Hi everyone,

This thread is for all you incessant worriers out there, not necessarily limited to IVF-ers, although I get the feeling the people who have had trouble TTC are more prone to worrying than others!

dildals You have my complete sympathy! One trick I found helped to settle DS in his moses basket rather than on me was I put a pillowcase that I had been using over his mattress so the basket smelled like me. Worth a try perhaps?

Morning lovely ladies

Just had MW appt. all fine. Heartbeat good and strong 140bpm. So ye olde wives say above 140 is a girl and below 140 is a boy. What about if it IS 140. What sayeth thee then olde wives? Nothing that's what!

Part of me is now hoping for a girl as we may just may have found a name we agree on. It's not my top choice sadly onion Hmm but I like it and most importantly DP hasn't changed his mind 2 days later.

Noks lazy daisy classes sound way more erm... 'Hippie' than NCT! I'm the supplement queen but even I draw the line at that. Glad the Chat went well and DP enjoyed the class. It does make a difference. Once we started hypnobirthing DP got well into it and is enjoying having a role to play. His latest job is checking out that the weight of the pool is going to be ok as we are on the first floor. A nice 'blue' job for him. Oh to have a complete set of knitted yoni warriors. Grin

Onion which co sleeper have you got please? They are my latest obsession. I'm not on Pinterest but might set one up. Can you send me your profile link please? I think that we have similar ideas and taste and id love to be nosy! I'm looking forward already to meeting you one day and learning your great grannies casting on technique.

With all this ikea talk I feel deprived that I'm veggie and have never experienced the relief of the boiled hotdog after the checkout. I've witnessed the ecstasy from the meat eaters in my party and looked on with envy as they ride the waves of pleasure that each bite brings. Grin

shazza the Milton Keynes Ikea has vegetarian hotdogs believe it or not and they are not that bad!

Shazzamattazzerly · 16/09/2013 11:31

Oh dildals part of me sympathises and part of me is glad that you are home and able to experience this with your beautiful dd. it must be quite a shock for her if she had got used to the hospital routine. But a good shock all the same and one that I'm sure will become comforting to both of you soon enough. I hope that she soon gets the hang of feeding. It seems to be a never ending stream of things to learn and worry about.

Good idea re pillow case fairy. I'll remember that.

Shazzamattazzerly · 16/09/2013 11:32

Oo good to know. I wonder if Croydon do?

OnionRing · 16/09/2013 12:20

dildals, you're describing Trenchlet to a T there. I have no solutions, babies naturally want to sleep on or close to their mothers. It depends how tough you can be at sticking it out with getting her into a basket / cot. I prize sleep over all else which I why I've ended up bedsharing. I wouldn't have thought Bella would be as bad though, seeing how she's used to the incubator so maybe once she's used to the change she'll get better. I hope so, but at the same time feeling like a broken woman is pretty normal for the first few weeks. You soon manage to get by on less sleep though.

Ikea boiled hotdogs in their spongey rolls are divine. They shouldn't be but they are. I'm planning my visit tomorrow to coincide with lunchtime and it will be my guilty pleasure.

shazz What is the name?! You have to pm it to me. I'm a bit sad about that but maybe I was living vicariously through you! I've not long started using Pinterest but I'll send you my details.

I don't have an official cosleeper. I have a £70 ikea cot that I turned into a cosleeper. It was very simple, just took the side off, strapped it to our bed and added a couple of L shaped brackets to hold the base at the right height. I can provide proper instructions if you like.

Buzzybee123 · 16/09/2013 12:23

shazza I was at Ikea in Croydon on the weekend, don't remember vege sausages but could just be that I didn't notice them on the menu, what did your chinese predictor say you were having ?? My problem is I see wool and I buy it without actually having a project in mind.

noks I have to say that the lazy daisy thing looked a bit too hippy for me, I cannot believe she is trying to flog placenta tablets Hmm she must be on commision Grin they have a leaflet on it at my hospital, Barry nearly passed out when I mentioned it too him Grin I had to remind him that I was a vego so wouldn't be trying it. Can I ask what pillow you have, I'm a bit confused by all these different ones you can get, glad you have straightened out DP.

dildals Its just that loves you so much she wants to be with you all the time, hopefully she will settle with time

fairy great tip, I shall keep that one in mind

Well I did get a bit more sleep, should I see my GP, I'm back at the hospital next Wednesday so thought I might wait and see what they say

Shazzamattazzerly · 16/09/2013 14:01

Hi buzz the chinese predictor said I'm having a boy. But given the astounding accuracy of it so far I'm not taking that too seriously. The midwife gave a knowing giggle this morning when I mentioned gender and heart rate but if she suspects she didn't let on. Glad you got some more sleep last night. Hope you are feeling less queasy.

