Buzzybee123 · 13/08/2013 19:25

Hi everyone,

This thread is for all you incessant worriers out there, not necessarily limited to IVF-ers, although I get the feeling the people who have had trouble TTC are more prone to worrying than others!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
fairypangolin · 13/09/2013 19:38

buzzy that's fab news on the scan and another girl!!!??? What is going on with this thread? Or did we know yours already? Confused oh and Nacho cheese Doritos are definitely my fave crap snack.

noks DH has pulled that one on me before too. He also used to volunteer to make dinner when I was working late, then tell me that he actually wasn't hungry when I got home, and then show up when I had cooked something in my starved and exhausted state and say, "actually maybe I will have some of that after all". WTFF? He hasn't pulled that while I've been pg though, thank Christ.

mariana DH is a real ale fan as well although he will drink posh lager too. He maintains a polite but derisory silence at my willingness to drink a cold Stella in the summertime.

OnionRing · 13/09/2013 21:34

Does it suit me?

Stella's quite posh. I'll drink any old lager as long as it's cold. Carlsberg is my favourite because I've been to Denmark a few times and find anything Danish is generally good. (See also bacon, pastries, lego and Kirkegaard.)

Noks I hope you got some dinner. Sounds like DP needs a kick up the arse.

Buzzybee123 · 13/09/2013 22:30

ooooh suit you sir Grin onionring I agree about the Danish, its all good especially if it can be eaten

OP posts:
Shazzamattazzerly · 13/09/2013 22:57

I thought we had been infiltrated by a random but then I realised its our lovely Mariana! I do like a Stella I have to say. Nice and cold from the bottle. You are fast becoming my knitting, sewing, tapestry making 19th century heroine. The new name is going to take some getting used to! Hilarious if we all changed our names to maize snacks. What would outsiders make of our thread?

Noks sorry honey but that is a poor show and very bad form from DP. I hope you can talk about it tonight and he understands how much he needs to pull his finger out now. I had that conversation about 10 weeks ago and he has been a different man since. Thriller is our theme tune for today.

Fairy I've had that happen to. Or he'll say he'll cook and then when I get home he is still watching bargain hunt or whatever crap is on the tv and hasn't even started. So he does cook but by the time we eat its 9.30. Fine if you are an arty type with no schedule not so fine for a pregnant woman getting up at 5.30 to do prenatal exercises. Glad the discount code helped. What colour did you get? I laughed at your slow leaning walk although I'm sure it's not so funny for you Smile. We are turning into parodies of pregnant women. Raise your hand if you make noises when you sit down and then when you try to stand up again. And find your self resting with either a hand on your bump or one on your lower back or BOTH!!

Hurrah for buzzy and her 'normal' DD. are you on ravelry buzz? We might as well join up on as many social media sites as possibleSmile. I'll PM you my nickname. The mention of your baby box is very tender. A blanket is a good thing to start with if you want to crochet. It's the first thing I made when I was TTC and starting treatment.

Sweetie queen of the snacksGrin I was laughing so much at the knitted Olympians in the harvest festival I had to read your post to DP. I couldn't get the words out. For some reason that really tickled me. He said how can we call ourselves maize snack connoisseurs when we haven't even mentioned the king of the maize snack (in his opinion)....................the pickled onion monster munch.

keepitgoing · 13/09/2013 23:12

I don't know if pickled onion or roast beef monster munch is the winner for me. Oh god I really got into them and when we were in Thailand and SH come back for a bit he brought me back a multipack in his handluggage, which got searched. The man was a bit [hmmm] and he had to explain he had a preggo wife!

sweetie you have so many delicious snacks. How long with they last, and will DH be allowed even a tiny bite of one.

DH on nights so it's just me and the cat, and I am being pummelled in the stomach more than ever. It's actually freaking me out a bit as it sort of rolls around.

OnionRing · 14/09/2013 05:37

Roast beef definitely. I simultaneously can't wait to go food shopping tomorrow but am supposed to be off snacks in order to lose this baby weight. I will allow myself one bag of something, I'll have to choose very carefully.

keep it does feel quite alarming sometimes, like a churning feeling.

shazza I'm not great at all these crafts so I mustn't be admired for them. I'd love to get good at just one thing but I've yet to find it. I think it might be patchwork and quilting I like best, as I like collecting scraps and then putting the colours together. I've not done much of it but would like to do more. I find knitting great for anxiety management, I usually just knit squares for charity or lavender bags, that kind of thing. I basically need something I can pick up in the evening for half an hour.

