Oh Rock, they do say that home dopplers are bad for just this reason! im sure everything is ok and the little one is just hiding!

Rockchick1984 · 04/09/2013 12:51

Thanks guys, the stupid thing is that when my friend was pregnant I remember warning her about dopplers for this very reason - they can make you worry unnecessarily! Apparently I have a retroverted uterus, not sure if that makes a difference? Just don't understand why my bump doesn't seem to be changing either.

kjh5 · 04/09/2013 12:57

Oh god dragonsaggy I am so with you on the pregnancy gods plea. Waking up every morning feeling like I have the worst hangover in the world (and continuing to feel like that all day) is wearing thin and I'm only 7+2. The thought of having to deal with this for another five weeks is killing me. On the other hand I'm so damn grateful to have symptoms and know I shouldn't moan... so I guess I had better stop then! Fx you are at the end of it and you'll soon enter that magical second trimester of feeling marvellous that people keep telling me about!

Total I don't know too much about dopplers apart from the fact that they aren't very reliable. If you are really worried can you not call your midwife? I'm sure everything is absolutely fine xxx

Welcome PFJ and huge congrats on your BFP. Today you are pregnant! Loving your posifrickintivity - here's hoping you have an uneventful pregnancy :) xxx

kjh5 · 04/09/2013 13:05

Ugh - wrong person! I really need to wake up this morning! Sorry rock the doppler comment was addressed to you and not total obviously!

Well in the spirit of posifrickentivity, and trying to to whinge so much, Ive just been to Mothercare!
DD14 and I were test driving prams! Grin
I was very bad, tempted fate and bought the cutest little sleepsuit/vest/bib combo with a "Guess How Much I Love You?" theme! Its my favourite childrens book EVER!
Im going to put it in the wardrobe and not buy ANYTHING else for at least 3 months! Blush

Rockchick1984 · 04/09/2013 14:20

Yay Saggy! I went pram shopping last week, made it all feel real! What sort do u think you will go for?

Typically, I decided to leave a message for the midwife, I then tried again and think I heard the heartbeat (for all of 10 seconds til little Pebble moved again). Am still going to express my concerns, although pretty sure they won't do anything but sometimes its nice to be told to stop worrying by a professional :)

DragonyOldClothCatPuss · 04/09/2013 14:43
Grin I was quite sold on the cheap and cheerful Mothercare Expedior, until DD got me to push a Bugaboo Chameleon! OMG it was SOOOOO smooth! Grin Im a bit of a pram fetishist, Ive had 8 altogether, and also love the Stokke Xplory. but its WAAY to expensive, so Im going to find a Bugaboo on Ebay and compromise! Grin What did you get?
WhatWillSantaBring · 04/09/2013 15:08

On the risk of miscarriage from an amnio, according to my fab new book (Expecting Better by Emily Oster) the risks are based on studies done ages ago, and that 1:100 risk is way too high. If I can dig out the more up to date stats tonight, I will repost. From what I understand also, the risk you're given based on the NT/bloods test is not a real, individual risk for you, as its calculated using Bayes theroem (which I don't understand). So the numbers are plucked out of (almost) nowhere. However, its obviously a very personal choice.

rock - don't worry about the bump not growing. Mine hardly changed at all between 12 weeks and 20 weeks (I just looked fat) and then its suddenly popped into an actual bump in the past three weeks.

Is it nearly hometime yet???

kat are you having the harmony test done at the Fetal Medicine Centre? That's where I had mine and it cost £180 for everything that you mentioned but it was a special offer as they were trying to gather some data - maybe it's not on anymore?

My NHS 12-week scan was the very next day after the one at FMC - I still went and it was great to have a scan without any stress or worry. I would go...you're entitled to it, you get to see the baby one more time and the NHS can have their date and all the info I want (I don't see why they would not accept the private scan but you never know)

ThePFJ · 04/09/2013 15:41

Thanks so much for the warm welcome all.....

I am still pregnant today... and very thankful for it. My uterus is doing stretch exercises at the moment.... and every time I feel it I wonder is it the start of period pains? But I know from 8 losses that unless the pain is intense and doesn't stop, or I bleed more than a few spots that this is the only time to be worried. Midwife has given me a number to call the midwife team to chat on weekdays should I have any concerns, and I may use it if I have 'one of those days' ....

To rock if you are worried I would probably call the doctors surgery/midwife and insist on a scan... to put your mind at rest....and then try to relax..... I can't imagine how you must feel right now - but all is going to be well....

Tomkat sounds like you are at the same stage as me - symptoms will come and go at this stage, my boobs only hurt/sore sometimes.. and I try to be thankful for it. I used to poke my boobs to see if I was still pregnant - I used to worry so much... but 10 pregnancies (including this one) have taught me that each pg has totally different symptoms, and they do come and go. Promise.

Just got my ds's haircut ready for school tomorrow - he looks fab....
Feeling tired and sick today...... My head aches... Narghhhhh etc. etc.

1/2 an aspirin a day is GOING to make this one work. Mantra mantra mantra......... :) Hugs to you all...... xxxxxx

Tomkat79 · 04/09/2013 15:50

Aww pfj thanks for the reassurance. I poke mine so much I think I make them hurt! Hahaha. My uterus keeps pinging too. Funny feelings. Yes we are very close, due 9th may.

Have totally forgotten to get my DS hair cut. He looks like he's been dragged through a hedge backwards, he says he likes it that way. Funny that, lazy little bugger.

