Pixie we tented it and just tried to wear DD out during the day, she went to bed about 9? Luckily it was dark by then and she got to use her torch which she thought was amazing. I was worried about her sleeping but she was fine and slept through until her usual wake up time. Sorry, no tips, guess we were just lucky! Janie do it! Grin

GardenWorm · 25/08/2013 20:44

Ha ha : gender reveal party!!!!! Can you 'reveal' your own gender??!!!

BlackholesAndRevelations · 25/08/2013 20:47

Today would have been lost baby's edd- feel like I should be having a baby now and NOT going back to work next week Sad however... I'm comforting myself with the fact that I'm bloody lucky to be pg again now, and that I've started getting to know this little one and he/she is meant to be. Hope all goes well between now and december though.

BlackholesAndRevelations · 25/08/2013 20:50

Ps hate baby showers but had to have one at work (they gave me no choice!) for dc1. The very very worst thing? They made me write a list so people could tick off what they'd bought Blush

I was overwhelmed by the generosity but hated being centre of attention whilst opening all those presents! Argh!

shellsocks · 25/08/2013 20:56

It's really tough blackholes but you're right, think of the positives you are PG now. Have an early night then it will be tomorrow and just another day x

Lol saggy Grin

Hey anda how you feeling today?

So I've started my shopping list for birth/new baby...can anyone think of anything I've missed? We have a lot of stuff from DS obviously so dont need a lot of the big things Smile

Moses basket mattress
car seat&isofix
white blanket
white sleep suits&vests
maternity pads
breast pads
lanisoh
Present from baby to DS
Tankini
iPad SIM
Few formula cartons
nappies
wipes

BlackholesAndRevelations · 25/08/2013 21:02

Thanks shell Flowers x

Looks like a good list! Do you need to buy muslin cloths? I binned all mine from other dc, or used them as floor cloths!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 25/08/2013 21:41

Help! I cant stop eating prawns! I MUST have prawn cocktail! Confused

Rockchick1984 · 25/08/2013 21:44

I had a baby shower with DS. Was a surprise organised by DH and a few friends - ridiculous amounts of cake, non-alcoholic cocktails, a couple of stupid games. Basically just a chance to meet up with all my friends at once, as we hardly ever had the chance to see each other between work and family commitments. Wouldn't have asked for presents, but not complaining that they bought me stuff Grin

Shell you have put formula cartons on your list but no bottles... If you're planning to breastfeed maybe get some of the pre-prepared glass bottles of formula if you want to have some in just in case, but bear in mind that having them there may make it more tempting to use them bitter voice of experience

shellsocks · 25/08/2013 21:44

Yes muslins are a must, good call Smile
Mine are all blue so must get some white ones just in case I'm wrong and it's a girl!

Mmm I had a lobster cocktail the other day, yum yumGrin

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 25/08/2013 22:12

Shell, my advice to anyone having a baby is to buy EVERYTHING you can find in terms of problem solving, trouble shooting.
Nipple cream
Arnica
breast shields
cold/heat pads
Infacol
gripe water
Calpol
thermometer
nappy rash cream...
EVERYTHING! Right through to teething!
The chances are you will use each and every one, and in those early weeks, when everything is a blur, you will probably discover you need them at 3AM or on Sunday evening.
Add a large chocolate bar, a miniature of brandy and some ear plugs, and you'll have everything to hand, as and when you need it! Grin

Shell; hat? Also your fave snack and drink in case you can't escape as soon as you'd like or get munchies!

andadietcoke · 25/08/2013 22:43

blackholes it's funny, but I calmed down a little after mine had passed at the beginning of July. I thought it was going to be awful, but the day went quickly, and I kept busy. Hope you've got through today unscathed...

shell am okay - had period type cramps and ended up ringing triage but they faded with paracetamol. Tomorrow I have an appt at the ante natal day unit at 10.30, so always good for a bit of reassurance!

