It sounds like they’re looking after you well. I can imagine it is tough being in, especially with the covid restrictions. I’d go with your gut on your delivery decisions and do what you feel is best for you.

Yeah, I’m happy with our plan now. Tbh I’m just grateful to have made it this far and am keeping an open mind, trying to enjoy these last few weeks xx

Hey all, I'm new here and never used Mumsnet so it's my first message.
I'm 11 weeks pregnant with uterus didelphys. I've had 3 miscarriages in the last 12 months and this is the furthest we have got since TTC for 5 years.
I had bright red bleeding only for one day in week 6 and bled all week in week 8. Now that I'm 11 weeks I have had bright red bleeding again.
I ignored the first lot of bleeding as was told that could be implantation bleeding but now I got worried and went A&E and they told me they couldn't scan me on a weekend.
I'm really worried and not sure what to think so just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?
I haven't had large clots but there are small little dry clots within the fresh blood if that makes sense. And a lot of bloody discharge as well (sorry for the details)
Any experiences people have had, please let me know, thanks XX

erinhannah · 25/08/2020 07:26

Hey ladies! I'm doing well. Had my scan and I'm now dated at 13 weeks, everything looking good with baby in the left uterus which is what I suspected as all my twinges have been on the left! It's the side with the more patent cervix as well which I guess makes sense.

@Esmerelda1988 what a ride! Hope you and your little one can chill out for a few weeks more but even if you did deliver soon I'm sure all will be well :)

erinhannah · 25/08/2020 07:29

@Wisher Welcome to the group! Sorry it's under stressful circumstances. Have you managed to get hold of EPU for a scan? Or can your GP organise it? Definitely push for a scan ASAP. Thinking of you and hoping for the best. Keep us posted xxx

Esmeralda1988 · 25/08/2020 07:56

Hi @Wisher I would try and get a scan from EPU as @erinhannah says. I think UD can be linked to recurrent miscarriage but it's certainly not a given. Hope it all works out for you, keep us updated.

Well, I had my baby yesterday at 34+3! Waters turned green on Sunday night so back I went, it wasn't an infection but the baby had done a poo (!) And they can't leave them in once that happens. So she's here! Ended up with a forceps delivery despite her only being 5.5lbs. She got whisked off to special care almost straight after birth but I went to visit last night, she didn't need breathing support and they'll probably hang on to her for a week or two.
@londonliv2019 still cooking?

londonliv2019 · 25/08/2020 11:21

@Esmerelda1988 huge congratulations!! What lovely news that she is doing well and a great size. Hope you’re ok and resting up!? Fingers crossed for not too long in special care and hope you are able to enjoy some time with her today.
Still cooking....still in the hospital! I’m 34+2 now and blood pressure slowly creeping up so we will see what happens...

Esmeralda1988 · 25/08/2020 12:37

@londonliv2019 thank you! Feel like I've been run over by a bus but I imagine that's normal. Outcomes are really good for babies of that gestation but Ive just been told they can spend less time in special care if they can get to about 35.5 weeks so every day counts. Hope you're surviving being an inpatient, the food where I am is dire. I got a cheese sandwich and a yogurt for my post labour dinner Hmm

Esmeralda1988 · 06/09/2020 13:09

@londonliv2019 how are you doing?

londonliv2019 · 06/09/2020 13:52

Hello @Esmerelda1988 how are you and baby? Are you home now? Hope you’re both doing ok!

They let me out of hospital after 8 days as things all stabilised phew and just been back in for monitoring every other day since. Things still stable and induction now booked for next Sunday when I’m 37 weeks eek! Still giving induction a go even with my UD but docs have said they’ll have a lower threshold for switching to a c-section so we will see what happens!

Esmeralda1988 · 06/09/2020 15:04

@londonliv2019 that's great news! Glad you get to have the last bit of pregnancy at home. I was induced and ended up with forceps because she got stuck, they said c section wouldn't have been easy at that stage as they'd have had to yank her back up from the birth canal so I assume for you they'll go for a section sooner if you aren't progressing?
My baby came home today which is amazing, bit strange having her here after 2 weeks of being not quite a mum but finally feel like I can relax.
Hope all goes well for you.

erinhannah · 19/10/2020 22:24

Hey all! How are we all doing? I've had my 20 week scan (all good) but my consultant appointment has left me puzzled and worried! She said that there is 'absolutely no indication for a caesarean' and that unless the baby is breech I will be having a vaginal birth!! This goes against what most of you ladies have said... I can understand them supporting vaginal if that's what I really wanted, but I don't! I was all geared up for an elective section and now I'm so stressed :(

KimMarie34 · 23/10/2020 04:11

Hi all,

I'm not yet TTC (waiting until next year) but I have this too - I think from memory I have two wombs and one of everything else. I've known for years and was always told it was pretty rare so it's so nice to see all your positive messages! Have been told I'll see a specialist when pregnant and that's never a bad thing. I think from what I've read in the past that pregnancy is so different for everyone with this just because of the variation of shapes and sizes. I have a wall directly down the middle, so it's essentially one normal sized one split in half.