Am sorting like crazy here...def hormonal. I'm supposed to be making more storage space. So far I have taken the solid doors off a unit that was hiding a load of shit and have decided it looks better open. Oops x

ThePFJ · 04/09/2013 16:08

Tomkat I like that... 'pinging'. My uterus is definately doing a lot of pinging. Grin
All this pinging has me half worried and half pleased... pleased because I know things are still really happening down there.. you know? If all was quiet I think I would freak out more. A lot more.

My DS said he wanted to look more like a boy this year, having previously had longish locks of curly hair.... shame they are gone, but I have to say this new short hair look really suits him.... (mourns the hair on the salon floor)

Also I think my cats know I am pg... one always guards the door now while one lies on me protectively... its sooooo sweet... 'sniff' I love my cats.... xxx

Pentagon · 04/09/2013 16:09

kat I thought the special offer may be over...Shame, still £400 isn't too bad! Yes there was a big difference in scan quality, it lasted a lot longer than the NHS one and everything was explained to me. So it's definitely worth the money!

Oh I see why you're concerned...well, some ladies are scanned once a month due to medical reasons and in some other countries women have a scan every couple of weeks (especially in the first trimester)...I don't think scans can cause damage but then again I haven't researched it, maybe your sister has a point...

Pixielady83 · 04/09/2013 16:59

welcome and congrats pfj hope all goes smoothly for you Smile

rock this is why I've been too scared to get my Doppler out. I got a clear hb before 12wk scan but scared I'll freak if I don't find it again. They do say not to try until 18 wks on the package after all and baby could be well tucked away. I'm similar dates to you and just fat, no bump yet. I thought it would get easier to believe after 12wks but it really isn't is it. Can't wait for kicks.

saggy yes to bugaboo chameleons! with DD we were totally not going to spend a silly amount of money, were horrified by how expensive they were, then tested one and it was just SO good! It was my only extravagant purchase but we used it everyday for 2yrs while friends went through several pushchairs and I can't wait to get it out again Grin preferably with either pink or blue new covers as you can replace them Grin

Tomkat79 · 04/09/2013 17:00

pfj I splashed out on a sphynx kitten after MC in may, he was my newborn replacement and continues to act like a baby. I love him lots even though he's a total spanner!

My DS also used to have curly hair...lovely long blonde curls. And then one day my ex MIL cut them off and gave them to me in an envelope. I was mortified Angry

I'm sure USS are perfectly safe, not like an X-ray or ct scan x

ThePFJ · 04/09/2013 17:30

awwww Tomkat kittens are definately the answer.... having mad young cats about the house is a brilliant distraction to all woes and worries. Your Sphynx sounds hilarious :) I have 3 young Abyssinian crosses, and an older fluffy russian blue... all rescue cats.. all mental... love em :)

Your MIL cut off DS's curls.... o.O I would be more than mortified...... I'd have to kill her!! Wow...... what are they like??!

Still pregnant..... (pokes tummy) ..... yup..... (grins happily)
(I am sure this mad excitement will wear off soon when I can't stop throwing up and my feet are the size of a bloated hippos!)

TeaAndANatter · 04/09/2013 18:37

Welcome PJF, and sorry for your past losses.

Tomkat, our 14 year old cat had to be put down last week, so now we're cat shopping again (is that the right phrase?!). He had really needed to be 'done' just after I MC'd, but I couldn't bear it (is that really wrong?), so he held out til recently, and we felt it was time. Bring on the new cat! I like British Shorthairs, but tend to get moggies that look a bit like them.

RainbowConnections · 04/09/2013 18:45

Kat, there was some talk on use of ultrasounds on womans hour a while ago. I recall some medical opinion sounding concerned about the private scan culture and making the point that they should be for medical purposes only, but, even when pushed, couldnt give a reason or suggestion they were harmful. This is just from memory though. I had a quick look and think it was this one but havent listened again. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01sjn55 24th May if link hasnt worked.

Tomkat79 · 04/09/2013 18:52

No tea that is definitely not wrong. Jeez, the pain of one loss is more than enough without doubling it! 14 is a great age though, bless him. A friend of mine breeds Sphynx's and I went to see them and kinda just came home with him. DH wasn't too sure at first but as I look over to my right he's on his lap so they have def bonded now. He thinks he's demanding, I told him good prep for a baby ;-)

pfj can't believe you have 4 cats! Mad house lol.

Yeah I remember being extremely angry with her after chopping off his curls. About 2 weeks later she was sectioned though. Crazy ol bat. My DS calls her nutty nanny Grin

kjh5 · 04/09/2013 19:46

I love that there are a lot of batshit crazy cat ladies among us! After years of me saying I wanted a cat DH gave me a kitten IOU for my 30th birthday. After the MC I was so devastated he insisted we stop putting it off and get one right away. Scrabble was duly purchased in July - he's a long-haired moggy and even although he scratches the hell out of both of us - we adore him! DH won't admit he is now a at person :) seeing his lovely tiny fluffy purring face def made me want to get out of bed in the mornings following MC. Although one kitten is definitely a handful! I can't imagine having four cats pfj !!

Angloamerican · 04/09/2013 20:39

I was glad to see this thread. I am 5w5d and nervous as anything. This is my 7th pregnancy. I have 2 living children. 2 MC, 1 ectopic and a DD who died in utero at 17w due to multicystic kidneys. Reading this back, I feel as though I am introducing myself at an AA meeting!

First ultrasound is next week. No nausea yet, which worries me (even though it's so early). In the meantime only DH, my therapist and my acupuncturist know. And the mumsnetters reading this...! Taking my folic acid, metformin (PCOS), baby aspirin and acupuncture. One day at a time...

Angloamerican · 04/09/2013 20:42

ThePFJ Congratulations! What a journey you've had. Praying that all goes well for you.
