Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BlackholesAndRevelations · 24/07/2013 08:01

Garden- we're in the exact same position but luckily have just been able to up the hours at nursery as they went to both. Will need to find another cm ASAP but no one will be good enough :-(

Eek I'm so excited for you Anda- your girls are going to ve here very soon!

Gary? Are you there?! Grin

IBelieveInPink · 24/07/2013 08:12

Diet - those are lovely names! The only ones we have managed to agree on so far are Mya, Imogen and Natasha. I know we only need one, but I feel like there needs to be more options!
And wow, august is soon! Oh I can't wait till you have your babies, going to be so exciting!!

ChristineDaae · 24/07/2013 08:13

Hi rainbow! Congrats OB your BFP.
DIY - congratulations on your healthy boy! How exciting :)
Saggy- that's terrible from your friend. I definitely think a bit of cooling off time is needed

Bodicea · 24/07/2013 08:46

Oh now shell am in a panic now. Everything I order for this baby falls apart. I never got the cot i ordered as hey kept losing it and then went out of stock. Argh

shellsocks · 24/07/2013 09:15

janie I know I'm having a boy too, will be the biggest shock of my life if they pop out a girl Grin

thunder brilliant getting the 3+, such a good feeling Smile

pink no list here, we have had Evie as a girls name for years....now boys I need help with! The only one we agree on is Noah but I would like more! Loving yours and anda's name lists Smile

choc I liked that abt Kate too, she looked great but didn't try to hide that she had just had a baby Smile

That's bad timing garden can you turn your hormonal tears to good use and ask beg for longer?

I'm sorry bod I just thought you'd rather know now so you can send it back, rather than use it for a month or so and realise it was a waste of money? Maybe go into mothercare or similar and ask them abt the new rules and the seat you have bought...they said to me that current seats hold babies up to 83cm but new seats need to hold up to 85? So it might be your seat is ok? Sorry if I've stressed you out x

Bodicea · 24/07/2013 09:25

Right so just googled it and it is rear facing. Few. It's the recaro young profit plus x
So I think should be ok right. Unless get change the las so all the car seats have to be completely different or something !?

WhatWillSantaBring · 24/07/2013 09:27

Hey bod don't worry about the car seat. They've been talking about changing the laws on rear facing car seats for the past 3 years - in Scandanavia, they're compulsory (I think) till age 4. If you are small, you might well have a small baby anyway - DC1 was (is) so diddy that she fitted in her Group 0/0+ till she was 22 months (and even then, could have gone another couple of months), so you may well be able to keep your DC in his/her first car seat for at least 15 months anyway. Remember, it goes on height, not age. (Eyes below top of the seat).

Also, you can get rear facing car seats from 0-3 (i.e. up to age 4) so if the law changes, and you're growing out of it, you just get the next stage up as a rear facer too. So no need to panic.

All you need for the baby for the first 6 weeks is a shit load of babygrows (and vests if its winter), a pram, a car seat and a moses basket. You can get the cot and everything else later when you work out which way is up again. They're simple little souls when they're born unlike now when they're nearly three and demanding a swing with a blue seat

I have lots of girls names if anyone wants some? Clementine, Charlotte, Amelia, Emilia, Amelie, Emma (spot a theme) Sophia, Isabella, Alice (though DH has flatly refused that, because of that slightly obscure song from the 90s "Who the Fk is Alice") Katie, Libbie (though christen Elizabeth). I'm sure there are more but those are my favourites. Not sure we can afford the seven children I'd need to use them all-- Its boys names I'm stuck on. At least I'm not K-Mid - imagine having to pick a boys name that really does work as a King name - not a lot of choice from the British Royal family, is there!!

WhatWillSantaBring · 24/07/2013 09:29

Oh bod also, I should point out, that all newborn car seats are rear facing anyway (as far as I know?). Its only after about 9 months that you can get forward facing ones.

shellsocks · 24/07/2013 09:38

bod santa is right, all car seats for new borns are currently rear facing till 9m / 20lb but the law is changing to be rear facing to 15m....I don't know when just was told it would be before this baby was born.

My DS was 20lb at 5m Shock but we kept him in the seat till 7m he wouldn't have lasted till 9, let alone 15 so we would have needed to buy another seat for him....so we are waiting and buying one of the new ones?

Bodicea · 24/07/2013 10:43

Thanks guys. Ok think I understand, the newborn seats are ok. It's the next stage up that are changing and they may need it a bit sooner that before. Have I got that right. So I am ok? Or should I cancel order and wait. Lol it's a minefield. Maybe should have done more research!!

GaryBuseysTeeth · 24/07/2013 11:06

Still pregnant....nothing since yesterday. Annoyed at myself, because I never had anything like it with DS, I assumed it was 'It'!
Sticking my fingers in ears & pretending I'm not pg for the next 4weeks (37+4).

Saggy, your friend sounds like a total Codpiece. Hope the break from her isn't too painful for you or DD.

DIY, hurrah for a boy!

Thunder, glad you got your 3+, that was my first milestone this pg.

Re.Car seats & da rulz changing, from what I gather the old laws will run along side the new ones until 2018! Britax info (info is avalible independently but Britax explain it best).
DH's job is all about road laws & they've not heard a sausage yet!

anda, good luck for your SIL!

