New thread ladies!

Happy birthday for tomorrow Bod sounds like you have a lovely day lined up!
DH is looking after DS tomorrow so I can go for a trip into York and a mooch round the shops. First stop will be a child free latte in Betty's!

Wow Myrtle you are being a superstar for managing all this so calmly. I can't believe you have to wait another week. I echo what garden said, I think when you feel up to it you should complain. Big hugs xxx

andadietcoke · 01/08/2013 20:24

myrtle that's utterly shit. I am in awe of your good humour in the face of such a shitstorm. I really hope you get some answers very soon.

omri my ms was like that. I found that if I ate something as soon as I woke up and didn't have my vitamins until after I'd eaten, then I wouldn't be sick - I too would be fine until I was about to walk out the door!

pixie no twins in my family either, and spontaneous twins after a mc seem to be quite common anecdotally - something to do with hyper ovulation... Wink

Bodicea · 01/08/2013 21:41

Sorry i have been awol for a while. A lot to catch up on I see.

Myrtle - Sounds like you have had a terrible time of it. Life can be such a shit sometimes. I hope that you get some answers soon.

Congrats to gary and baby gary - hoping we can all emulate a quick labour like the one you had. That would be fab x

And Janie - glad your little baby is back to kicking you.

So am feeling a bit crap at the mo. Have gone really massive in the last couple of weeks and getting horrid stretching pains. If one more person sucks their teeth when I tell them I am only 25 weeks I will cry. My midwife has given me a lumbar support which helps a bit but finding walking for more than a few minutes difficult, and my job is so physical finding it tough already - not so much the scanning you lovely pregnant ladies but all the other patients I have to scan in the other part of my job - who tend to be infirm. I am knackered. And as I am sat here i am getting shooting pains. Aargh! So thinking of putting my mat leave back to 34 weeks (well 35 plus hols I have). Feel like an epic failure. Don't know why I feel so bad about this - i guess cos a lot of my colleagues have made it much further an I feel like some sort of wimp.
Have any of you lovely ladies that have had babies before had a blip like this early on and did it get better or should I resolve myself to the the fact that I am gonna have a crap pregnancy?

On the plus side I just nicked one of my mum'x maxi dresses and my boobs look ace.

Sorry about the epic post after such a long absence!

GardenWorm · 01/08/2013 22:26

You are definitely not a failure Bod, every pregnancy is different and you really shouldn't upset yourself by comparing yours with others. I worked till the last minute BUT my last pregnancy was easy apart from swollen feet and I was sitting at a desk! Your job sounds like it can be physically demanding and you are in a lot of pain. The last thing you want to do is keep pushing yourself because you feel like you should be working till the last minute - think how peeved you'd be if you did and then caused further damage. Chill and if you need to speak to your bosses about your workload and it's demands. They have to do something about it, health and safety and all that malarky. Don't be a martyr, you want to be as well as you can after giving birth so focus on taking it easy when you need to and don't be afraid to ask for help.

....Great that the hooters are looking hot too Grin

BumpKitty · 01/08/2013 22:37

myrtle sorry you are still in limbo, hoping it's for the best possible reason xx

bod I'm around the same number of weeks as you and just lately I have been getting the bad stretching pains when walking any distance at all, I had to carry my bump the other day! From what I remember it did get better after this bit in my pg with DD. What is the lumbar support like? Does it go around and under the front of your bump? I have a stretchy bump support from mothercare (3 years ago!) and that really makes a difference. I think things may well get more comfortable for you after all the ligaments have stretched but you have a physically demanding job and you must look after yourself and not feel bad if you need to stop earlier than you had planned.

pixie I vote for psychic toddler Grin

JBrd · 01/08/2013 22:43

Bod I agree with garden - don't compare yourself with others, do what's right for you! I finished work at 34 weeks with DS, and it was heavenly! I was working in a lab at the time, and constant moving around, working at the bench, having to go up and down stairs got incredibly hard towards the end.
Have a word with your boss about managing your workload.

