Well, you'd think, wouldn't you Thunder? BUT it depends when the egg splits. If it was two eggs, you'd definitely end up with DCDA twins (dichorionic diamniotic - ie different placentas and sacs), which is what ours seem to be. If it's one egg that splits later you often end up with MCDA or MCMA twins - these share a placenta and may or may not share the sac as well. BUT if it's a single egg that splits early on, you might get identical DCDA twins, and if they're the same sex or you don't find out sex you won't know until they pop out if they're identical or not! About 1/3 of identical twins are DCDA, but because it was clomid it's far more likely that they're non-identical.

Poppy if I can work out the photo thing I'm fairly sure anyone can!

Thundercatsarego · 11/09/2013 09:27

Ahh I see boom so an early split egg can result in identical twins who have their own sac and placenta.... Interesting.

So actually with the clomid you could have been more likely to conceive quads (release two eggs and them both split)?! Then again so would I because I have fraternal twins in the family so I may be more likely to release >1 egg

Boomgoestheweasel · 11/09/2013 09:50

Haha I suppose theoretically it could have been quads! EEEK!

  • glad that's over. All fine - measuring 8+2 as opposed to the 8w I thought it was, so I think we can call that spot on. Smile We saw the heartbeat and she said it was a good rate, though she didn't write down whatever it was in the report. Implanted nice and high up (which apparently is a good thing?) Was all a little traumatic, as it was the same clinic, room and sonographer as for my MMC. So very relieved to have come out of that room with better news. Apologies for the very dodgy photo - not helped by being an iPhone snap of a printout.
Boomgoestheweasel · 11/09/2013 10:45

Oh hurrah poppy, great news!! Your picture is nearly as blobby as mine but it's a very cute blob!

Mine didn't say anything about heartrate or where they were implanted...

Thundercatsarego · 11/09/2013 10:56

Hooray poppy!!

boom

In both of my early scans they said nothing about either. Neither at 12 weeks. Didn't even measure at 7 week one, just were happy to see the heartbeat.

Boomgoestheweasel · 11/09/2013 11:05

Ouch!

Ok, ok, wanged back into touch, I'll stop worrying! I do need to phone the private clinic, I had a scan booked for this Saturday but think I'll move it to next Sat. I definitely want another one before 12 weeks or I'll go mental, especially as we'll be in Cornwall at 10 weeks, which is when and where it all went wrong last time!

PoppySeedBun · 11/09/2013 11:30

Calm down ladies - it was a private scan, and not promoted by any worrying symptoms, so that might be why I got other info. Or because the nice lady wanted to reassure me after giving such bad news last time?

CatsCantFlyFast · 11/09/2013 12:42

Congrats Poppy on blob and it's lovely heartbeat. Enjoy today as the time after a scan is the least fraught with worry!

Boomgoestheweasel · 11/09/2013 12:47

poppy we're calm! I've moved my scan to the 25th, that's just before we go on holiday and should hopefully reassure me so I can enjoy myself. Might even get told heart rates and where they've implanted!

Ma & Pa Boom just came over, mum brought the biggest bunch of flowers I've ever seen and is uber-excited despite me trying to calm her down. She knows what happened last time but doesn't seem to be managing her expectations this time!

Kat I totally understand how you feel, exactly the reason I've booked another scan, because I can't get past the fact that things went wrong at 8wks even though I didn't know until 10. So I have to know I've got past that milestone safely.

Hope everything is ok and you feel reassured, what time have you booked it for?

Oh kat - I know exactly what you mean.
I definitely feel calmer after scan this morning, so hopefully you will too.
Fx for you and do whatever you need to do to stay sane.

Boomgoestheweasel · 11/09/2013 15:11

Good luck Kat, hope it goes well x

Thundercatsarego · 11/09/2013 15:41

Good luck kat x

PoppySeedBun · 11/09/2013 16:16

Can't keep off here today Smile
Maybe it's therapy for the fact I've had good news but can't tell anyone in RL?

Thundercatsarego · 11/09/2013 16:19

Come on kat.......

I understand that feeling poppy. We told no one til after 12 weeks, despite the two scans before that!
