I am going to ram that pregnancy book down his throat.

Wish I had never bloody brought my DP a book about pregnancy. He is now apparently a professor of pregnancy and knows everything there is to know.

I can't do anything without him piping up that I should be doing it a different way. Every single night I get told I need to lie on my left side regardless of the fact the right side is more comfy.

There are loads of other things too and when I question him saying surely I know more about this than him seeing as I am the one actually going through this pregnancy he just replies that the book says do it this way.

I know he is only trying to help and it's cute that he is so excited, but I wish he would give it a rest.

Anyone else have any know it all partners or family?

ha! i sympathise! after he starting to read 'french children don't throw food' my DH told me he totally agreed that people should tell pregnant women if they are too fat and being pregnant doesn't mean you should put on weight. oh and me standing up for pregnant women saying that our bodies do strange things and although i don't want to pile on pounds, some weight gain is inevitable, was me just standing up for fat people (i myself am a good size 16 and have always been paranoid about my weight so obviously the steam started bellowing out of my ears).

and before anyone gives me a bashing i know that too much weight gain can be dangerous etc etc but it was the way he said it!

i found a sharp 'go and f**k yourself and you try to grow a human' helped.

I'm considering throwing the book at his head after he just tried to calm me down by saying 'i know you're not really mad at me for not getting you a burger. it's just the hormones'

How about buying him a different pregnancy book? It's bound to say something different and therefore he will have to choose which one is correct, or concede that there might be more than one way of doing things. Good luck!! At least he's interested!!

There's a brilliant pregnancy book for dads by dean Beaumont from DaddyNatal - get him that instead. It shows him how to be supportive..

I can't get my dp to do any reading/researching/the odd google.

Id like him to show a bit more interest in the going ons of pregnancy but he didn't with our first so doubt he will with this lil bean!

Both me and HB were equally clueless, we bought a book and once baby arrived and started howling the house down every night, i'd shout 'look in the bloody book, there's GOT TO BE AN ANSWER!'. Alas, I learnt books are frikkin' useless.

he's got about 4 books. do he knows everything there is to know.

we arrived at my dad's this morning and he whispered yo my dad that I was very hormonal recently so watch out. naturally I threw my shoe at his head and told him to fuck the fuck off and then went 'sorry, it's the hormones'

I loved the hormone excuse. I used to pull all kinds of unreasonable shit when he was ticking me off just to see what I could get away under the aegis of 'hormones'

At least he has read the book. Mine just automatically knew everything.

Whenever I disagreed with him about anything he would say "but I have read a lot about this and the research says xxxx" either that or he would say that the research was wrong and because his teachers thought he was a genius at school I should listen to him.

He really got on my nerves with first pregnancy. Luckily after DS was born he was too tired to argue with me about the second.

Df is good in the way he lets me get on but when he is in his hyper moods he'll sit, pretend to cry knowing it makes me really cry and my boobs start leaking, then fake sob about how he can't help it its the hormones, how his boobs are hurting and how mean I am to make him cry depending on my own hormonal state he either gets a laugh because it is really funny or I sit sobbing about him making fun of me and how hard it is for me growing a whole wee person

Be 'lucky' that whilst he's empathising in a very annoying way he's not trying to become you just to prove his point

today he got a bowl if cereal thrown at his head because he told me the book says I should eat healthy food and cocopops aren't good for me.

today I am finding this book and burning it

This sounds exactly like my BIL. He was so addicted to the book that when my sister's waters broke and she said I think we should call the hospital. His response was "let's just check the book first" and it was only after consulting the book that he would let my sister call!

So I say burn the book way before it gets this far!!!

I just wish he could actually experience pregnancy for real so he could see that the book doesn't know everything. alas that will never happen.

God help df if he stopped me eating coco pops - for 5 weeks I was unable to even grunt at anyone until I'd ate them! They make me sick now:( I'm onto cheerios :)

He needs a good hard kick up the bahooty and to realise pregnancy is not rational - you know what you are supposed to do it doesn't change what your body/mind or hormones tells you to do and surely he'd rather you listen to your body over a damned book seeing as it's your body growing the baby

Smack him from me I'm getting ratty on your behalf here

Thankfully my DH hasn't read the book!! But if I am worried or struggling with anything he will look it up on the Internet.
But anytime I complain about him doing/not doing something he just says "are your hormones playing up" which makes me want to slap him!! And the worst one if I disagree with him he says "I know you know I'm right and its just baby brain making you think this way" that is the most annoying sentence ever!!!!
Personally I would rip the book up and shove it up his ass and down his throat and then say sorry couldn't decide wherr to shove it, it must be the baby brain!! Haha xx