Onion I've pm'd you. I feel I've let you down re names.Wink If its any consolation I'm a tinsy bit disappointed too. However shazlett isn't here yet so it could all change. And of course the Chinese predictor might just prove right this time!

I'm struggling with enthusiasm for work today. Just can't be bothered. And I shouldn't complain really given that I got in at 12! On the upside both bosses are at a conference.

I had a lovely visit from some friends yesterday who are firm home birth advocates having had 2. I'm so pleased and reassured cause mostly I seem to hear about 2nd births being home births but not so often first ones. Also the MW was extremely supportive again this morning. So I'm going to put doubts aside now and keep focussing on a successful, calm home birth.

Ps does anyone else watch scandal? It's the only thing I follow on tv and its great. I keep thinking about it and forget that Fitzgerald grant is not the real president!

Shazzamattazzerly · 16/09/2013 14:02

Oh and buzzy ditto with the yarn addiction. eBay is amazing for getting bargains.

Buzzybee123 · 16/09/2013 14:24

onion I'm interested in your co sleeper I did look at bed nests but they were quite expensive, Ikea has such great things, I've already got a list for next time we go Grin

shazza the sickness is getting better, I can't be bothered with work, just keep thinking about how long I have left, I think around 60 Grin

Spot the girl doing no work. Smile

So abit of interneting has turned up the boots parenting club. Are you all members? You get vouchers and a free changing bag apparently. Anyway it's free to join and you also get extra advantage points on baby stuff. All the better for following onion's old tip of using your boots points to 'buy' nice things for yourself. Buy nappies and end up getting something free for yourself. Sounds like a deal!

OnionRing · 16/09/2013 14:40

Ok I'll try to put together a set of instructions as it is v easy to convert one and will save cash.

If you're a veggie surely it is fine to eat your own placenta, if you want to of course! No animal is being harmed etc. Is that not the case?

(Shazz got your pm, I'll reply later!)

Dildals · 16/09/2013 17:00

I did get the bednest (£99 rental for 6 months) but you could also put a cot next to the bed with dropsides or Mothercare does a little crib for co-sleeping for £40. So there are definitely options.

Scandal? Any good? I have become addicted to bad comedy shows while expressing ... Mrs Browns Boys crack me up! I need to find something a bit more respectable. Also really enjoying Badults, Big School and Bad Education for bad jokes.

On buggies. I narrowed it down to the Uppababy Cruz and the ABC Design Cobra. I was after a buggy with a carrycot option because she's so tiny and the option to be parent-facing (good for communication skills). Also I could run with these buggies, which was another 'requirement'. DH then vetoed the Uppababy because he doesn't like to walk around with a coloured pram, I don't know why. The Cobra is black with brown (the Safari colour option). I ordered it (from a shop in Bromley) with quite a good discount (£60 less than in MC or KC) and it is being delivered tomorrow in a one hour delivery slot. Which I think is rather good service! It's quite a new buggy, but it is German made, so hopefully this means BMW quality!

I sold the double buggy to a childminder who lives 400m down the road. It was hard, especially when she said 'so you have twins then?' and I explained the story, but did an expat and her vet, and never got to explain that one twin didn't make it. So she now thinks I have 2 girls in hospital, so that will make an awkward conversation when I bump in to her walking with Bella. Oh well. Thanks to her I now know that the fella who owns the local chippie had prem twins as well (who are doing really well). Random.

Speaking of expat ... Time slips away though with a newborn, it's noon by the time I have showered, and lunchtime disappears altogether. I know now how to lose weight breastfeeding, just no time to actually eat!

Dildals · 16/09/2013 17:02

Another random question. How does one go to the dentist with a newborn in tow? Can I take her and park in the corner somewhere, or do I need to find a sitter?