I think most men needs the pregnancy stuff spelled out to them. My DH is not instinctive about any of it but if I tell him what to do, he will do it. I remember writing him instructions on how to clean a bathroom. Literally: 1. Wet cloth 2. Spray Cif on sink, and so on.

I'm delighted as Ringlet (as she will now have to be called!) has had a 4am feed and gone back to sleep so hopefully so can I. She's been much better this last two nights after having some solids - or it might be the lager I drank!

SweetieTime · 14/09/2013 12:40

Buzzy congrats on a girl, this is a very pink thread indeed.

keep DH demolished the onion rings last night and I managed all the cheesy poofs. I am already looking forward to this evening and the rest we have to work through. We are looking after DH niece so we may have to share with her too.

Onion what snacks did you get? Am loving new nn and of course Ringlet sounds so cute.

Shazza I have posted you a photo on FB - hope it makes you smile

My DH is another who needs to be told, he is very capable but just doesn't notice dust, crumbs or general greb that needs cleaning without being told. Same with cooking, he will not make a start on tea even if he gets home from work first. He is actually the better cook and says he enjoys it so why he doesn't do more I don't know, well obviously I do he is just lazy and prefers to let me do it.

Shazzamattazzerly · 14/09/2013 14:36

Hi ladies

I just went into a shop to buy some crisps but left because I couldnt decide there was too much choice and it was overwhelming!

Am loving Ringlet. And glad that she was induced into a solid food carb driven slumber. Wait til the baby pasta kicks in! Arts and crafts are the way to go onion. They are the new rock n roll :-)

I used to love beef monster munch but since being veggie can't bring myself to eat them although I'm sure there isn't a shred of meat in them.

Keep the wriggling is disconcerting at times I love it though.

Sweetie. I love your mums Olympians. They are amazing. You have to share your snacks with a child?? That is a big ask. I hope you are fond of this child Grin

Noks how was your evening? I was thinking of you.

I'm trying to decide if I should nap which is what I'm desperate to do or push on and do the prep for my piece that i have to have ready for the show by Thursday. I reckon I'm not going to be able to keep my eyes open. Like ringlet the soup and a sandwich that I've just eaten has made me so sleepy.

keepitgoing · 14/09/2013 16:53

I just checked the packet I was eating as I read this shaz and yep there is no hint of meat!! You should have done a sweetie and just bought it all...

RaspberrySnowCone · 14/09/2013 18:39

Hello all, sorry to thread crash but..... as you have all been there I just wanted to ask some advice as you are the IVF worriers - how did you all cope with the TWW post ET? Mine is tomorrow at 9 and I'm just a bit of a mess to be honest, I don't know how to get through it. I know the reality is that two weeks is two weeks and it will eventually pass but at the same time there must be some coping methods, I just don't know what they are! Any advice or pearls of wisdom? Thanks for listening and congratulations on you pregnancies :)

Buzzybee123 · 14/09/2013 18:49

onion yay to ringlet sleeping

shazza I haven't actually chatted on Ravelry but perhaps its time I do, usually I just look through the patterns

noks is DP still breathing ???, Barry pretty much knows if he doesn't cook he'll just be eating beans on toast, and if he made dinner for him and not me I would just sit down with a fork and eat his :)

keep My cat is behaving oddly at the moment, she tends to walk all over me and minibee

Well we went charity shoppping and got a few baby things for a bargain, Barry seems in boy mode though so had to veto some of the things Hmm

I have a question ladies, the last 3 nights I haven't slept well, I can't put it all down to having to share with Barry but that doesn't help, its my hips, they are killing me, I think some of it is still the swelling and bruising coming out from all those injections, they feel very tender and bruised but can't see anything, would one of the nok towers pillow things help?? I don't want to buy one if I don't need one but as I can't sleep on my back, worry about poor circulation and killing the baby, can't sleep on my front, never have, she is in the way, so its only my sides and they both really hurt. . . I realise some of the pain is all the stretching going on too

Hello Raspberry and best wishes for your ET. We're not all IVFers but we've all been through fertiliy issues and countless 2wws. For me distraction is the key. Housework, TV, knitting, sudoku, daft games on my phone. Anything that keeps you busy. I can also recommend reading the 'relationships' section on here, there's enough drama there to keep you engrossed for hours! Or chat with us about maize-based snacks.

shazza I knew there'd be no whiff of actual beef in monster munch. Regarding crafts, something happens to a lot of women in their thirties and they feel the need to craft. (I have more thoughts on this that I'll bore PM you about at some point!) Also I hope you didn't watch a birth video this morning.

