Ok folks, I'm sure it's been done before but I'd like to compile a list of all the magic potions, herbal teas, old wives tales and secret places you've used to get pregnant or you've heard of so that my friends and I over on conception can come and join you over here!

No skimping on the details please and thank you in advance! Grin

i always thought that it was best to bd from day 14. However, I conceived both my children on day 11...

PollyParanoia · 01/08/2006 12:48

I think the sperm meets egg plan link here I hope works a treat for those of us no longer in the first flush of youth. Draconian sex regime esp if you've long cycles, but it worked for me. Basically vast amounts of bedroom action (every other day from day 8, then three days in a row when you get a postive opk). As did, er hate this phrase, "doggie style" because I think I may have an inverted uterus, whatever that is.
This sounds like a sarky thing to say, but it's not meant to be, but I do think sex is a bit of an underated tactic in ttc...

Oh and vast amounts of water (to drink, not as sex aid) as well as grapefruit juice. Made a startling difference to my cervical mucus. But that's probably more than you wanted to know about me.

THE BABY ASPIN DO YOU TAKE UPTO OVULATE OR EVERY DAY?

twocatsonthebed · 01/08/2006 12:52

Boots is a chain of chemists. If you go to a chemist and ask for "75mg dispersible aspirin tablets" (it's most usually prescribed for risk of stroke) that should do the trick.

If you can't find it, I think quarter of a normal aspirin is almost as good (if the tablets are 300mg, that is).

twocatsonthebed · 01/08/2006 12:53

oh, and every day (sorry, cross posting there!). When I did get pregnant, the consultant told me to keep taking it until week 36.

crazydazy · 01/08/2006 12:55

vodka and redbull seemed to work for me oh and second time I got PG even though I had the coil fitted!!

WantAbabyNOW · 01/08/2006 12:58

Thanks for advice re: baby asprin.

I just did a search and found a story of a lady who was on metformin (as i am) for 2 weeks and had had no af for months and got bfp without af arriving.. hope for me yet!

Have you tried asprin thing before trace?

brimfull · 01/08/2006 13:04

I have pcos and the atkins diet did it for me.

100Vicki · 01/08/2006 13:37

I made sure we did the deed on the 13th, 14th and 15th day after the first day of my last period (around the time that you're most fertile). Got pregnant in the first month of trying with this method with both my ds and my new lo that I'm carrying now. Good luck to all who are trying now !

cupcakes · 01/08/2006 13:44

I tried for 5 months before I conceived earlier this year. It sadly ended in a missed miscarriage diagnosed at 12 weeks. The next bit is the interesting bit - within 3-4 weeks of the bleeding I conceived again. I knew I was ovulating as I get pain in my side when it happens so we just went for it. I have heard somewhere that after a mc you are incredibly fertile as your body is so 'ripe'. A nurse friend of mil also quoted this theory at me afterwards.
Obviously there is no way you could anticipate this but I thought it was very interesting and from a conception point of view somewhat flies in the face of the advice that you should leave it a couple of months to let your body get over it before you try again.
Please, please note that these are just my observations and not medically supported. There are also many good reasons to leave a gap after a mc - time for grieving being hugely significant.

buckeyebird · 01/08/2006 13:46

I got the book "taking charge of your fertility" by Toni Weschler which is AMAZING! YOu use your body temperatures and check cervical fluid and position. I did this and used ovulation predictir strips. I learnt so much about my body (I have long cycles) and was amazed that the 28 day cycle, ovulate on day 14 myth is so afr from the truth for so many.

As such improved bd timing and using natural progesterone cream for a luteal phase defect and vit B6 for my bfp after 4 cycles.

BettySpaghetti · 01/08/2006 13:49

A friend of mine had been trying to conceive for over 2 years and was getting nowhere and feeling really down about it.

She went out and bought a couple of rabbits as pets to take her mind off the TTC and within 4 weeks got pregnant. She swears its because she had another focus and was more relaxed.

trace2 · 01/08/2006 15:59

WantAbabyNOW no but i was told to take every day about 6 years ago as i had a blood clot on my lung, which nearly killed me, but for a while i was on warfin, you carnt stop on that iys a blood test every week so they told me to take 75mg of tabs , i never did (silly i know) but when i fly i take it, when i had ds i also was on it from 30 weeks till birth then i was back on warfrin until ds was 6 month old

shhhh · 01/08/2006 16:05

I seem to conceive while abroard on hol. Don't know if it's because I'm relaxed or if it's the temp by body gets to in the heat...??!
An expensive method..!

trace2 · 01/08/2006 16:09

being told that there was absolutely no way we'd ever have kids and not to waste our time/money on IVF, selling our sensible car and buying a sports car, spending chunk of cash on a very expensive holiday and recarpeting the house. 2 weeks later, pregnant.

Am kind of hoping that taking a big job in a foreign country will prompt baby 2 to put in an appearance.

mousiemousie · 01/08/2006 16:40

Go for the wrong guy.

That works!

DogMum · 01/08/2006 16:44

DP gave up caffeine six months before conception (apparently takes that long to have an effect.) Doing the do twice a week with no regard for dates (honestly, I couldn't tell my doctor my dates.) Although it was probably more to do with relaxing about it - having tried for so long, I really believed it would never happen to me. I'm still amazed every time I catch sight of my 6 month belly in a mirror or reflected in a shop window.

DogMum · 01/08/2006 16:46

Oh actually - joking aside - cutting down on booze helps. For both of you. (Not cutting it out completely of course.)

mythumbelinas · 01/08/2006 16:46

trace2, i was in greece one summer and there was a mini earthquake!!
mine was, for dd1, having my dad badger and badger me to give him a grandchild!
for dd2, trying to get pg, failed for some months then deciding 'okay, just the one child then' .. job hunting, looking forward to having my freedom back whilst dd1 went to school, then suddenly having funny feelings and bingo!

lotussister · 01/08/2006 16:47

lol meowmix - same here. Except possibly even more extreme, as we quit jobs, moved abroad, and bought a huge rambling ruin of a house which we are renovating ourselves, so living in a building site pretty much indefinitely...kept telling ourselves that yes, it's irresponsible but we can afford to be as we have no children. Now 19 wks pg

quootiepie · 01/08/2006 17:13

deep sex, lie down with pillow under hips for 20 + minutes. I did pelvic floor exercises while I was doing this, dunno if it helps the flow along! I got pregnant in 1 attempt, 13 days after period i think, but i think i was very lucky.

emmawill · 01/08/2006 17:18

Both of mine lots of alcohol, and had bad arguement with dh then had crazed make up sex.