Shazzamattazzerly · 16/09/2013 18:00

Hi dildals

It must've been so hard to sell the buggy. The abc cobra looks lovely. I didn't even see that one. But then I didn't look at 3 wheelers cause I didn't think id be running. Can't wait to be pushing the babies around dulwich park Smile. Well you will probably be running and I'll be huffing and puffing behind you.

Sounds like you should get hold of a copy of the what mothers do book. I've got a copy but am determined to finish the one I'm reading first. I keep starting new things and not finishing what I'm doing. I think you are doing well to be dressed by lunchtime.

I love scandal. This is series 2 so if you can get hold of series 1 then catch up so that you know what's going on. It has replaced my The Good Wife addiction. It's quite fast moving and I can't always keep up with what they are taking about but I don't worry about that!

Thanks for the cot info. Are you happy with the bed nest?

I need to get some funny DVDs in prep for labour. Recommendations welcome.

Onion thanks for the reply. Does the cot fix to your bed? Our bed has a frame around the mattress so there will be a slight gap. I'll have to come up with a solution to fill it.

Buzzybee123 · 16/09/2013 18:57

thanks dildals the ones I was looking at were around the £200

OP posts:
Buzzybee123 · 16/09/2013 19:00

ooops pressed too soon, that will help us alot with our choice, we haven't really looked at prams yet, it must have been difficult selling the pram and her asking questions

OP posts:
Dildals · 16/09/2013 19:04

shaz why the book? Has it got good tips in it?

The ABC came up because I was searching for parent-facing buggies, there's not too many of them around.

Glad the double buggy is out of the front room though.

OnionRing · 16/09/2013 19:34

dildals, it is a very reassuring book, it will make you feel better about not being able to put them down etc. Take her to the dentist with you and park her in the corner, she'll be fine.

shazz our bed has a wooden frame. We have tied the cot to the frame, moved the cot mattress over so it is flush with ours and filled the subsequent gap at the other side with rolled towels that are hidden under the fitted cot sheet. I'm about to upload a pic of the finished result. It could be easily done with the ikea Gulliver cot (they don't sell the one we have anymore but it's almost the same.). You would need to build it in it's three sided style but raise the mattress to be at the same height as yours. To achieve this use 4 small 'L' shaped brackets screwed directly into the cot sides and then secure the base to them. Then tie the two legs to your bed wherever makes sense. It's honestly very easy. When you convert it back to a normal cot you will end up with four screw holes that shouldn't be there but no other damage.

My Mamas and Papas Sola can be forward or rear facing. I have her facing me at the moment but will turn her round when she is more curious.

OnionRing · 16/09/2013 20:23

I've uploaded a cot pic, I've fixed the cot a bit down our bed as I didn't want to move my bedside cabinet.I sleep a bit further down the bed so that I'm next to her. Ideally you'd fix the cot at the head end and then you'd sleep in your normal place.

Shazzamattazzerly · 16/09/2013 21:56

Thanks Onion. That sounds like a great description. DP is pretty handy so I'm sure he will be able to figure this out. The only problem with us will be size cause the bit of the bedroom that has the bed in it is almost wall to wall bed! We will have to move our side tables to get the cot in. This happens everytime but I can't remember how to view your profile and the pictures. Your name isn't highlighted when I roll over it with the mouse. I went back to try to look at Mariana's profile but that didn't work either. Anyone know how I look at the photographs please?

Dildals I haven't read the book yet but the title is What Mothers Do When It Looks Like Nothing or something like that. I think that it is reassuring for those times when you look at the clock and say 'OMG where has the time gone and what on earth have I been doing?' Just when we feel that we have done nothing all day, we will realise all the things that we have done with the babies and the achievements that we have made. Our NCT teacher recommended it last Saturday as well. I think I've got pushchair envy and I haven't even got mine out of the box yet. Smile

OnionRing · 16/09/2013 22:21

OnionRing · 17/09/2013 06:38

Fixed it!

Shazzamattazzerly · 17/09/2013 09:02

Thanks onion ill look tonight on the computer. I'm so late for a training session that starts now. I waited 20 mins in Brixton for a bus. I'm hoping when I waddle in they won't mind.
