bleeding in early pregnancy

Hiya, hoping some of you can offer me some advice here!

I'm currently about 6 and a half weeks pregnant and having some bleeding on and off.
I've previously had bleeding which very quickly turned into a miscarriage (within 24 hours), but also had bleeding with my 3 other successful pregnancies.

I know it's very common, and I've read lots of positive stories on here about bleeds in early pregnancy, so trying not to worry myself too much :) But I wondered if generally a miscarriage happens quite quickly once the bleeding starts?
Possibly giving myself false hope here, but this has been going on for about 3 or 4 days now. first was just brown blood and not too much of it. More yesterday morning, brighter red. Then nothing until this evening, more bright red.
I guess I am just hoping that as it hasn't turned into anything worse yet that maybe it won't?

Looking for honest answers and experiences here. I know there is nothing I can do, and I'll get myself down to EPU as soon as I can see the GP to refer me. But in the meantime....

I think you just need to hope for the best, I'm in the same position at the moment only I've had slight bleeding for 2 weeks now, I have a scan on Tuesday. It may very well be nothing to worry about but I would get gp to refer you for a scan, fingers crossed for you xx

thanks purple :)

hope you get good news at your scan

I've had the same thing, brown discharge at first but then over the weekend it turned onto bright red blood and was enough to soak a pad. Got an appt at EPAU on Wednesday when I will (hopefully) be 6 weeks. Just got to cross my fingers until then. I'm torn between going to the loo every 5 minutes to check if I'm bleeding and not wanting to go at all because I don't want to know if I am!

I had some bleeding with my first pregnancy and went on to have healthy DD born 12/09/10 but had a m/c in May this year and I'm worried its happening again.

Have you seen your GP yet bundaberg? I hope you get good news. You too purplefeogshoe.

I've had 2 is episodes of bleeding, bathe first when I was 7 weeks gone and the second when I was 10 weeks. When I had my first bleed I was scanned the very next day good, with my second bleed I couldn't get an appointment for 4 days. Thankfully both scans were fine and no reason for the bleeding could be found. However, my bleeding was predominantly brown although at times it was a bit mucusy with some brighter red bits in it. The first time it happened the bleeding lasted 2 days and was quite sparse. The second time it happened it was a little heavier and lasted 3 days.

I spoke to some of my colleagues who gave me lots of reassurance and I was surprised just how many people said they'd also had bleeding (brown and red) but still gone onto have healthy babies.

I hope you are off work whilst you are bleeding??

Good luck to all of you awaiting scans x x

bundaberg · 09/09/2013 14:25

thanks for the replies :)

not working as am a sahm (although to be fair, that's work enough in itself lol) but i'm trying to ignore as much housework as I can and keep my feet up.

I'm worried now because I am due to go into work tomorrow. Although with a 3 year old at home I often say that I go to work for a rest! I'm going to try and take it easy at work and if bleeding gets heavier I will def leave and come home.

It all this waotong

MrsFtn · 09/09/2013 16:39

Stupid phone! I was going to say its all the waiting I can't stand. I just need to know one way or the other. I guess even if scan is ok on wed I'm still not out of the woods.

It helps knowing others are going through similar. Especially as I haven't told anyone other than DH that im pregnant!

bundaberg · 09/09/2013 17:50

that's exactly how I feel! I just want to know for sure. I seem to spend my time right now thinking "hmm, i feel a bit sick, that's a good sign" "hmm i don't feel so sick now, that's a bad sign" and so on and so forth.

argh

And then I think "am I feeling sick from pregnancy or am I feeling sick from worry"!

I feel your pain bundaberg!

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 09/09/2013 18:27

I hope the scan goes well tomorrow...

IME miscarriage's have happened pretty fast after the first bleed, cramping etc starts and spirals quickly. Wheras 'just' bleeds aren't painful, come in dribs and drabs and then tail off.

But no one can say anything for certain until your scan, you know that though.

"And then I think "am I feeling sick from pregnancy or am I feeling sick from worry"!"

yes!!!
It doesn't help that I am the least patient person in the whole entire universe. I just don't do waiting and seeing. finding it so stressful.

thanks FRIGG :)

More of a lurker than a poster but wanted to share my experience.... I am currently around 9 weeks pregnant and have been bleeding since I was 5+2. Never much more than a bit of potting though has been through the spectrum of brown to bright red and back a few times. I first went to the EPU at 5+5. They saw a sac, no reason for bleeding and made me an appointment for 2 weeks time. Went back last week. Sac has grown. Is about right size for 8 weeks but very irregular in shape. The nurse said that in her experience this was likely to be a failed pregnancy but due to the growth since that last scan I need to go back in another week - appointment is tomorrow. So I guess what I am saying is nothing is happening quickly in may case. Sorry probably not the mist positive of responses. Fingers crossed for everyone else

bundaberg · 09/09/2013 21:07

thank you for sharing Hidenotseek. Not-positive is ok, got to try and be pragmatic about it as I know there's nothing I can do to change things.
Hope your scan goes well tomorrow

Fingers crossed for your scans tomorrow. Please let us know how you get on.

I hadn't really considered that I might not get a definite answer at my scan on wed. I was thinking it will either be a "yes everything is as it should be" or "I'm sorry there's nothing there" :-(

Thanks to everyone who has shared their experiences - good or bad it helps to talk about it i think

bundaberg · 10/09/2013 15:54

Well we have a healthy baby Grin

So relieved. No obv reason for the bleeding.

Great news bundaberg.

Not so good news for us. Scan today found no further growth so confirmed as a failed pregnancy. Back to hospital tomorrow for an EPRC. After 4 weeks of waiting and not knowing I am in a way relieved to have an answer even though it is not the one I wanted. Got to keep looking forward x

MrsFtn · 10/09/2013 18:12

So pleased for you bundaberg congratulations!

Hidenotseek I'm so sorry. It sounds as though you might have been expecting it but I know from my m/c earlier this year that until you actually hear for certain there's always that thread of hope.

I was thinking about you both today. I decided to call in sick at work in the end and so far I've had no bleeding today. This time tomorrow I hope to know one way or the other what's happening

Writerwannabe83 · 10/09/2013 18:22

I'm sorry hidenotseek - even if you expect bad news it still really hurts to hear it x You look after yourself and like you said, all you can do is stay positive x

The best of luck for tomorrow Mrsftn - I hope you get good news x

bundaberg · 10/09/2013 20:12

I'm so sorry to hear that hidenotseek :-(

I hope tomorrow isn't too hard for you. Will be thinking of you.

Thinking of you too mrsftn and hoping your scan goes well

OK so I had my scan today and they found a heartbeat! I was gobsmacked as I had a further heavy bleed this morning. there was an area of bleed on the scan too but no cause seen. I have to hope now that this resolves itself and baby keeps growing. Been signed off work for 2 weeks in the meantime. Still scared to go to the loo but fingers crossed the bleeding will stop soon.

Hope everything went ok for you today hidenotseek. I was thinking of you x

HideNotSeek · 11/09/2013 20:28

That's great news Mrs Ftn. Take it easy. I will have my fingers crossed for you.

I am home and feeling ok. Bit tired and very hungry. Was in hospital from 10:30 until 7 so long old day. This is not the first time I have had this procedure which made it slightly better - though 3 years and a lovely DD in between. Thank you all for your thoughts and words of comfort it means a lot x