I had my booking appointment today, and I don't know how the mw managed it, but she got the EPU to offer me an early reassurance scan! On Sunday! I am completely gobsmacked - when I asked for it, I never in a million years expected anything to come of it! I know all too well from experience that the EPU doesn't 'just' scan you, unless there is an obvious issue (and even then sometimes they don't)!

But I am completely terrified. In my head, I had 5 more weeks in blissful ignorance until I had to face the truth, now it's 3 days....

Bodicea · 01/08/2013 23:18

Thanks guys you are all so nice.
Bump I have a stretchy one too from jojomamnbebe which is a bit of a help and is good under casual clothes/dresses. The lumbar support is a bit more substantial. It wraps around lower back and fastens at the front underneath the bump. It had been helpful the last couple of days but worry about relying on it. I know what you mean about carrying bump.
It makes me feel better if you think it might be temporary. Might sit it out and see if things improve before altering my mat leave date but def gonna go at least a week earlier than what I said.
Not sure what I can do about workload. Think I might try and get the rather scarce HCAs around to help me a bit more.
I know I shouldn't compare myself to to others. I just didn't envisage that I would need to go so early. I have always been such a worker bee type. Never go off sick etc. I stupidly thought I would breeze through pregnancy!

Jbird yay for the scan. On a sunday hey? you wouldn't catch me working on a sunday! lol. They must be on overtime!

Bodicea · 01/08/2013 23:21

but maybe 34 weeks would be bliss like you said Jbird! did you do lots of nice stuff to keep you occupied?

IBelieveInPink · 02/08/2013 07:34

Oh bod you poor love.
I am also 25weeks (well, tomorrow) and I have also hit a bit of a wall this week. The stretching pains have had me panicking and running to knicker check - I sneezed the other day and burst into tears as a muscle pulls and I thought I had hurt baby. So that has brought me down a bit as I thought I was past all that now. Guess won't be until baby here.
Also, my hips are getting worse too.not quite as bad as yours yet, but then I sit at a desk all day. Wakes me up several times a night, because I have to change position. I've been so tired because of this I went to bed at 8.30 last night!
I completely understand what you mean about feeling like a failure, I have sailed through so far and this last week really caught me off guard. But as DH said last night, growing a person is work!
I can't imagine how I would cope if I was in my feet all day, I suspect I would be much the same. If you need to go a bit earlier, definitely do it. Or, as someone else has suggested, your work have to make 'reasonable adjustments' for you. These are far more than most people expect, such as shorter working hours, (but be careful about mat pay with reduced hours) and moving you to a sitting down job, even if there isn't really one there. They need to make allowances for you.

Ooh bit of an essay sorry. Hope it helps!

BlackholesAndRevelations · 02/08/2013 07:44

Bod- don't feel like a failure if you have to go earlier. There was a thread on here recently about this. Someone said you are entitled to 52 weeks and it's up to you how you use them. Technically you're allowed to leave at 29 weeks so imagine that, four more weeks of work. It's obviously necessary for some people or it wouldn't be an option. Sod what people think (though I'm sure no one would think badly of you!); if you're struggling, you're struggling.

I was going to work later to help my jobshare partner out but now wondering if I will just go when I wanted to (34 weeks) as I think I'm going to be struggling with two small children and a big bump!

BlackholesAndRevelations · 02/08/2013 07:51

Actually just looked at dates and if I go at half term ill only be 33 weeks when mat pay starts! What do you think, ladies who are already mums: easier working part time or being at home with two little ones and a bump?!

Thundercatsarego · 02/08/2013 11:05

Congratulations gary!

Just popping in to say hi. Have been in hiding the past week or so as struggling a bit. Have got specialist appointment through for next Friday and booking in tues/weds. Don't know if I'll be offered an early scan and feel frightened either way!

bod sorry you're having a tough time. I agree with the others- do what is best only for you and baby. Sod everything else x

Good to hear from you gary very impressed at going out already and without DS2 Smile, they do say everything is difference second time round and you are more relaxed, are you finding that is true? I?ve added your little boy to the stats, does he have a name yet and are you willing to share?