Snack fail. I was so busy buying sensible things in Sainsbury's that I completely forgot. I then went to my nearby town and got a navy parka from Primark which is great for £25 and a huge bag of stewing steak from the market which I turned into a gloriously tasty goulash.

Ringlet has decided she can only now feed if she has a large handful of my hair. Much as I love her this is not really on. Yesterday she spent one feed gently hitting me in the face or trying to shove her hand in my mouth. I was planning to bf to12 months but if this carries on I'm not so sure.

OnionRing · 14/09/2013 19:22

X posted Buzz. Like your style with a fork.

I found a 5ft bolster pillow from these people kept me on my side and as comfortable as I could manage. It's not got 'maternity' sprayed on it so I think it's a bit cheaper. I'm still using it for night feeding support.

RaspberrySnowCone · 14/09/2013 19:29

Maize based snacks you say onion? Distraction may be the way to go then. I've been off work the last week as had so many appointments/EC so have had far to much time to think, and google. Not good. Hopefully I can join your thread as a legit member in a few weeks!

fairypangolin · 14/09/2013 20:15

raspberry I found the zita west ivf relaxation cd (also on iTunes) v useful to get through the 2ww. I listened to it every night and it really helped me to sleep when otherwise I would be a mess. Like onion said too I tried to keep busy by working every day and lots of entertainment like the mad men series 6 DVD. But I was a basket case really no matter what I did.. Good luck with ET tomorrow - and come back for advice, commiseration or maize based snack chat any time!

shazza I got the red star shaped blanket because I love that colour. DH has done the start cooking at 9, eat at midnight thing too. And I make terrible grunts and "oof"
sounds whenever I get up or sit down. By 8 pm I'm moaning away like I'm 93.

buzzy could you try putting another duvet under you or a mattress pad? I had a lot of hip pain at night when I was pg w DS but this time I've bbeen fine and I think it's because we got a memory foam mattress topper in the meantime so our mattress is a lot softer. Is the pain only at night?

OnionRing · 14/09/2013 20:22

Memory foam is a very good idea, the way it sinks under you would probably help a lot. I only have a memory foam pillow which is like a sack of wet sand but it's amazingly comfy now I'm used to it. I got it cheap off eBay.

I always found that box sets ended up having a distressing subtheme relating to fertility!

putthecrispsDOWN · 14/09/2013 20:39

If we are changing names to snack based names then can I keep mine please? It originated from eating too many salt and vinegar twists...

buzzy my consultants mantra is 'any hip pain IS spd'..*...think you may need to be referred to physio for some exercise or one of those sexy girdle whatnots. That said I am still waiting for an appointment two months after the referral. Have struggled with it on and off...I hated the phallic dream genii pillow and now sleep with a firm cushion in front of the bump that I kind of rest my upper leg on sometimes, as a pillow was too big. I move around a lot too and now have the odd bath which helps (I leave bump sticking out of the bath though as am still paranoid).

noks how was The Chat? Poor boys are a bit oblivious at times I think but we still need support. I bet mr Noks will be an ace Dad though as soon as noklino arrives.

onion can't believe you forgot the snacks! The snack aisle is always in the centre of the shop, like it's what everything revolves around I think. Can I offer salted cashews into the mix please? Value range of course as I don't want to make this a middle class snack thread but I love their salty goodness, mmm.

Congrats buzzy on joining team pink and providing another suitor for sweetie's solitary boy! Does it seem more real now?!

sweetie your mum is my new craft idol. I knit but only square things as can't really do patterns yet. Love quilting too, but need a new sewing machine!

shazza hand raised for old lady noises whenever moving in any direction.

What the chuff is eagerly? Sounds like something I can google to waste more of my sat on my arse time, will check it out.

raspberry I would second distraction, if only to limit the incessant googling of pregnancy symptoms. Try to get out if you can in a relaxed way...get a wash and blow dry, go out for a coffee, that kind of thing if you are able. Sitting on your own can make your head spin! In my first cycles I sat very still, but in my last one I gave up and went back to work after three days...I had success from both methods so I'd say just do what feels right for you.

putthecrispsDOWN · 14/09/2013 20:39

Eagerly? Sodding ravelry, sorry, bloody fat crisp shovelling fingers.