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 25/08/2013 23:00

shell my friend had sent me her list and from memory it included:
lip balm
big black throw-out-able primark knickers
tshirt or button front nightie (for giving birth in)
magicool spray (gets really hot in the hospital)
lucozade
biscuits for middle of the night munchies
bottles of water

kat - i was totally addicted to super sour sweets - tangfastics are the haribo ones...although i think i'm now immune to their sourness now boohoo

Rockchick1984 · 25/08/2013 23:03

Janie chewits extreme (I think they are called) are the only sour sweets I'm not immune to, I love sour sweeties!!

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 25/08/2013 23:13

oooh rock i'm so going on a hunt for those tomorrow! i even tried eating 2 tangfastics at once to up the sour levels but to no avail!

shellsocks · 25/08/2013 23:21

Thanks everyone Smile

I've already got bottles, steriliser etc. so just gonna get some emergency cartons...DS had some formula before my milk came in so want some just in case Smile YY to arnica and I better get some shields in too good thinking Smile My mum has knitting three little sets, including hats already so for knows how many we'll have before the birth Grin

anda it's so good that you are being seen daily, must be so reassuring Smile

shellsocks · 25/08/2013 23:23

janie ill prob ask for that list again in a month or so when im doing the hospital bag list, can only have one list on the go my tiny baby brain can't do two at once WinkGrin

Bambamb · 26/08/2013 08:02

Hi, I'm new but just wanted to say Hi. I'm PG after 2 miscarriages (also have one DC aged 4). I was helpfully referred over here after a thread about how anxious I am and I'm amazed to discover that I'm not the only person who has developed wierd superstitious type behaviour in order to keep this pregnancy safe.
My main ones are: not epilating my legs (very surprised to see that one is actually quite common! ), not carrying my mobile phone anywhere near my tummy, and not eating meat for fear of karma.
So glad to see so many having positive outcome after MC. I am 28 weeks now and feel slightly mental from the stress but it's nice to know I'm not alone.
I wish you all the best. Xx

BumpKitty · 26/08/2013 08:48

Just a couple of things to add to hospital lists - I was advised to take pillows as the hospital never has enough and straws for sipping water in between doing gas and air - I think they were the most useful things. I wish I had had another nightie as I only took one for giving birth in then I had to have a catheter afterwards so I was just in my pj top and a nightie would be good for anyone having a cs as you wouldn't want waistbands on you maybe? Sorry for terrible grammar.

Chocolateteabag · 26/08/2013 08:54

Hi bambamb - congratulations on your BFP - glad you've found us. Please do stay if you want to!

Re Babyshowers - I had a little one for DS and went to my friends. But we bought presents for the mum. The baby gets theirs when they arrive.
So I gave/was given nipple cream, breast pads, maternity pads (oh god how many do you need!), chocolate, nice smellies etc

Shopping list wise - yes get everything you might need in an emergency. Colief
Infacol
Calpol and baby ibuprofen (but might be after3months)
Dosing syringes if not provided (sell them over the counter in most pharmacists)
Dosing dummy (if you can find one)
Dummies (I always thought they were chavvy per pg, could not have survived without them with DS!) have them just in case!
Gripe water
Teething powder
Teething gel
Nipple cream
Vagisil (I am a broken record on this but it's amazing stuff)
Baby snot sucker thing
Saline drops (for small snotty noses)

BumpKitty · 26/08/2013 08:57

Hi bambam welcome to the thread, there are a few of us around 28 weeks :) your mobile phone superstition has reminded me of one of mine - if I need to use the microwave I lean over and press the button then quickly dart away so the rays don't get the baby Blush

BlackholesAndRevelations · 26/08/2013 09:01

Bump- I do the same with the microwave!!

Welcome bambam- congratulations! You're certainly in good company here Flowers

BlackholesAndRevelations · 26/08/2013 09:03

I'm assuming shell has most things from dc but I've just remembered: cereal bars for bedside cabinet and night feeds!! How hungry do you get in the wee hours feeding?! It's all coming back to me! Grin
