Hyperemesis Support

We need a new thread.

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

Hey all - my reprieve seems to be lasting - 3 days now! Was mildly barfy last night but nothing major. Am eating almost normally and don't want to go near the scales as I don't want to see the numbers moving up.. although I know it is inevitable.

Like Champagne and Fee I am 16 weeks, due in Feb. Maybe it is easing off a little.

Also I always thought I would have 2 but I don't know if I can ever do this again....

By the way, does anyone get a low ache in their abdomen? I wonder is it stuff shifting about inside?

jenpatnim · 01/09/2013 14:20

Also forgot to say - I had that restlessness with cyclizine.

MurderOfGoths · 01/09/2013 14:21

jen Does it feel like you've been doing sit ups and pulled the muscles? I've had that for days, last time I wrote it off as pain from retching so much.

jenpatnim · 01/09/2013 14:22

Yes! That is what it feels like! And if you sit down too hard or anything it jars a little?

MurderOfGoths · 01/09/2013 14:37

Yes, that's it! No clue what it is, but it is damn uncomfortable, hurts more if I lie straight.

ye murder i can keep stuff down. its not like the early weeks but its just pants. it really is. me and pregnancy do not mix well!!!
oh Jen didn't realise you were Feb too.... are you finding out the sex? i have a gender scan booked for Fri as too impatient to wait!!
liking your thinking champagne. the way i have laid it out is x factor started this weekend which means we are technically in the run up to xmas, then i will only have a couple of more weeks at work then mat leave starts and bubs will be due within 3 weeks. doesn't sound so bad that way!!

Sally8655 · 01/09/2013 18:51

Hi all

Fee- I'm ok ish, just finished puking my guts up but bearing up I suppose. I'm nearly 19 weeks now and longing for January when this ordeal will be over. Scan soon too!! Did you have your gender scan? Xx

Champagne - I'm so pleased its lovely and cold now too. I love having a cold nose but being cosy in my blanket. Dh has banned me opening the windows though :-( can't wait for winter walks xx

I'm just out of hospital today. Had a major blow to belly and after scans etc, I've had a anti-d injection and back home. Think all is ok with babs after all he/she is punching away. Probably saying here you have one too :-)

Purchased my first baby items online from argos and mother care sales. So pleased with all my bargains I was able to tick off my essentials list! If anybody feels up to looking there were cot projectors in argos for £5! All my things were mamas and papas etc for under £10.

Thoughts are with others still in a real bad way and newcomers welcome but sorry your here too.

Xxx

Sally8655 · 01/09/2013 18:52

Sorry fee, cross posted. Excited for Friday for you!!

LucindaE · 01/09/2013 20:08

Dilsa Welcome, well, as you are a doctor I don't need to say 'have you got kesostix' you know that side and the dangers of dehydration better than me! Sorry you are suffering. I hope it eases off soon for you. I think the worst case on here was wavesandsmiles but somehow she got through, maybe she'll be on here to give some tips.

Sally A blow to the belly? Oh, dear, that sounds nasty, I'm glad all is OK. Could it be the strain of that making the puking come back worse?
Feekerry
I hope the scan really gives you a boost, sorry about relapse.
Jen Ah, it was you who had the sleeplessness with cyclazine? I'm glad the improvement continues.
Champagne I am glad things aren't too bad.
MOG Grin Oh dear, grotesquely funny about leg moving itself. Some imagination. wavesandsmiles Used to freeze those things, fortisip? Into ice lollies.
Meerka Hamwedge and everyone How are things?
If people put down their due dates, we can have a list. Lots of people seem to be due in February.
Sorry to Anyone rudely ignored.

Lucinda, yes it was me. Interestingly although there is nothing written about that as a side effect, one of my midwives at the hospital told me it had the same effect on her.... so I'm not a total weirdo.

Fee - I am due 15/02 - which is my birthday! Scan is on 30th Sep at the hospital, and this hospital do tell you the gender, so I am ok to wait. I also ordered a doppler (£20 on Amazon) so I can hear the heartbeat.

I went shopping today, looking 'back to school' trousers as mine are all too big. Tried on a pair 2 sizes smaller than normal that fit but probably not for long and they were all tight in the tummy. So I went home and ordered a bunch of maternity things online (NewLook) - a coat for winter, work trousers, black skinny jeans and some leggings. I have loads of floaty tops as that is my work look anyway. So excited, will feel properly pregnant then! Ha.

