Oo kat is that nuchal testing? Tell us more about harmony test...

Boomgoestheweasel · 12/09/2013 08:53

Kitty I'm not doing anything until I know I've got to 12 wks - only because last time I did keep up with quite hardcore fitness (boot camps and running). No evidence whatsoever that it had any bearing on what happened but now I'm nervous! Agree with the others, phone up and ask them about the reasoning behind it. And I only stopped testing when the CBD got to 3+ weeks...and even then I might have done one or two more Grin

Oooh thunder a heartbeat! Does it sound back-to-front? Wink

Merk I've got my next scan on 25/9 and my official booking appointment on 27th. The reassurance of Tuesday's scan has already faded and the 25th can't come soon enough! What I wouldn't give to be able to dopple! Am slightly put out though that when I phoned the private scan place to change my appointment I mentioned there were two and they said they'd charge me another £40 because it was twins Hmm..

MotherOfCleo · 12/09/2013 09:11

boom I think it costs more as you get a longer appointment. Still a bit shitty of them though.

I remember when I was on the berrys thread when Viv/GailPlattsChin was around, she said women going through IVF are told not to exercise during the 2ww. That made me think as I was doing heaps of bokwa at that point, I stopped until I got to 3 months just to be safe, kept up the walking though had to as we have a pooch. Thought it was just the high impact stuff they worried about though so not sure why she also ruled out yoga? Confused I agree, ring them and ask, just to put your mind at rest.

Thundercatsarego · 12/09/2013 09:20

Yeah boom now you mention it, it was more like moob moob instead of boom boom

So if you hadn't have known it was twins then they would have slapped an extra £40 on the bill as soon as they saw the second sac??? Where's the logic?

And what the hell is bokwa??

PoppySeedBun · 12/09/2013 09:22

Morning berries!
My next appointment is 25/9 for bloods and checking in.

feeling dreadful this morning. Had epic indigestion yesterday which blew me up like a balloon and just had to go home, even though there was loads of work I should have stayed to finish.
Thought I was doing better this a.m. but after an initially promising start of crackers and toast, I brought it all back up and went back to square one Sad
Now wobbling my way into work on the tube.
Just needed to get that off my chest - or rather, my stomach! Confused
On the plus side, I'd say symptoms are very definitely still here Smile

Boomgoestheweasel · 12/09/2013 09:34

mother yeah I suppose so, although at an early scan when all I want them to do is find the heartbeats and tell me everything's ok, I feel a bit ripped off - the NHS scan on Tues took 10 minutes beginning to end! So £120 for a ten minute appointment seems a bit steep....

thunder bwaha, for some reason the idea of your baby going moob moob has ticked me Grin

Poppy I'm also feeling a bit manky, I've still never been sick (so don't despair kitty!) but have definitely felt a bit foul over the last week or so, especially if I don't eat. Mr Boom threw out my porridge the other day (it was golden syrup flavour and he has a bee in his bonnet about anything with artificial flavours/added sugar - but it was all they had in the corner shop!) and now it's all I want....

On a night shift tonight, I'm not looking forward to it. AT ALL.

MotherOfCleo · 12/09/2013 09:40

haha, sorry thunder this is bokwa

I know that when we had our private scan the previous scan overran hugely and ours was really late, totally fine as we got all the photos free and instead of getting 3 photos he gave us all that he took which was about 10. Grin But he told is it ran over as the people before us found out they were having twins so he bumped us back to give them more time as he had to basically do all his checks twice, once for each baby. Not sure how they were charged but they got about a 30 minute appointment compared to our 15 minutes.

CatsCantFlyFast · 12/09/2013 09:58

Kat where are you getting your harmony done and how much (if you don't mind me asking)? We're debating it but really need to book this week if we are going to go ahead with it. THe big benefit for me is that you can find out the sex too!
Sorry for everyone feeling a bit crappy. I have run out of the multivits that don't make me sick so am eyeing up the ones that make me vomit and trying to find the courage to take one after lunch!

CatsCantFlyFast · 12/09/2013 10:18

Thanks Kat, have dropped you a PM. I didn't realise you were one of the few non Northern berries! although i have probably been told and forgotten

Where did you get the seven seas tablets? My chemists only stock pregnacare, and on amazon i could only find centrum sick making ones.

