Hi everyone,

This thread is for all you incessant worriers out there, not necessarily limited to IVF-ers, although I get the feeling the people who have had trouble TTC are more prone to worrying than others!

shazza i am feeling fairly calm which also scares me but think 12 weeks will be the big turning point mentally. a scan where i can see something baby like and the heartbeat still going. For now I will try to enjoy being pregnant - because for today I am Grin.

Great news about the birthing centre gin. We have a new one near here and some people said you can't use it if you are an ivf or icsi pregnancy. I will be pushing for it.

motor so pleased you heard the heartbeat and all was good.

buzzy after everyone talking about these great bras i looked them up (even if just for comfy home use). I'm off the blooming scale Angry. Will have to find an alternative.

Unfortunately I am up north of the border so London meet ups not easy at short notice. We do come down to visit friends occasionally so will see if anyone's available next time we head south.

Buzzybee123 · 03/10/2013 20:19

motor I am sure I should know more about what is going on in pregnancy but don't, so keep up with education :)

I don't like lying on my belly in general, I was sitting when I first felt her move, or when I'm on my back, I felt the odd movement but wasn't sure if it was wind, it was around 21 weeks when I could feel her more, I would like to feel her move more to stop myself thinking the worst.

I work 8-4 but i'm still exhausted

foody that's absolutely marvellous and excellent news.

OnionRing · 03/10/2013 21:21

buzzy I'm just feeling pathetic at the moment. Things will improve once she grows a bit more.

madness whereabouts are you up north?

Dildals · 03/10/2013 22:14

onion hang in there lady, it's easy to lose perspective when in the eye of the emotional storm. Babies are pretty sturdy, they will gain weight, and if they don't for a bit, they're still going to be OK. She will sleep in her own cot eventually, gain weight and perhaps even take a bottle, although it may be a merlot.

Dildals · 03/10/2013 23:00

Can I ask a potentially embarrassing question? How do you clean a baby girls bits? I have been doing proper wiping, front to back, and bathing, but should do more, ie get a q-tip to clean her labia? Sorry if TMI but I don't want her to catch a UTI or get dirty.

OnionRing · 04/10/2013 01:22

Dildals thanks, it's me that needs a drink. She's got a fever again, I bet her ears are still bad. I've dosed her with calpol and it's come down below 38 now but I'll be up all night now fretting over her and back to the GP in the morning. I hate autumn for all the illnesses that suddenly appear.

Not embarrassing at all. Baby girls bits are supposed to be pretty much ok to be left alone, but I know what you mean and they do get poo there which can't be hygienic. I wouldn't use a q tip though. What I do is use a very wet piece of cotton wool or wet a baby wipe and very gently wipe from front to back between her labia until the wipe is clean (usually no more than two wipes). I do this to get rid of old Sudocreme too if she's had a bit of redness or a rash. I don't do it during ordinary nappy changes but when I'm top and tailing her properly with water.

keepitgoing · 04/10/2013 08:57

gin i feel your pain on the pissing - it's such a tiny test tube and i can't see anything down there any more. Has noone thought this through? I like shazza's paper idea. So pleased you can still have the water birth. I'm really keen on that too, but there's only 2 pools at my hosp, so i'm trying to expect i won't get it, then would be happy if it was free. Shame we can't book in!

Oh the other day i had just weed some in the pot, some on my hand, the usual, and was starting the process of cleaning up... Then by mistake pulled the red emergency cord, and the GP receptionist came running to help. So there I am, wee pot in hand, trousers on the floor, having to shout through the door to the whole waiting room her that i was fine and where was the cancel button. Oh god. So i was rather flustered by the time i had my BP reading done by the MW - surprised it was normal (ish)... Grin

motor yes, i def only first felt it when lying down. Even now Kip goes mental when i lie on my back. I never know if that means he likes things, or hates them. Like when we went to a concert last night. Loadsa kicks - good or bad?! Saying 'oh yeah' and dancing, or saying 'it's too loud mummy, take me home'

NCT gave us this sheet of questions where you had to mark along the scale things like 'i will pick my baby up whenever he cries vs I will let me baby cry sometimes', and 'i will feed on demand vs i will have a set routine'. We were not too different, and where we were it was because we'd been thinking of different ages of babies. Win!

madness i think i relaxed after 12 weeks, and then i'd say i enjoyed from about 16. It annoys me that some areas they terat ivf pregnancies as different. I would definitely push for what you want, and keep asking questions re evidence and the like if they try and give you some bullshit. The fact that many areas don't distinguish shows that once you're preggers it's the same really. Oh, i am a 30F, and obv expecting to go up towards the end of pregnancy. The stretchy bras fit me ok at the moment, i got a small. They're not very tailored which is why they are good i think.

oh foody i'm so pleased to see you back here!! What's the secret then for your super quick diffedness this time round?! Congratulations!! [grin[ Grin

ExpatAl · 04/10/2013 09:25

How do you girls with baby post so frequently? Am I just a really crap time manager?