Then came home (was at my parents' for the afternoon) and got some washing and ironing done! Only started to feel a bit dodgy at 10.30, then I realised I was supposed to take metaclopramide at 7 - oops. Guess I do still need the meds. But it was nice to have some energy and get stuff done. If I didn't have to get up so early I'd be up late ploughing through the mountain of washing that has piled up. Hopefully OH will continue with it tomorrow for me (he works shifts, is on tomorrow night).

Other minor annoyance is that I have been so focused on the antiemetics that I completely forgot to take my (very scaled down dose of) antidepressants for the last few days and am now enjoying the brain zaps that come with withdrawal. The joys. I must say that although the HG has been horrendous, the pregnancy hormones have protected me from my pervasive clinical depression, allowing me to scale down to the lowest possible dose with no symptoms. I won't say the HG hasn't got to me, but there is a big difference being annoyed/upset about something that is going on and having an episode of clinical depression.

That's been my day - I am still kind of energised from all my housework! Off to collect OH from work then bed to try to sleep before I hit work in the morning.

Love and hugs to all - really hope that whatever is helping me comes very soon to you all........ and thanks again to Lucinda for keeping us all going.

LucindaE · 02/09/2013 08:52

Champage Jen and Everyone I am glad to be able to do a small bit towards helping women through this dreadful ordeal!
Jen I am impressed you got so much done, forgot meds, etc. It is lovely to hear that several of you are a lot better.
So we have, with details so far:

Hyperemesis Graduation Dates
(note; some are going for a post grad, having had it once already!)

Sally ? January*
Champagne 11 February
Jen 15 February
Dilsa 15 March*

I fully understand that if some people have had prior miscarriages, they would have a bad feeling about giving their due dates, I know I did.

Back soon.

My EDD is 31st March, amusingly DS's EDD was 1st April.

Not doing so well today, you know that stitch like pain? It got a lot worse last night and hasn't gone away. I've called 111 who've told me I need to see my GP but their phones are ringing out. So loads of pain and no idea what to do.

Sally8655 · 02/09/2013 09:41

Lucinda- I'm due 23rd jan xx

Sally8655 · 02/09/2013 09:44

MOG- are you able to contact your maternity assessment unit directly? Just to ask them for some advice. I find this so much easier than ringing GP all the time and they are so much more clued up with all pregnancy stuff than my doctors surgery. They do usually ask me to come in but they are really efficient.

Totesamazeballs · 02/09/2013 09:57

Second that Sally. Better to get hold of the midwives if you can and they will probably just do a check.

I have felt better. Sick a few times in the night - even a glass of squash which I bravely had at 4am!

Had a lolly and nectarine for breakfast. The latter is not nice puking material. I do not recommend! [hmmm]

Sally8655 · 02/09/2013 12:25

Totes- pleased your a little better :-)
I'm trying to go through today without meds!!! So far only puked once while trying to get dressed. So I'm now still in bed in pjs. I've eaten half a grapefruit and a packet of crisps so we'll see how I go. Wanted to try as I'm mostly just sick in the evenings and not sure how much the tablets are working now, so if its not much worse off the meds I'd rather go without. My midwife at my last appointment was like "your really still taking them" so maybe it's best to try now.

Totesamazeballs · 02/09/2013 12:37

Thanks Sally - ironically I meant I feel worse...something went wrong in my typing head! I am trying without meds too but everything is coming back up, even ice lollies. I feel strangely better off without them though, even though I can't keep stuff down. Less groggy perhaps? And also, I think I feel better immediately after a puke, whereas the dry wretching on the metoclopramide makes me feel worse and worse.

I hope you can get off them though. Fingers crossed Smile

Dilsa1 · 02/09/2013 12:54

Hey all-when im off the meds- everything comes up but I feel better not being on my meds too. It gets too difficult without keeping a single thing down so I cave and go back to them. Im fearful of eating, every time I do my stomach churns and I feel so sick. It takes real mind control to try and keep it down and even then I mostly fail. Im having yet another day where im in bed and I just want to cry but im so numb to this now that even tears arent coming out as easily.....Im mainly nauseous with some vomiting when it used to be both full time hence admitted twice so I guess in that sense im better- doesnt feel good though, just seems as hard! X

feekerry · 02/09/2013 13:12

12th edd here x

MurderOfGoths · 02/09/2013 13:28

Alright, want to know what stupid thing caused so much pain? Fecking indigestion! Pregnancy sucks so fucking much.

Dilsa I was the same, hence being put on the steroids. In a lot of ways I found the nausea harder to deal with than the vomiting.
