Every year my extended family take a weeks holiday somewhere in the UK. For the past 15 years we have driven around four or five hours out to a big house and stayed for a week.

I've just had my BFP and am trying to work out an EDD and I think it will be three weeks after we return from the holiday.

We already have DD who will be 2.2 around the edd.

Ifdh, dd and I stay home, everyone who we would leave her with for labour will be away that week, not that that is the sole reason for going, just makes staying behind a logistical difficulty.

I was 40+2 when dd was born and have no reason yet to suspect this one would be early. I need to pay up for the holiday within the month but not planning on sharing pg news for another two months.

The thought of being able to totally relax for a week is really appealing so late in pg.

What if I told youdh cant drive? I'm ok about driving up but if I give birth while there I may not be able to drive home. I suppose there are plenty of drivers going.

Could you not choose somewhere closer to home eg 2 hours away instead of 4-5?

Yes go. If you are well and no problems then it might be the perfect thing with lots of other people to look after you dd while you have a nap or sit down. If there are problems people will understand if you pull out later on. Yes take your notes, car seat and bags but also remember that if you have it that early you may be in a few days so maybe get details of a travel lodge or similar in case dh and dd need to stay on at the end of the holiday. Don't over pack though as shops will be open if it does happen.

And if they haven't booked the venue yet, could you ask for somewhere a bit nearer your home this year and/or within easy reach of somewhere with a good hospital (maybe a city with a teaching hospital?)

Also be careful sitting in the car for so long. Went to a wedding at 37 weeks. Drove 4 hours there and 4 hours back. Waters broke three days later and DD had turned back to back when she hadn't previously been that way round. I don't think the journey caused my waters to break but I think all the sitting meant she turned round.

I wouldn't worry about car logistics. They can be managed even if you have to temporarily insure someone else

Definitely go. But you need to have someone in the party step up to be designated driver! If your dh can't drive and you do need to go to hospital someone will have to drive you!!

We're going away to Dorset and ill be 36 weeks the day we come back so I have got the hospital / docs address and all my notes!!

Thanks for the responses. It is a big group, 16people. I would feel a bit guilty asking them to change the location for me, it takes long enough to get everyone to make a mutual decision, and itwould involve me telling everyone now, when iveonly just found out myself, in order that we can start looking elsewhere.

Id prefer to just agree to go in principal, and oull out at the last minute instead. Good idea about packing notes,carseat and babybag. As well as researching local hospital and travellodges.

My last labour was hard, induced after dd turned last minute and forceps, but I recovered gery well.There wil be another three couples going who both drive so if needed, my dad could drive my car back and mam could drive their car or similar.

Sorry to neg, but having had DC3 unexpectedly at 35 weeks, I wouldn't go. Statistically I'm sure the chances are slim, but I'm the anxious type

I had booked centre parcs, longleat on the cone back soon offer for 2nd week of January. I will be rescheduling as the edd is the day after holiday starts! And my 3 other dc have been born before or on edd.

It sounds like you really are looking forward to it. The pps have sorted most logistical problems so I would say go for it. You will be run ragged shortly after so make the most if it.

It is a great week, and the thought of being exc6sed to loumge around for the week really appeals. I generally cook for everyone so it would he nice to do nothing except that for a week while dh has tons of help with dd.

Right - off to google the logistical issues.

Assuming PG is not high risk or complicated, I would go - armed with my medical notes and hospital bag just in case.

If high risk or any issues I would want to be near my own hospital and consultant.

I had DS2 at 35 weeks but would still be happy to travel around then.

Definitely go I'm going to a wedding in France at 36 weeks and DC1 came at 38 weeks.

I'd ask if you can bring it forward by a month. Make some plausible but fictional excuse if you need to (but can you not confide in your mum?) Surely it would be more enjoyable for you that way anyway?

I'd go. My DCousin had a baby while staying with relatives - they hadn't been prepared and her DH had to travel home for the car seat plus panics about contacting the hospital etc.

If you know it's a possibility and you have all the right phone numbers and plans in place, it's fine!

I'm going on a holiday to Cornwall when I will be 33 weeks pregnant in about a month. I've been a bit worried about it, but I'll pack my notes and hospital bag and everything I need.

Like you, the idea of relaxing for a week is VERY appealing!

We are tied to half term - the options really are go or not. Asking people to change the date/location isnt as there is quite a list of requiremenrs

Like pp. I had dc2 unexpectedly at 36 weeks. Was planning to go to a wedding at 37 weeks ( hotel booked, smart maternity dress found) and of course it didn't happen!

We're going on a short break a 5 hour drive away when I am 36 weeks. Will take car seat, notes and hosp bag just in case and cross my fingers that the old wives tale about first babies being late is true.
I'm 34 weeks now and in good health, if I wasn't feeling so chipper I may have been reconsidering at this point.

I would go! The baby may well be early, but you'd have plenty of support and you would work out the logistics with the car. It sounds like a wonderful relaxing holiday - go for it!
