Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

It is so comforting to read this thread. Currently lay in bed with a fruit pastille lolly after quite the theatrics in the bathroom this morning. I woke up thinking, wow, I feel ok! Then sat up and bam! I actually don't know whether to laugh or cry at myself some days! Hope everyone is okay x

Meerka · 10/10/2013 11:49

oh dear trying! are you a morning-better person usually, or an evening-better person?

Had 1 1/2 delightful, delightful hours feeling actually ok this morning. Now sick again, but damn, it was like a holiday for those lovely minutes :)

MurderOfBanshees · 10/10/2013 11:59

I don't know yet what the plan is with diabetes, off to get a blood test to find out if it definitely is diabetes in a moment. Have been told to avoid sugary stuff in the meantime, hard enough finding stuff I can eat anyway without having to avoid stuff on top of it :(

Ended up being sick again last night as well, worried the ondansetron isn't working anymore.

superwoman123 · 10/10/2013 13:02

So nice to hear other women are suffering too! I'm roughly 7 weeks and I started on Cyclizine on Monday, has been a help but far from making me better. Feeling so dizzy today I had to crawl to the toilet from my bed. This is going to be a long 33 weeks!

tryingtokeeppositive · 10/10/2013 14:10

meerka I'm a bad morning and evening person, with a couple of hours of not being sick in the afternoon. Joyous! Sorry that your relief only lasted a short time, it's depressing isn't it!

LucindaE · 10/10/2013 17:45

MOG Oh no, that is dismal. Urinary infections are bad enough normally, but with this... I don't see how you can avoid sugary stuff, if it's all you can face at times, pretty bad and vague advice, given your circumstances.
EggyOh dear, did you say that you'd had that novical stuff from the dr to help with bowels, so it hasn't worked so far?
Jen Oh poor you, re working late
Trying Oh dear, one minute's relief. I'm glad you find the thread comforting, everyone is very supportive on here.
I hope Everyone is managing today. Is this the day Sally's OH returns?

Sorry, cut of part of my message. Superwoman123 Welcome. I hope you get early relief. Is this your first?
Meerka I suppose half an hour is better than none - maybe it is the first glimmer of things improving?

Hi all,
Week one of DH working long hours over. He went for a job interview today which would entail quite a hefty commute so if offered the job, I had better get used to it. It's no problem when children are well, it's when you have to deal with a sick child and clearing up vomit etc that it's hard to be on your own.

On e plus side, I have had a better for the last two days. After the shocking milk episode the nausea has been less noticeable. I can definitely forget it for moments now, whereas before it was all encompassing. Let's hope its a permanent reprieve.

Sorry to welcome another newbie on the thread. It's no joke this illness.

eggybrokenoff · 10/10/2013 19:22

well i thought i may get some relief after getting some lactulose. jeez they arent kidding when they say vomiting is a possible side effect are they?! minutes after taking it i was the most violently sick i have been this pregnancy. i still feel terrible now two ondansetron later. urgh urgh urgh! hope everyone else has had an ok day. i have family arriving tomorrow to stay - no way will i be able to hide this!!

eggybrokenoff · 10/10/2013 19:23

oh and super cyclizine always made me dizzy too - dont be shy to demand sometjing else if meds arent working x

tryingtokeeppositive · 10/10/2013 19:49

Hope everyone is okay today. Can't imagine looking after children and feeling like this. Can't imagine going back to work either. What a drip I've turned into! Been prescribed Avomine by a young doc who had to google the condition. Yes, really.

eggybrokenoff · 10/10/2013 20:10

trying - that is amazing. i thought having a doctor who asked me to spell ondansetron was good but googling the condition?!!

dinner for me tonight is vanilla ice cream while my fabulous dh cleans the bathroom for me. guess it helps to look on the bright side - who else is ever allowed just ice cream for tea!

Sally8655 · 10/10/2013 20:52

What a day!
Picked dh up at lunchtime, it was so lovely to have him home. Then at about 3pm I had a fright when I went to the bathroom and ended up having to go into hospital. Turns out I lost some of my mucus plug. Baby is ok and back home again on bed rest. Been told to take it easy.
Feeling really sick and vomited a few times this evening but pretty sure it's been the stress and overdoing things that's making sickness worse.
Also unhappy that dh has to go away to Hong Kong in a few weeks time :-(
Really just want things to go well for a change

Xxx

ChocChaffinch · 10/10/2013 21:11

oh sally! that's shocking. was it bleeding? hope he's looking after you while he's here.