My girls names would've been; Cordelia, Cressida, Elizabeth, Katherine, Selina...basically anything really poncy!
Love Mya IBIP, I'm one of those people who is put off a name if I meet someone horrible with it (Alice, Rebecca, Harvey to name a few)!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 24/07/2013 11:09

Has anyone seen the royal baby car seat thread? It's quite amusing! Apparently, nobody is allowed to criticise them for getting it wrong because they are in the spotlight and deserve a break! Confused Because anyone else in the world would have been reduced to salvageable parts by Mumsnet by now for getting it wrong! Hmm

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 24/07/2013 11:10

Grin @ Gary's "total codpiece"! Grin I know I'm probably being a bit unreasonable about it, but thanks for making me laugh!

shellsocks · 24/07/2013 11:19

Thanks gary Grin Sorry things have stopped for now...just keep resting as it may strike at anytime now ShockSmile

bod the new rules are from birth but as per gary's post are running alongside the old rules for a few years so its up to you whether you keep the seat you have bought or go with the new rules? Coulda told me that in mothercare! Think I'm gonna stick with the plan of getting the new type tho, as its for safety reasons? Confusing Confused

The 2018 rules state that kids up to 12 have to be in a high back booster seat Shock Cant imagine telling my nephew that!

IBelieveInPink · 24/07/2013 13:43

Gary - you get a gold star for the codpiece comment!
I love the name cordelia, but DH said no. Mya is cute isn't it, im just not sure if it's too close to Mia which is quite popular?

Saggy - what did they do wrong with the car seat?!

DIYandEatCake · 24/07/2013 15:30

pink I used to teach a Maya (different spelling, same pronunciation I think?) and she was lovely, love the name! It's not very common round here.
shell thanks for clearing up the car seat thing, was the first I'd heard of it and i was starting to worry we wouldn't be able to use dd's old one.
saggy Gary is so right! But also wonder if your friend might be a bit jealous for reasons she hasn't told anyone about.
Thanks for all the lovely comments, I feel so lucky to still be here, can hardly believe it. I'm now v excited about the idea of having a boy (the post I lost most of was basically saying I'd been expecting them to say 'girl' as that's all I could imagine, with a dd and coming from a family of girls!). And I'll have an excuse to buy more cute baby clothes (though so will mil... Eek!)

GardenWorm · 24/07/2013 15:57

Thanks Blackholes my mum used to be a childminder and she just reminds me of how my mum used to be with the kids (like they were one of their own) and I know ones like that are hard to come by! Unfortunately no amount of sobbing/begging will work Shell, she starts a job in Sep. Still it has forced me to start maternity leave earlier so my last day will be 25th Oct....only 3 months left!

Bodicea · 24/07/2013 16:07

Cancelled it. Gonna wait it out. It is a bit early anyhow and it wasnt that much of a bargain. Thanks for advice girls.

My girls names are Charlotte, Clara and cleo. I seem to have a thing about the letter c! Charlotte is the front runner but we would call here Charlie from the start in order to avoid lottie which i hate. I also quite like frances, Francesca and Josephine none of which work with my rather awkward surname. Also like Philipa but the poppa Middleton has spoilt it a bit for me.

Bodicea · 24/07/2013 16:09

Garden that must be gutting. Have put my name down for childminder already! She is very popular!

Rockchick1984 · 24/07/2013 16:15

Bodicea just be aware that although you can push for Charlie while she's little, chances are she will shorten it to something else when she gets a bit older. My name is Elizabeth, my parents always called me Libby until I was about 6 and decided I wanted to "sound like a grown up" and insisted everyone called me Lizzie instead Hmm so just be certain you are happy with nicknames in case she does the same!!

Thundercatsarego · 24/07/2013 16:30

Hello ladies. I have had a horrible day- only just bringing myself to write about it without sobbing!

So after my great 3+ start to the day, I rang up to get my thyroid results and was initially told 'yes they're fine'. Insisted to know the actual number and it's more than doubled since the last test- queue total panic. Insist on speaking to a doctor whilst fuming- just because its within the questionable NHS levels- and near the top at that, it's more than double the level at which they see as max for pregnancy.

Speak to yet another doctor and have to go through the whole 'these are the guidelines' conversation yet again after she tells me to wait a month and have another test. So she agrees I can up my dose a bit and go back in 4-6 weeks. Just so sick of having to fight my corner and explain these things to the people who are supposed to be looking after me.

So in the end I ring the midwife unit too. I know I'll get a consultant when I book in and I just wanted to chat to someone about how frightened and frustrated I am by all this. Well, she was LOVELY. She's going to ring me tomorrow and personally put me down for early booking in and referral. And breathe. (A bit).

Sorry for rant, the worlds been falling apart today and that's been between meetings/trains etc etc. Sad

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 24/07/2013 17:20

Thunder have a {{{hug}}} matey.
The thing ive learnrd about the nhs over the years is you have to stamp your feet and fight your corner all of the time.
IBIP the baby was swaddled in the car seat with the straps over the top. A real no no. His arm was not under one of the straps and they were far too loose. Ideally they need to be TIGHT!

Bodicea · 24/07/2013 17:25

thunder - I second with saggy. you do have to stamp your feet sometimes x

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 24/07/2013 17:28

Exactly! I am having a very sage and wise day today. Smile

Thundercatsarego · 24/07/2013 17:45

You have to stamp your feet every bloody time! It's not right it's not. and I should be paid more for it

Just hope there's no harm done.

saggy have you seen your 'friend' today?
