being completely paranoid having just read the website about the severe morning sickness thing

it said the the severe thing (HG) starts at around 6 weeks but normal morning sickness starts at 8-9 weeks well I'm 7 weeks in 3 days and I've been feeling sicky n and off for the last couple of weeks

m irrational side has now decidied that I'm going to develope the severe thing andit's terrified me

It's nonsense to think this isn't it, I feel the same way I did with my last pg and surely it would be severe straight away if it was going to be, noone in my family has ever suffered the severe thing and the 8-9 weeks thing for normal sickness is surely just a guidline so I should just shut up and stop worrying, please reassure me

sorry to ramble incoherently Blush

All three times I started to feel nauseous at around six weeks, but I didn't get the severe form. I did, however, feel nauseous all day every day up until about 16 weeks. Sad

nicnack2 · 11/06/2006 20:49

Poor you. With both ds i started feeling sick the day after my period was due. Was never actively sick with either just nauseous all the time.

tassis · 11/06/2006 20:50

trinityrhino · 11/06/2006 20:50

I started feeling sick the morning af was due and I did the test! At first, I thought it was just psycosymatic (is that how you spell it!?) but that was 4 days ago and i'm still feeling crap. I haven't thrown up, but I have background nausea the whole time, DH has gone away with work for 5 days and I have DS to pick up from kindergarten! I didn't have ms at all with DS, so this is all new to me. I seem to have to eat constantly to keep it under control - I'm going to put on so much weight!!

hulababy · 12/06/2006 18:14

I remember starting to be physically sick at 5 weeks onwards.

donnie · 12/06/2006 18:14

sorry to say but I had sickness from the very beginning with dd2 for around 18 - 20 weeks. It did fade but reappeared at about 34 weeks. It can be very wearing but they do say the more sickness the better ( for some weird reason, an old wives' tale i think).

JILS · 12/06/2006 18:26

Severe sickness started at around 6 weeks. By 8 weeks I was so dehydrated, my GP was talking about admitting me to hospital. They tried giving me an injection and pessaries (GROSS!!) and this helped things to settle a bit. ALthough I stopped being sick, I constantly felt nauseous. I had to take medication till I was 18 weeks when it passed, literally, overnight!

eenywifemum · 12/06/2006 19:14

I have HG and am 28 weeks - it started around 6 weeks and has included a week long hosp. stay for severe dehydration. I still have to take 2 anti-sickness pills 3x a day just to keep it at bay although it is much better now than it was.

I really hope you dont have HG it ruined the first 5 months of my pregnancy and I am only now starting to feel a little stronger from it. Dont want to sound gloomy though!! Take comfort that with the vast majority of cases it is regular morning sickness - awful but WILL pass!! Do keep on top of things with your doctor because it went on for way too long with me. You need to get your key-tones checked if you are being sick several times a day for many days on end. At my worst I was sick up to 20 times a day and that is just impossible to cope with.

I really dont want to make you panic though! Just if you do get ill you can come on here and talk about it if you need to. Good luck!

Dior · 12/06/2006 19:16

I was exactly 6 weeks, and had it until 4 months.

oooggs · 12/06/2006 19:19

I started feeling sick when the pregnancy test went positive, and was feeling and being sick until ds born at 34 weeks.

homemama · 12/06/2006 19:53

I've had HG with both my pregnancies and with both it started bang on 6wks.

Unlike normal morning sickness, it's not usually something which varies from pg to pg. Therefore, if you didn't have it with your first then your unlikely to have it this time.

HTH

olivo · 12/06/2006 19:55

I started feeling nauseaous at 4 weeks but wasnt actually sick till about 12 weeks. that lasted till about 18 weeks, I felt great for about 8 weeks and have now been nauseaous and a bit sick again since 26ish weeks (now nearly 30)

hopefully yours wont be too bad - good luck!

Donbean · 12/06/2006 19:56

me too, 6 weeks. Felt sick from the moment i opened my eyes till the moment i closed them at night.....until i was 17 weeks Sad

trinityrhino · 12/06/2006 19:58

thanks guys, I feel much more rational about it all now.
I'm so sorry to hear about those of you that have HG,it must be extremely hard to live with

I didn't have any nausea with my first pg, ifelt ill from week 8 constantly till about week 20 with secound pg and have felt ill constantly since about 5 weeks with this one.

I don't have HG and havent actually been sick at all.
Sorry to have been silly and worried when so many others are suffering so much worse

Thanks again for helping a silly me relax, happy thoughts for all those suffering with all forms of morning sickness, it sucks Smile

When I was pg with ds I was signed off work from 5 - 16 weeks cos I was sick all the time. With dd, I had it for a couple of weeks in the evenings

Elibean · 13/06/2006 13:44

Yup, its nonsense trinityrhino - mine started at 6 weeks with dd, and 5 weeks this time, and its been bog standard miserable morning sickness, not the truly awful HG.
I had constant nausea by 8 weeks (sicky on and off till then, especially in the evenings) worst at night, slowly fading (on and off again) from 11 weeks and now 14 weeks virtually gone.
Hope yours is shortlived, and congrats on your pregnancy!

My ms started around 6wk the first time around, and with the second baby it started before I could even test, so from maybe 4wk, but neither time was worse than the other and although it was quite debilitating at times I never actually vomited. Besides, HG doesn't always follow a pattern - I had a friend who was hospitalised with it the first time around and was chucking every day until the day her baby was born, but had bog-standard ms the second time around and it cleared up at about 16wk.

Sometimes the web can be a bit of a false friend. You really need to pick and choose what you read, and make the decision not to read anything overly scarey or negative!

sandradee · 13/06/2006 13:51

Hi Trinityrhino, I actually did not experience any morning sickness at all. However I know someone who suffered so badly there was not a day when they threw up - even in the delivery room they were still chucking up.

I think that most people just get it for a few months and then it goes.

PrettyCandles · 13/06/2006 13:51

Olivo, my ms returned towards in 3rd trimester and I found that I was very slightly anaemic. As soon as I took iron and sorted out the anaemia the ms eased. Also needed to drink more than I had been. Perhaps that's the case with you?

eenywifemum · 13/06/2006 16:24

PrettyCandles - thats nice to hear about HG not necessarily being as bad in each pregnancy. My DH has actually decided (and trust me, he means it!) that this will be our only child as he was (and is) so upset over how sick I've been - the HG has been the main thing but I have had a pretty hard pregnancy. Not as hard as some of the brave ladies on here, I must say, but hard. I think in a couple of years I would be willing to be pregnant once more but he is convinced the HG etc will be as bad.

Kathy1972 · 13/06/2006 16:29

I understand from what I've read on the hg websites (which are fairly consistent on this) that if you've had hg in your first pg you have about a 66% chance of getting it in your second.

I had it much worse in my first pg than the second.

Normsnockers · 13/06/2006 16:47

HG for me started at about 5 weeks and first pg subsided at about 30 weeks, this time about 20 weeks.

HG can be controlled, there are drugs that can help, I managed to carry on working pretty much full-time (after 4 days in hospital) as I eventually got some drugs that really helped.

Other people who didn't want to take drugs or who had G.P.'s unwilling to take the sickness seriously had to take things a bit easier.

Having said that, this my second pregnancy is definately going to be my last as I've had HG in both and can't bear the thought of doing it again.

Pruni · 13/06/2006 16:52

It absolutely sucks, doesn't it? The one and only time I have felt suicidal.
