Hello all,

After popping onto this thread at the beginning when I was 39 weeks, I've had a miserable few weeks of endless waiting and not a sniff of contractions (not even a single BH), waters, plug- nothing! If it wasn't for LO going crazy for a few hours every evening I'd begin to wonder if I imagined the whole pregnancy as a cover for scoffing too many crisps over summer!

Anyway I'm 41+4 today and have been booked in for an induction today, hence why I can't sleep at all.

My hospital is really busy so I'm worried they'll tell me to try again tomorrow, in case I'll throw a huge strop and turn into a teary snot monster (yes, I have been practicing Grin) but no point worrying about something that might not happen I guess.

It's my first and I'm sooooo impatient to meet him or her and get on with the sleep deprivation and sore boobs and best cuddles in the universe! Will they really be better than my OH holding me while I cuddle my sleeping cat? I can't believe there is anything nicer, but I'm also so excited about being proved wrong Smile

Good luck to everyone waiting, especially those going overdue xx

KikiShack · 08/10/2013 05:03

Oh many to say I've been between 2/5 and 4/5 palpable for the last 5 weeks, also had sweeps at 39+6 and 40+4, but nothing happening from them except a bit of bleeding which kept me in hospital for 2 nights before being discharged at 40+6 - that felt so unfair!! However I'm sure LO needed that extra bit of baking for some reason I may never know. I just how he/she won't object to being rushed out today, I do feel bad...like I'm hurrying baby to soothe my own impatience. Anyone else feel like this?

sillyoldfool · 08/10/2013 06:09

Good luck Kiki. I was induced with my first and went into labour four hours before I was due to be induced with dd2. Being overdue sucks, you have my sympathies.
I found induction fine though, and dd1 seemed ready to come once things got going - it was quite quick - she just needed a kick start!
I'm due today, with not a single twinge to show for it. I think this ones going to be tardy just like its sisters, I just bake babies for longer!

TeWiSavesTheDay · 08/10/2013 08:24

Possibly so silly.

I have good news for me which is that baby TeWi arrived in the early hours this am. Those of you struggling with endless braxton hicks, when I finally got to 4cm the rest of the labour was very quick, so hopefully it was doing something!

Very tired now. Baby girl is beautiful and worth it obviously.

Good luck with your induction Kiki!

GeorgieJo · 08/10/2013 08:26

Good luck Kiki!

I hope it all goes really well for you.

star87 · 08/10/2013 09:43

Good luck Kiki!

Congratulations TeWi!!

Am now on day 6 of bh coming and going :-( they seem to be getting a little worse and kept me up all night. Fingers crossed that today will be the day!!

sweetiepie1979 · 08/10/2013 10:41

Oh my goodness congratulations tewi Told you you were close! How was spd in Labour then? X

gainsbourg · 08/10/2013 11:57

Congratulations TeWi! And lots of luck for today Kiki - I think I may be following in your footsteps on Sunday as I am officially 41 weeks today. I think, like you silly, I may bake them extra thoroughly! Actually, it would now suit for the baby to remain lazily in utero until 1.30 on Thursday (bloody exam!).
So sorry that the BH are keeping you up star - I actually don't know how I would cope if I wasn't able to sleep at all at this point.

honey86 · 08/10/2013 14:14

aww good news! SmileSmile congratulations Thanks

hope everythings goingok kiki x

TeWiSavesTheDay · 08/10/2013 14:16

Thank you. My SPD was basically okay. I tried not to lie down and stay on my gym ball, which helped. They did hurt as baby pushed out, and I'd say try and make sure you don't open your legs too wide for examinations and the pushing bit etc.

I gave birth kind of kneeling up in the end which wasn't too bad.

First few hours after birth I was sore but starting to feel like everything's going back to normal now (finally!)

star87 · 08/10/2013 17:28

Just wanted to hear people's thoughts.... Someone told me today the when they had bad bh they were advised to take paracetamol and if the pains went away them they are just bh but if not they are real contractions. Anyone else heard this?

TeWiSavesTheDay · 08/10/2013 18:30

Hmm, kind of. paracetamol won't do much in established labour, but can work in early labour and early labour is real contractions though they can stop and start

bit of advice I found true was to have a bath, if it's bh they'll stop.

sweetiepie1979 · 08/10/2013 18:46

So tewi what pain relief did you have
If any and was that for spd and contractions or was oneworse than other?

TeWiSavesTheDay · 08/10/2013 19:01

I only had gas and air because I had a homebirth. Up to 4cms I tried paracetamol, moving around on gym ball (better than walking or stamping feet for hips) a couple of juggling balls I squeezed, general distraction like counting out loud length of contraction, or singing along to a song. After 4cms I stayed on ball and squeezed juggling balls + hit them against things, chewed on damp flannels and the balls, panting breaths, then gas and air when midwives arrived, kept squeezing juggling balls all the way to the end.

