Tea what a douche that Dr sounds Angry Glad you've got the private scan booked.

Total so sorry you have more stress. I don't know anything about the tests really but know my one friend who had a high score (not sure if that's the right terminology, sorry) had a perfect baby despite all her worries. I really hope things are ok and as others have said we are here to hold your hand and help you get through this xx

Anda I can't see the pic boo but just hearing you describe the two of them together made my heart melt a little. There's just something about twins, it is very special to have a best friend from birth Smile hope you get out soon, hospitals are the direst of places when you are tired and emotional Sad

Rockchick1984 · 03/09/2013 22:12

Anda they are so beautiful, congratulations again! Anyone struggling to load the pics - it wouldn't open first time for me so I hit refresh and it worked fine.

Total try to remember that although it sounds like high odds, 1 in 150 is when it becomes low chance so you're closer to that than to being very high chance. Are you going to have additional testing?

Tea I agree, I'd complain about that dr, he sounds insane! Although I'd quite happily go along with Gardens dr suggesting that women never have to work when bleeding Grin 4 days off a month (paid, obviously) sounds genius!!

TotalShock · 03/09/2013 22:13

Thank you for the hand holding. Sorry haven't been back sooner to thank you all.

They said I can go for an amnio next week but Im worried because I don't know enough. I have heard of the harmony test but what is the difference in accuracy between the two? The amnio results can be back in 2 days but believe the harmony is 2 weeks and cost around £600

Forester that's a massive differnce in results. I'm just not sure what to do for the best

Thank you all x

Rockchick1984 · 03/09/2013 22:18

Total I think you need to know what action you would take if you found out there was something wrong with the baby before you can decide what to do. Amnio carries a slight risk of miscarriage (I think its 1%) however it will give you 100% accurate result. Harmony has no risk attached but is not as accurate (90-odd% accurate though). I think other that Down's syndrome the other problems can be diagnosed at the 20 week scan.

BumpKitty · 03/09/2013 22:23

total i think you can ask what the mc rate after amino or cvs is at your particular hospital and even for a specific doctor. If you google the foetal medical clinic their website says the Harmony test is £400. Or depending on how many weeks you are you could get a more detailed ultrasound scan which would calculate our risk again. Sorry this is a bit jumbled. X

BumpKitty · 03/09/2013 22:24

*Your risk

Chocolateteabag · 03/09/2013 22:58

Sorry you are going through this Total, can't add anything in terms of advice, but thinking of you

Santa - if your sinuses continue to be bad - I really recommend getting this sinus rinse and saline sachet set. It's totally amazing! You are flushing out the front sinus, it's pretty yucky but I've not had to have AB's for sinusitis since I started using it whenever I've started to get the thick head feeling.

Stupidly tried to push open a heavy door on way out of work today. Felt my pubic bones grinding together and nearly burst in to tears it was so sore. Have been sitting with hot bottle against my bits all night. So so stupid don't use feet when hands will do I have a physio appt on Thursday so will see what she suggests there can imagine not much

MarthasHarbour · 03/09/2013 23:03

ooo lots to catch up on, i have only been gone a day and a half! DS is starting school on Thursday so i have a manic 4yo demanding to know every half an hour when he can go to school Confused Grin

excellent scan news for kat and motor - and an extra fist bump to motor for sharing exquisite musical taste Smile

anda what absolutely beautiful girls, and giving eachother a scrunchy hug too

kjh glad to hear that you got to hear a heartbeat and you can relax now Smile

total another hand to hold here, i know little (nothing) about NT results but fingers crossed all will be well.

tea your GP is a twat, for one he CANNOT impose any religious views or even express them, and another he is medically incompetent. I would speak to the Practice Manager and explain what happened (they wont want a formal complaint on their books) and demand another GP throw into the conversation that he is compromising patient safety by dating you four weeks behind (sounds heavy handed but - well he could be Hmm)

Well my spotting has calmed right down, i am still getting a little bit of watery CM but nothing to worry about. Today i am still pregnant..

