bleeding in early pregnancy

Hiya, hoping some of you can offer me some advice here!

I'm currently about 6 and a half weeks pregnant and having some bleeding on and off.
I've previously had bleeding which very quickly turned into a miscarriage (within 24 hours), but also had bleeding with my 3 other successful pregnancies.

I know it's very common, and I've read lots of positive stories on here about bleeds in early pregnancy, so trying not to worry myself too much :) But I wondered if generally a miscarriage happens quite quickly once the bleeding starts?
Possibly giving myself false hope here, but this has been going on for about 3 or 4 days now. first was just brown blood and not too much of it. More yesterday morning, brighter red. Then nothing until this evening, more bright red.
I guess I am just hoping that as it hasn't turned into anything worse yet that maybe it won't?

Looking for honest answers and experiences here. I know there is nothing I can do, and I'll get myself down to EPU as soon as I can see the GP to refer me. But in the meantime....

So pleased for you mrsftn. Hope the bleeding stops soon.

Was also thinking of you today hidenotseek. You must be worn out after such a long day physically and emotionally.

Also wondering how purplefrogshoe is doing... She had scan yesterday I think

I'm glad you are now home and resting *hidenotseek" - take care of yourself and give yourself time to recover physically and mentally x x

I had another scan this morning and although bleeding has stopped they found no heartbeat today and told me pg has failed. I'm booked in for ERPC on Friday as I can't stand the thought of waiting indefinitely for it all to come out. I'm worried now that it will start before then though.
Hope you are having a better time of it bundaberg and hidenotseek I hope you have physically recovered. I've not had the procedure before so I'm not sure what to expect afterwards.

Oh Mrs FTN, I'm so sorry to read that, how very sad. I'm glad they are letting you have the procedure so quickly, I think it is the best decision. I hope you have someone with you to give you lots of love and support and I hope Mr FTN is coping ok too x x

oh mrsftn i'm so, so sorry to hear that :(

i've had an erpc before. can't tell you anything about the procedure as I was under GA, but afterwards was just like having a period. I felt no discomfort at all.

So sorry to hear your sad news mrs ftn and hidenotseek - you both seem to have your heads screwed on and being incredibly brave which I admire immensely.

Came on this thread as I'm 9+5 and today noticed a small bit of (brownish) bleeding. From books/this forum I can see that bleeding is often not something to worry about, but haven't found anything to suggest why we might be bleeding if its not leading to mc? Is it the uterus growing? Is anyone clued up on the science behind it?

MrsFtn · 17/09/2013 19:40

Thank you writer and bundaberg. Its really helped having support and knowing others have gone through it and come out the other side.
Bebop - I don't think anyone can tell why in most cases. I had bleeding in my first pregnancy and all was fine but last time and this time it has ended in m/c and in both cases it was much heavier. I would say contact your midwife or EPU if you are at all worried x

beebop, i think i read before that it's quite often leftover blood from implantation. it can get stuck up there sometimes and then as things move and change it gets released.

brown blood is "good" because it means its old!

some people have small bleeds each time it would have been time for their period.. i guess it's a hormonal thing perhaps?

yes hormones bloody hormones have a lot to account for! thanks your suggestions sound plausible. I'm always comforted by science Smile