I got most of those ideas from a book by juju sundin called birth skills about being active in labour as pain relief, and used then when DS was born. I didn't have SPD then but the ideas plus gym ball worked pretty well for this labour.

Gas and Air is good because you can move around with it.

For hospital births I believe epidural is not advised, because it's too easy to open your hips too wide and potentially cause damage.

I didn't have SPD with DD1 either, but I had pethidine in labour with her and basically went to sleep for a few hours, so that's probs not great if you want to avoid lying down.

sweetiepie1979 · 08/10/2013 21:19

That sounds goof. I had homebirth first time round but damage to bladder and third degree tear has put me off this time. I'll Google that ladies name and have a read. Thanks. Hope everything is going well for you you sound so strong I feel weak and I've nit even. Started yet!

TeWiSavesTheDay · 08/10/2013 21:40

Gah, that sounds awful, can see why you'd be put off! I had my first in a very busy hospital, so had homebirth for 2nd, and 3rd. Neither is perfect unfortunately.

Definitely don't feel strong! Just relieved it's over with - I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine. I really hope you have a more positive experience, and that you'll see baby soon.

Oh, keep mentioning your SPD to the midwives so they don't forget if they are suggesting things that hurt/ don't work for you.

sweetiepie1979 · 08/10/2013 22:06

Ok thank you for that

star87 · 09/10/2013 11:29

Just home from my midwife appointment and still non the wiser! Asked for a sweep but she wont do one until my next appointment when I'll be 40+3 :-( however on a positive note bsby is 2/5ths engaged so at least things seem to be progressing albeit slowly!

How is everyone else doing today?

GreenSunrise · 09/10/2013 11:48

Good luck kiki, congratulations tewi!

I am shattered today. D H is a teacher and got told yesterday afternoon that ofsted were arriving today for the rest of the week so he had to work late last night meaning that I couldn't go to my pregnancy yoga class. I said that I would be on D S duty (he is not a good sleeper) and we had the worst night we have had for a long time. I was awake from 1.30 with heartburn and then he woke up full of energy at 2.30 and I couldn't get him to go back to sleep whatever I did. He finally went for a nap an hour ago so I am now trying to regain some energy for this afternoon. Today should have been D H's day off to look after D S and I should be relaxing but that has had to be cancelled because of ofsted. I will be going to bed as soon as I can get D S to sleep tonight, probably before D H gets home from work!

One of the benefits of having a bump is that one of our neighbours who I have rarely spoken to stopped me for a chat in the street today and she is lovely Smile

40+1 today and still no signs other than period pains. An booked to see my consultant at 41 weeks to discusssplans for induction and m w says he will probably do a sweep then (not looking forward to that at all!)

How is everyone else doing today?

SmallBee · 09/10/2013 12:48

I'm so knacked today! Although after seeing the night you had GreenSunrise I don't think I can complain too much about it.
Am trying to think of the last little things to pack/clean/tidy before bump comes. It is weird having an induction date for Friday as I KNOW that today and tomorrow are my last two days to myself.
I was in the hospital on Monday and there were six women in the delivery suites with another four on the antenatal ward who were essentially queuing for them, I am now so nervous that the wards will be full and they'll send me home to go in for the next day.
DH & I did go out for a meal last night, we've been given loads of advice to try and make the most of the last few nights we'll have just the two of us. Unfortunately the last thing I feel like doing it going out loads!
Hope everyone is having a lovely day?

sweetiepie1979 · 09/10/2013 13:06

Oh green surprise that's horrendous I'd be on my knees, luckily my 2.3 year old goes to nursery 2 days a week so this is my day off. I'm trying to do all the last bits and bobs round house too smallbee. Also going to pick up dome clary sage oil I'm sure that's what got me going last time. I'm booked for a sweep on Friday but I don't think I'll have it.

sillyoldfool · 09/10/2013 19:59

40+1 here too. Had a hideous night last night, both the dds slept through for once, but I didn't! Was up most the night with pain and upset stomach, really thought something might happen, but nothing Hmm
Was offered a sweep today but declined, am booked in to be induced a week on Saturday, really hope I don't get that far!
Just had to go up to dd1s school for a curriculum evening and was soooo uncomfortable sitting on their hard chairs.
Really want to go into labour tonight just do I don't have to waddle through the school run tommorrow!!!

sillyoldfool · 10/10/2013 08:20

Disaster has struck, dd1 has a vomiting bug, I'm 2 days over, pleeeeease by some miracle let her not pass it on!

sweetiepie1979 · 10/10/2013 09:15

She won't she won't she won't. Have you got some help? Keep your hands washed and hers use antibacterial gel inbetween. Goodluck.
I just had a really sore bh in my back!

TeWiSavesTheDay · 10/10/2013 12:16

It'll be okay silly! what terrible timing though.

Hope this is the beginning for you sweetie.