Sorry to read of your pains bump and pink I finished at 35w last time (was working alternate days from home from abt 22w tho) and couldn?t have gone any further am hoping for 36w this time but my PGP is kicking in, couldn?t move this morning Sad so who knows! Just do what you have got to do, PG is so tough on your body (for some) you have to just go with it I think.

I haven't got over my meltdown on Tues, am still all emotional, starting to really worry about the labour Sad

shellsocks · 02/08/2013 13:21

oooo top of the list anda Grin

andadietcoke · 02/08/2013 13:48

Argh. Top of the list!! That's scary. I've finished work today. As well as all the other stuff they bought me on afternoon tea day they've bought us two bouncers and a ridiculously expensive twin feeding pillow that made me wince every time I thought about ordering it. They ordered in bacon butties, had Buck's Fizz and prosecco and sent everyone home at 12. They are very lovely!

So that's finishing at 34w. To be honest, a few weeks ago I couldn't imagine still being here at 34w I was so achey, so maybe things will improve Bod?

IBelieveInPink · 02/08/2013 15:15

Aww diet your place sounds lovely! Can I have them please?

BumpKitty · 02/08/2013 15:51

Ah anda I love your work colleagues :) happy last day!

shell sorry you are feeling so fragile, it's those pesky hormones. I find head in the sand ostrich style is the best approach to labour!

blackhole really depends on your job ( are you a teacher?) but for me work is definitely easier than looking after just one DC! In fact I'm a bit put out that my maternity leave will start on half term - so no childcare! I think I'll get DH to book some time off to help.

Good luck for the scan jbrd I'm glad you have such an effective midwife, and at least it's only 3 days pre scan doom, could have been worse.

When does the third trimester start?

IBelieveInPink · 02/08/2013 16:24

Not sure bump? One of my apps says 27weeks, one says 28 weeks?

Lieslvontrapp · 02/08/2013 16:33

Guff good news you've got your scan date through!

Myrtle so sorry you're still in limbo. Hopefully next week you'll know what's happening.

Jbrd good luck for the reassurance scan on Sunday. It's great your midwife sorted it for you.

Thunder wondered where you got to! Good luck with booking in next week.

Bod sorry you're struggling with work. Like others have said maybe speak to them and see if they can make some changes to make it easier for you,

Anda your work sounds great. Sounds like they spoilt you. Must be a popular lady.

Well one more week until my scan. Seems ages! My waist line is different each day but so far I think it's not big enough for anyone to notice so hopefully my secrets safe for a bit longer.

shellsocks · 02/08/2013 16:34

Mine says 25w Grin who knows then! 26w is 6 months so that's would actually make some sense?

What a lovely way to finish anda emotional I bet Smile

GuffSmuggler · 02/08/2013 19:18

Happy last day anda! What lovely work colleagues. Now DON'T nest, put your feet up!!

Great news they can scan you so soon jbrd, I know what you mean, part of me wanted to continue in blissful ignorance before my 7 week scan but it's will be good to know what's going on.

BumpKitty · 02/08/2013 20:29

I just had a flash back of me, on hands and knees, collecting leaves and general detritus off my garage floor at about 40 weeks pg! Nesting does odd things to you, I wonder if DD appreciated the clean floor!

BlackholesAndRevelations · 02/08/2013 20:48

Woop woop for starting mat leave, Anda! Those babies will be here before you know it, eek! Resting sounds like a good idea!

Yes I'm a teacher of five and six year olds but actually it's still probably easier than two toddlers! Grin

Jbrd- fab news about the scan! X

Rockchick1984 · 02/08/2013 22:05

Black don't start your mat leave until the day you're due back in work after half term - gives you an extra week off fully paid!