MarthasHarbour · 03/09/2013 23:06

Mind you - i have a cheek telling you off chocolate - DH came home and caught me moving a concrete slab tonight - ohmygod the bollocking i got! Grin

impatientlywaiting · 03/09/2013 23:50

Anda those babies are divine!! Huge congratulations on your beautiful babies.

ThePFJ · 03/09/2013 23:52

Hi everyone....

Can I tell you about myself?
Hope thats ok....

I have a beautiful little boy who is 5 years old... pg went fine... then
a few years ago I had an ectopic... my right tube was removed in emergency surgery... and then 7 mc's .... and then for 2 years I was unabled to get pg at all!!

After investigation by specialists it is inconclusive, but one test did prove positive for clotting...... and my health is in a better place now...

And today I finally got the BFP I have been waiting for.....!!!!
I have had the biggest grin on my face EVER today - I just know this is the one... so fingers crossed for a 12th of May dd....
so until I see the midwife and insist on an early scan and all the goodies she can sort out, I am taking half an aspirin in the mornings..

So today I am Pregnant, and I am sooooo soooo happy! Hugs to all you girls out there! xxxxxxxxxx

GardenWorm · 04/09/2013 06:05

WOW Pfj, massive massive congratulations on your BFP and welcome. No wonder you have a Grin

So my ma n pa are visiting to look after DD as we are now childminderless. We appear to have a climber on our hands - yesterday morning my mum found her on top of the changing unit 'getting myself dressed' with various items of clothing out of the drawers...how do I stop climbing????? (Or should I just accept it and turn her bedroom into a monkey enclosure?)!

pumpkinsweetie · 04/09/2013 07:29

Congratulations & welcome pdf Thanks!!! Smile

Anda what beautiful babies, bet you are so proudSmile, hope you and your girls can go home soon. Hopefully not long now xx

22+3 weeks hereSmile, not long until my next milestone (24wks) looking forward to getting there. Looking forward to a much earned quiet cuppa tomorrow when my dds go back to school, although i will miss them & the chaos lolGrin
The summer hols have been brill!

TeaAndANatter · 04/09/2013 07:31

Love the epithets addressed to my GP, 'knobjockey' being about the rudest thing ever Grin. Must say in his defence that he was the kindest medic professional after the MC, everyone else acted like, ffs, it was only 6 weeks. Although he brought God into it then too, and hugged me (unwanted medical touching - eww), he was clearly trying to be very kind then. he's just a bit uneducated, clearly!

Tomkat79 · 04/09/2013 09:19

Oh wow pfj no wonder you're smiling. Huge congratulations and hope the next 9 months is uneventful!

I work with doctors tea, it's made me cynical. Although fortunately my GP is lovely and restores my faith a little!

Rockchick1984 · 04/09/2013 09:25

Congratulations PJF!

Garden my DS is a climber, we just accepted it and attached everything we could to the walls!

WhatWillSantaBring · 04/09/2013 09:48

Congrats pfj - what a rollercoaster of emotions you've been on in the past three years. Wishing a really boring, dull and uneventful pg here.

tea - is your GP 87? He sounds like one of those really old fashioned ones, who is probably marvellous in many many ways but cannot accept educated or medically savvy patients. Dr Google may be a very dangerous invention, but he is also quite useful in many ways.

Aren't anda's babies lovely. I want one!!! (Not one of hers, obv, but one of my own. Four months is sooooooooo long away.).

I was watching midwives last night and it got me all weepy, particularly that poor lass who'd been whipped up for an emergency c-section at 30 weeks. Although 24 weeks (this Sunday) is one of my milestones, I'm not able to relax till 28 weeks, when you know they've got a really good chance. (And properly relax at 32 weeks when you know their chances now are as good as full term - god bless modern science!). I met a lady once who was in her nineties. She'd been born at about 26 weeks, and the doctor had thrown her on the bed saying this ones a gonna. Amazing. Makes me feel sooooooo lucky to be having a child now, and not 150 years ago.

Thanks for the saline tip chocolateteabag - i can breathe today, which is a massive improvement, but oh, the pain in my sinuses still Sad

WhatWillSantaBring · 04/09/2013 10:07

*gonner. [Actually have no idea how to spell that expression!]