Buzzybee123 · 14/09/2013 22:15

rasp so sorry we x posts and then I buggered off, I am not one to ask about the 2ww I had ET on a Saturday by Wednesday I 'd had a mini breakdown, pulled my shite together on Thursday then cracked and tested on the Friday, I agree with the distraction, something that occupies the mind, a movie perhaps, good luck :-)

crisp Grin sweeties little boy is going to be player with all these girls, it feels more like bruising I thought SPD was pain in the inside sort of groin area Confused I work with physios so not what they are like :) I shall perhaps go see what my GP says in a week or so but feel you might be right, the problem with the phallic pillow is that there is a 'green line' down the middle of our bed and Barry is particular about me not crossing over it so not sure where this thing would fit Hmm

fairy we have a memory foam mattress, I did try a few moves with my spare pillow but didn't help, I shall try again

onion I used to date a guy who used to thing it was ok to try whatever was on my plate without asking, I told him 'do that again and I'll stab you with it', he didn't do it again Grin I'm curious to hear your views on 30 something crafters, I started at age 6 Grin and I'm now longer a 30 something

Also ladies while you are sorting out my health ishoos, I have spots on my arms and legs, a bit like a leper Hmm they don't really itch but I look diseased Hmm

OP posts:
OnionRing · 14/09/2013 23:30

Ravelry is a big crafting community website.

My views are not really age related Buzzy. It's that some people have always done craft - like you I was taught to knit, sew and embroider when I was quite young, it's ingrained knowledge. However, I suspect many people then abandon it for 20 years, or only start to take an interest when they're in their 30s and I wonder why?

Secondly, I'm interested in whether it becomes a mechanism for anxiety management, or whether people feel more 'connected' to their older female relatives at this point (perhaps even through child bearing) and handicrafts may be one way of sharing knowledge and experience. (This is partly what I wanted to bore Shaz about with her interest in knowledge transfer.) For example, I was taught to cast on by my grandma in the idiosyncratic style that her mother taught her. I now cast on in the style of this great grandmother of mine, whom I never met and who was born in the 19th century. That is about the only link I have with this person. It's very interesring to me how traditional female crafts are handed down and what role they play in our modern lives. I knit mostly to relieve anxiety - my great grandmother knitted socks etc for her husband and four kids out of necessity, they were dirt poor. What an enormous gulf there would be between us if we met today - but we would both cast on in the same way. I'm not really sure what I think of all this other than it's a large part of female life, both historically and contemporarily. Do tell me what you thonk though (other than 'do shut up')

Anyway, feed over. Can I have two consecutive good nights?

keepitgoing · 14/09/2013 23:42

Hi raspberry good luck for tomorrow. I found the time between ec and et quite relaxing in a funny way, as for once it wasn't to do with my body, and you knew what was going on. It's then only 9 days much less if you're buzzy or sweetie who are impatient and the first few are taken up with rest post et. I did crack up the night before I tested, its hard not to. I defy anyone to get through ivf with no breakdown! My mantra was that you really really can't know till you test, because of all the drugs mimicking things, so I tried to ignore anything I felt. All the luck in the world, and hope you'll join us in two weeks.

buzzy strangely enough since I have been sleeping on a lilo my painful hips are better... I lie on the side but sort of a bit forward till the bump stops me, iykwim. There seems to be less pressure on the hips that way. My cat is not interested in my bump, that's cute that yours likes buzetta :)

I am especially old lady like in the mornings, humping myself round the bed, and when standing up, shaz. It's ridiculous. How do obese people cope?!?!

OnionRing · 15/09/2013 06:07

It must be bloody awful being obese. I think one of the nicest things about no longer being pregnant is how light I feel. I practically bounce up and down stairs now, which when I was on crutches for SPD seemed unimaginable!

How is Dildals getting on?

RaspberrySnowCone · 15/09/2013 06:09

Thanks ladies. Well, I'm awake. Quite proud of my sleep, I was snoring my midnight and woke at just after 5 so can't complain. I had a panick attack Tuesday night after EC and and one yesterday afternoon. Nights are always worse so thought for sure I'd be off on one last night but guess I wore myself out. We have to leave at 7 as the clinic is bloody miles away and the appointment is at 9.

fairypangolin · 15/09/2013 06:28

Good luck with the ET razzy! Is it your first cycle? ET is much easier than EC, we had ours on our wedding anniversary so it actually felt a bit special, ha ha.

RaspberrySnowCone · 15/09/2013 06:40

Wow fairy that's an amazing day to have it. Funny how's these things work out isn't it.
Yes this is our first cycle. I've found the whole thing hugely more stressful than I ever thought I would. I'm not so much worried about the procedure, just the bit after. Was your first round successful ?