Foody, brilliant news!! Many heartfelt congratulations to you.

OnionRing · 04/10/2013 09:36

Because I spend hours breastfeeding, al. Hope things are going well though.

That's a good sign that you'll be consistent parents keep. We are rather different in that I'm too soft apparently. Gah!

ExpatAl · 04/10/2013 10:11

Hi onion. So do I! I guess you're better at one handed bf than me.

I can't find the YW on Facebook. Am I doing sth wrong?

Dildals · 04/10/2013 10:37

Hi Expat, I have made it a closed or a secret group, so if you PM me your email address I can invite you!

I think Bella is relatively well behaved in the sense that her routine is fairly predictable and I generally know why she cries so I can resolve it. I have become a bit stricter (well, since last night) in putting her down in her cot rather than letting her sleep on me hoping to avoid ringlet scenario!

ThatWayMadnessLies · 04/10/2013 10:49

Ok. Tiredness has struck. I am struggling not to fall asleep on my desk......

ExpatAl · 04/10/2013 11:12

Thanks Dildals, will do that. In meantime have put a few photos on my profile.

ExpatAl · 04/10/2013 11:20

Yes I too logged ringlet scenario and put mini al down. She gurgles and chats quite happily to herself. I had no idea that babies are so loud!

fairypangolin · 04/10/2013 11:37

Hi all - wow you've been chatty over last two days. Apols in advance if I miss anyone.

foody hooray on the BFP! early days as you say but still very much worth celebrating.

madness like others have said, different areas treat IVF/ICSI differently. I am in Cambridge and it's not considered in itself a risk factor here. I think there is a slightly heightened risk of miscarriage but that should make no difference by the time you give birth obviously. So I would press if anyone tries to say that should keep you out of the MLU or a birth pool.

gin v glad to hear that your Strep B won't keep you from the birth experience you want, although as you say it is all up to chance anyway.

motor fluttering and popping is how I first felt the baby so that could well be it.

keep I have accidentally pulled the red cord in my GP surgery toilet too. They had it right next to the door where you normally find a light fixture pull! I was really embarrassed. But if it's any consolation, urine is sterile when it leaves your bladder and only picks up bacteria if you have it in your urethra (eg a UTI). Although I do find it icky when I wee on my hand of course. At my surgery there are nice big cups to go in and then decant into the little vial for testing. I don't find it hard to reach but it probably depends on how you are proportioned, eg if you are short waisted like I am it is easier.

dildals luckily you have a few years before having to make a decision about Bella and school - although I would be already thinking about that myself! I was wondering if you've been able to get any exercise over the past few months, just because you were so athletic before. Now I'm not working I've been going for a few sedate swims and was just thinking this morning how much I am looking forward to being able to go for a run one day again, maybe by Xmas!

shazza I think you are supposed to use a new liner each time you use the pool so that it is clean when you are actually in it in labour. I'm not planning to go for a trial run as trying to keep DS out of it would be too much effort and generally I can't be arsed to inflate, fill and empty it.

AFM, my midwife appointment was fine. Baby is still head down and she is lying along my left side, which apparently is better than the other. I had a health visitor ring me this morning and propose she come by next week before the baby comes. Not quite sure why but I thought it would be rude to say no.

fairypangolin · 04/10/2013 11:39

expat Hi there - love the photos! Such a cutie!

keepitgoing · 04/10/2013 11:41

expat she's so scrumptious!

ExpatAl · 04/10/2013 12:27

Thanks guys. Obviously I'm a tad biased. When I was in hospital I felt vaguely embarrassed at having a baby so much lovelier than the others Wink

ExpatAl · 04/10/2013 12:28

Fairy you're due now? How are you feeling? Any twinges?

fairypangolin · 04/10/2013 12:48

expat to be honest I feel the same as I did a few weeks ago, although I am retaining a lot of water at the moment. But I would rather not have her at least until end of next week anyway because I need a bit of a rest from finishing work and I still have a lot of things I want to get done at home. If I go overdue though (EDD is 14 Oct) I will start to get a bit antsy I'm sure.

MrsHY1 · 04/10/2013 13:03

Expat your little girl is super cute! x