Pentagon · 04/09/2013 10:24

anda so good to hear from you! Your girls are gorgeous, I'm so glad you've been reunited! Sorry to hear you're still in hospital, I hope the blood pressure goes down soon and you can all go home. It shouldn't be long, just hang on in there!

pfj welcome and congratulations on your BFP! You've had quite a journey to get here, I hope everything goes well this time!!

total I'm so sorry you have this stress to deal with...I know quite a bit about NT results because my sister-in-law had a baby with downs syndrome a year and a half ago (her result wasn't that bad - 1:260 if I remember well - she was just really unlucky and it wasn't discovered till she gave birth...it was an immense shock, needless to say). Because of that I had the harmony test done (99% accuracy apparently) when I was 10 weeks at the Fetal Medicine Centre - there was a special offer on and it was £180. If you were to do it now (i.e. at after 10 weeks), it would cost you £400 at the FMC, bump is right, and it's a simple blood test carrying no risks. Amnio is 100% accurate but it carries a very small risk of miscarriage. Harmony test results take 2 weeks and amnio is a couple of days but not so sure about the latter! I know a handful of people who had worrying combined test results and their baby was fine, some of them had amnio and everything turned out well. Personally I don't know anyone who miscarried as a result of amnio. Anyway, what you need to ask yourself is

  1. would you continue with the pregnancy if the harmony test or amnio indicated a problem?
  2. most importantly and irrespective of how you would proceed, would you like to know for sure? Some people can't bear having this stress for the rest of the pregnancy and would like to find out in order to either calm down with a good result or be prepared for the outcome with a bad result

In all probability, your baby is fine - a friend of mine had the same combined test result as you (1:95) but had had the harmony at 10 weeks which showed 1:10,000. She didn't have any further investigations as she felt confident in the Harmony test. For the record, the Harmony test gives you either a positive (1:2) or a negative (1:10,000) so the risk ratio isn't comparable with that of the combined test.

Good luck, let us know what you decide to do!

Tomkat79 · 04/09/2013 11:00

Am I allowed to add a little 'freak out' to this thread?! Ffs I am doing my own head in. Only had a BFP for a week and until yesterday had sore boobs and mild nausea. Today I feel fine. So am obviously thinking the worst which is ridiculous I know. Symptoms do come and go right?! How on earth I'm gonna get through to 12 weeks I don't know. How I miss that first pregnancy innocence Envy

DragonyOldClothCatPuss · 04/09/2013 11:26

Dear pregnancy Gods...
Im really greatful for being pregnant, but im relly fed of of feeeling like poo now! Its been 13 weeks, could I please have a break from feeling absolute shite now? If you could exchange the nausea, faintness and being shattered all the time for some nice, reassuring early movement, that would be really nice.
God bless everyone on this thread,
Amen,
Saggy!

Tomkat79 · 04/09/2013 11:47

Lol old dragony one. Feel free to pass all your fatigue, faintness and nausea onto me. Can't believe you're 13 weeks already.

IBelieveInPink · 04/09/2013 11:52

Oh saggy I know exactly how you feel! I am still trying not to moan about things, because I really am very grateful for baby.
But this week, I'm tired. And achy. There, I said it. And the other day she spent ALL DAY kicking me in the ribs. Today, she didnt kick me all morning (until now! :) ) so was mid freak out and promising never to moan again.

This doesn't get easier does it!!

Rockchick1984 · 04/09/2013 11:59

I'm also having a bit of a freak out today. Am now 14+3, symptoms other than tiredness have gone pretty much entirely, my developing bump hasn't grown in about 2 weeks (although I know my bloating has gone away in that time) and although last week I found the heartbeat (only once) on the Doppler, I've not found it since. Everyone on the March thread seems to be finding the heartbeat fairly easily now Sad

2 weeks today til next midwife appointment, struggling to see how I will cope!

Tomkat79 · 04/09/2013 12:13

Rock I'm sure it's there, even midwifes have trouble finding the heart beat sometimes. Have you seen the 'find your baby's heartbeat' app? Was advertised on my fb! X