Sally8655 · 10/10/2013 21:27

Choc it wasn't red bleeding but a brown mucus, a bit like the colour towards the end of a period.
Well of course I freaked, rang the midwife and was told to get straight into hospital. I have also been having menstrual like cramps quite bad. Sometimes so bad they wake me up during the night. Paracetamol seems get rid of it but with this being first (and only after HG!) pregnancy I just don't know what's normal or not. I had just put it down to growing pains.
Had to have a rather painful internal examination and doc said it must have been mucus plug and prescribed bed rest. So back in bed again. Totally fed up.
Feel so sorry for dh, on his first day back home.

MurderOfBanshees · 10/10/2013 22:17

Sally Oh sweetheart, you are having a really rough time of it aren't you? I bet you are really fed up :(

Lucinda That's the problem, it's the sweet stuff that helps with the nausea. Confused Well I had my blood test, hopefully find out when I see the midwife on Tuesday. Have been getting daily migraines as well so I'm having a hell of a time of it. The doctor reckons that's related to the urine infection though, so should ease as the antibiotics kick in. Have spent most of today with a damp flannel over my eyes, missing my usual migraine meds.

LucindaE · 11/10/2013 09:27

Oh no, Sally and MOG! *Sally" What an awful shock. That is so terrifying, how awful when you were so happy to have OH back.
MOGWith cystitis normally, let alone with this - the difficulty is the flushing through that relieves the agony. I have a tendency to get it - I take bicarbonate of soda as an anti acid to relieve the stinging, but no doubt it is too salty to be recommended in pregnancy. I so feel for you over daily migraines! How long to they last? I had awful ones and all mixed up with dehydration headaches.
A connection between Hyperemesis and hormonal imbalance and migraine and cystitis seems to showfrom what the anecdotal evidence of this thread, all complicated by dehydration at times.
How is Everyone?

Lucinda & MOG, was a big shock but now I know baby is ok, I'm more dissapointed that I can't do anything when I'm starting to get some energy back. It did ruin dhs return as he was only back a couple of hours them we were say in hospital for ages.
Still quite sick this morning, also got some lactulose as I can't stomach drinking the movicol any longer! Feeling alot of pain in my side, obviously I'm constipated big time again :-(

Meerka · 11/10/2013 10:29

Oh blimey sally, so sorry to hear it :o I really hope you get some sort of break soon. How much further to go?

I hope your husband can at least lighten the load a bit now.

Meerka · 11/10/2013 10:30

gahhhhh wrong smiley again - very different from the skype ones! I mean Shock

eggybrokenoff · 11/10/2013 11:12

oh sally what a scary shock that must have been horrible. hope you can at least get some good rest with dh back. i am way too scared to try lactulose again today after yesteray - giving it a wide berth for a bit.

does anyone want a good laugh at my expense? it is stomach turning i warn you.
was bin day yesterday so outside bin where we put dirty nappies had no bag in. so i left ds2 morning offering in a nappy sack next to the bin. the dog took it upon himself to chew it up, spread it around garden and consume the contents. no amount of ondansetron can protect against that kind of nausea!

eggybrokenoff · 11/10/2013 21:33

oh waaaah now ds1 has sick bug. how much vomit can one family deal with?! hope everyone else is having as nice an evening as possible. think it will be a looong night shift here!

Totesamazeballs · 11/10/2013 21:46

That is how I felt last weekend Eggy. This is vomit season...urgh...you just can't avoid the bugs if you go out to toddler groups or they have siblings at school.

Sorry you are feeling so bad Sally. It really sucks.

LucindaE · 12/10/2013 09:46

Gentle pats, Eggy Toes and Everyone. Oh dear, up all night with ill LO's is wearing anyway. That is so Envy about the dog, yuk, it makes my stomach heave without Hypeemeisis.

hello ladies how is everyone doing this weekend? hope everyone has managed some rest.

i am getting so frustrated with food. you have this random need to snack on bites of crap throughout the day then cant face a meal that might actually contain a nutrient. and it is upsetting reading pregnancy stuff about how healthy eating is so important in the first trimester and how you should have so many portions of this and that a week. hard not to let it get you down