CatsCantFlyFast · 12/09/2013 10:24

One more point on the harmony. Whilst I am a hater of maths I hate crap figures, and my reason for considering the harmony is that the combined test is unable to produce an answer that would give me confidence wither way. Eg... for my age;
Probability of a screen positive = 1 in 50
Proportion of down's pregnancies detected = 78%

So if I get a screen positive I still then only know that I have a 10% change of having a down's baby, whereas if I am in the screen negative group I know that I could be in the 12% of people who get a false negative. I want some certainty either way hence considering other options (and hoping to avoid amnio or CVS).

I know this is a really personal thing, however being a control freak I simply want to know, which a good degree of accuracy, so I can plan. I personally do not feel the combined screening will give me the degree of accuracy I need to feel confident in the results.

Cavort · 12/09/2013 10:34

Sorry to butt in again, I took Seven Seas and they were always on 3 for 2 in Sainsburys.

I was also considering the Harmony but my NHS nuchal came back at 1:100,000 (aged 34) so I just couldn't justify spending more with such tiny odds.

Thundercatsarego · 12/09/2013 10:37

Thanks for the explanation ladies. I can totally understand why people would choose to have this test. The cost is prohibitive for me sadly. What a shame its so expensive.

BelissimaLol · 12/09/2013 10:56

Kat do you mind me asking how old you are? I'm 39ConfusedConfused and was expecting high odds but mine came at 1 in 37000 so like cavort I did not bother with harmony. Having said that your package sounds good and it's not that pricey so I can understand why you have chosen to do it
I chose to wait and see my odds before making a decision!

PoppySeedBun · 12/09/2013 12:41

Thanks for all the helpful info on Harmony and other tests. Me and DH haven't discussed what we'll do yet, so all info very useful. merk I know what you mean about the false positives and false negatives - can feel like you're getting more info even when you're not.

Today continues to be rough - although I suppose that's to be expected given I'm basically one meal behind on the day. Currently nibbling an oaten biscuit in the hope it will give me enough strength to tackle some lunch.
boom sorry you're feeling manky too - fx for your shift tonight to go well.
Thank god for day off tomorrow! Smile

Thundercatsarego · 12/09/2013 13:10

Well my nt results are in. I am considered low risk with 1:8462, which is adjusted from my background risk of 1:423

I know this is not as low as some like cavort up there. If I didn't know that though, I think i'd be happy!

Hello all, I've been away for a few days and am just catching up with everyone's news: DH and I are having a week off, enjoying our home town (which is a tourist destination) before we move up North (probs in November / December) and we stayed in a fancy hotel for a couple of nights.
Sorry to hear about barking, but so happy to hear about the scan outcomes for so many of you (and look at your blob pictures!): big news out there! The first 'Berry TWINS!!
I had what I thought was going to be my mega-long booking-in appointment, but turned out to be my pre-booking in appointment. I got my forms, my evil bounty pack, booklets on scans and Downs testing and of course my special wee-pot. Still waiting for my twelve week scan appointment - I'm so far behind so many of you!
Feeling sick as a dog today - just wishing there was something I felt like eating.
I'm now 6 + 5 so early days, but getting more excited as it goes along.

Boomgoestheweasel · 12/09/2013 14:25

Excellent result thunder!

I can't have the blood test anyway, it's not accurate with twins, so will just be the nuchal scan for me...

Was just googling random twin stuff and came across vanishing twin syndrome. I knew it happened but had no idea how common it was... Now utterly terrified, will somebody PLEASE wang me?

Thundercatsarego · 12/09/2013 14:50

Is it excellent boom?

I'll wang you happily enough, although I don't really know what that is. I started reading about late miscarriage last night and then wanged myself. WE HAVE TO STOP READING STUFF JUST TO SCARE OURSELVES...

Hey kat well I'm 13 weeks today so guess I am too late! But anyway I have thought about it and decided that I am happy to leave it be. I wouldn't consider abortion for Downs so knowing the chances are good is enough for me. If I get a healthy baby then that is miracle enough and I'll just be delighted!

CatsCantFlyFast · 12/09/2013 19:02

Thanks for the email Kat - mucho appreciated!
For anyone else who is wondering they can do Harmony up to 14 weeks I think (tho may be wrong as haven't read Kats email yet)!