Esmeralda1988 · 31/10/2020 15:48

@erinhannah sorry I haven't checked the thread in a while! Had my DD on 24th August 6 weeks early, she's doing really well though. I was geared up for an elective too, but actually came round to thinking that a vaginal birth might be easier to recover from .are there any antenatal videos for your trust that you could watch? That kind of helped me get my head around having a vaginal birth but you could still ask for a c section and I think they have to grant it. Hope all is well otherwise?

Esmeralda1988 · 31/10/2020 15:51

@KimMarie34 Hi! Good luck when you start TTC, hope it all goes well for you. Mine is the same set up as you and I think my baby came early because she ran out of room, my left uterus is a bit of a weird shape as well which is where she was. As you'll see from our earlier chats outcomes do hugely vary, but it's worth ensuring you'll be consultant led when you do get pregnant so they can keep an eye on you throughout.

sunflowersaremyfav93 · 13/11/2020 16:40

Hi all,

Hope I'm not too late to join.

I was diagnosed with a septate uterus back in 2015 when I was 22, left it and did nothing else until July this year when me and my partner had decided we wanted to start a family early next year. Fast forward a few scans and today my gynaecologist tells me that in fact he thinks it's a dildelphic uterus but wants to send me for a diagnostic hysteroscopy and laparoscopy to be absolutely sure. He said there's nothing they can do if it's didelphic and that I could go on to have a healthy child.

I was distraught by the news and have been really emotional today but there have been some really positive posts in this thread.

sunflowersaremyfav93 · 13/11/2020 16:42

I should add he said it'd be a high risk pregnancy so I guess that's a good thing? I'd be well looked after? I know outcomes vary but generally I'm thinking that I shouldn't be negative about the news and should still have faith that I'll get my baby?

Esmeralda1988 · 17/11/2020 12:43

@sunflowersaremyfav93 welcome! I absolutely would go on the assumption that you have every chance of getting your baby. People are classed high risk for all sorts of reasons, a friend's wife is always high risk due to being diabetic although it's never adversely affected her pregnancies. It should mean you get extra monitoring and birth options discussed with you. UD comes in lots of unique variations, as you'll see from our chats through the thread outcomes can really vary person to person. After 10-11 months trying and a GP who wrote me off as infertile I know how daunting it seems but there really is every chance you'll conceive just fine and have a healthy pregnancy. Knowledge is power so if the Dr can ascertain your exact anatomy that will help. Have they offered an MRI scan too?

sunflowersaremyfav93 · 17/11/2020 13:26

Thank you @Esmeralda1988 that's so comforting to hear! I joined a Facebook group after posting this and there are plenty of positive stories on there as well so I don't feel as bad as I did and actually.. I feel as though I have just a good chance of conceiving and having a healthy baby as if I didn't have UD.

I had an MRI last week, before that I was told I had a septate uterus. But following the MRI I am being told it's likely to be UD but he wants to send me for a hysteroscopy and laparoscopy to confirm. We'll be starting TTC in Feb either way though. 🥰

Esmeralda1988 · 17/11/2020 14:42

@sunflowersaremyfav93 you really do, especially if both are a good size and functioning. Just make sure once youre pregnant that you tell every professional you see so theyre aware. I did get sick of the endless 'oh! When/how did you find out about that?' at scans though.

londonliv2019 · 03/12/2020 12:56

Just realised I went quiet on here @Esmeralda1988 hope you're getting on ok with baby!

My baby ended up coming early-spontaneously at 36+2. Was hoping for vaginal birth but I had a very, very quick labour and she got stressed and got into weird position so got tangled in the cord. So I had an emergency c section. She was head down but her legs were straight up which the surgeon said might've been as a result of a smaller womb/having less space-they couldn't be sure of course. But she was fine and lovely just a bit small!

All the best to those who are now pregnant/starting out on getting pregnant. Like @Esmerelda1988 said just keep telling docs/midwives about your situation. I found it had little impact on my pregnancy but because I'd had an open mind about different modes of delivery it helped when i had my c-section.

erinhannah · 26/01/2021 21:22

Hey ladies, how we all getting on? I'm 35 weeks at the moment, no problems apart from baby decidedly lives on my left side! Just waiting now... hopefully she/he will keep cooking a little longer :)

Esmeralda1988 · 26/01/2021 22:24

Hey @erinhannah, 35 weeks! That's flown by. Congrats on getting that far and really pleased to hear it's been problem free. Have you any thoughts on birth choices?

All good here- DD is 5 months now and developing well, slightly delayed as she was 6 weeks prem. Just noting for anyone else who might read the thread, she was born with positional talipes which means one of her feet turned inwards at birth but I've corrected this with exercises I was given. Paediatric Dr told me this is common with babies from a UD womb due to lack of space for baby.

erinhannah · 27/01/2021 11:50

@Esmerelda1988 Crazy that your LO is 5 months already, I feel like I was only just reading that you'd gone into hospital!!

My consultant has given me the option of section or natural, I have until next week to decide. Not 100% sure yet but thinking I'd rather a planned c section than an emergency.. esp as so many attempted vaginal deliveries end in sections anyway.

Esmeralda1988 · 27/01/2021 13:05

Tricky one. I think if I had another I'd try for a planned section but obviously early labour might dictate otherwise. I remember in labour when they were explaining it needed to be forceps then a section if they failed why on earth didn't I just ask for a section straight away when they said baby needed to come out. But that's not really UD related, just a general birth choice.
