Hyperemesis Support

We need a new thread.

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

Champagne and our hospitalised members, how are things this morning (silly question of a morning Envy? I hope RNJ 's baby takes heed of her/his mother's admonitions to stay inside a bit longer...

Hi all, just checking in. How we all doing?
I hope things are looking up.
I'm 32 weeks now and feeling a bit low. Things feel like they're just all going a bit wrong (small things that build up) and when you put that ontop of 6 months of nausea, it feels a bit hard to cope today. After a car accident the week before last (and an overnight stay in hosp for my anti-D topup), finally finishing our kitchen to have the fridgefreezer breakdown yesterday after a 12 hour day out the house in 30 degrees for work.... Fedup :( Could do with the magic nausea cure..... maybe 8 weeks away?

Beccadugs · 23/07/2013 10:07

Oh Fl0b0t what a nightmare for you...

Luckily they didn't keep me in hosp. I had two lovely bags of flyids, a lovely anti sickness jab, and got to come home!

I also got a scan! The doctor was worried about a molar pregnancy apparently, as the hormone levels can rocket in that case. But all is well, and I am a week further along than I thought so maybe the sickness will do quicker!

Feeling rough today, haven't made it out of bed, luckily DH was here to remove this mornings bucket!!

LittleMachine · 23/07/2013 10:31

Hi everyone. Signing in for my second HG pregnancy, wish I'd been on mumsnet when I had my first.

I'm 6+3, and have just started cyclizine. I'm hoping I'll avoid hospital this time round.

Becca, I thought I might see you here, hope you're feeling better after your magic fluids.

Beccadugs · 23/07/2013 10:36

Hi little, sorry you are suffering. I came over here as I didn't want to keep bumming everyone out on the antenatal thread! Fluids certainly helped overall, the rest of me not feeling like a shrivelled old raisin has help with coping with the queasiness!

LittleMachine · 23/07/2013 10:45

Thanks Becca, I feel quite positive at the moment. In my last pregnancy, I couldn't see beyond the sickness, but now I know how wonderful it is having a baby at the end of it all. I have also asked for intervention at an earlier stage so fingers crossed I'll manage it better. Did the hospital give you meds to come home with?

Beccadugs · 23/07/2013 11:11

Oh yes, hundreds! They haven't worked so far, but finding out I'm 8weeks not 7 has given me a bit of a boost, as it might end sooner!

hello ladies.
sorry to see some of you are in hospital and sally they are being shit to you... i find it bizzare that the levels of care vary so much from hospital to hospital.
my hospital is like a hotel couldn't have been nicer. i can understand why you would rather be at home.
hang on in there rjn the end is close!

so i have my mid wife booking in appt tomorrow... really interested to see what happens as i am under consultant care this time apparently due to prev emcs. i want an elective this time so will be v interested to see if i am just granted one or whether i have to argue my case like i have read alot of people do.
to be honest i wouldn't be massively bothered either way but would like to know from an early stage which it is to be so if i have to have a vbac i have enough time to get my useless at giving birth body ready!!

LucindaE · 23/07/2013 19:46

LittleMachine Welcome, sorry you are suffering but I'm glad you are on meds early, which indicates they are taking it seriously. You'll find everyone on here very nice for sure.
Flo Oh you poor thing, I am so sorry that nausea hasn't gone away, and now it's still there at 32 weeks. Are you still bravely going in to work on public transport, too? Hugs. Sorry about accident, what is , sorry for ignorance 'D' topup?
Becca I'm glad you've got lots of meds and had fluids and injection. Thanks goodness it isn't molar, that must be a nightmare. Lovely OH to empty bucket.
Feekerry Best of luck with midwife appointment and about elective.
Champagne I am glad you are keeping some waters in, and I hope it was a virus. A temperature in this weather doesn't bear thinking about.
Sally Have they released you yet? I still can't get over their being stupid enough not to give you a [green] basin.
Hope RNJ and wavesandsmiles and Jen and Everyone is OK.

Hey guys - hope everyone is keeping ok, just reading up. Welcome to LittleMachine, hope you get through it all ok.

I had a reprieve today - about 2 hours nausea free. I was at a friend's house, and it was amazing. Sadly it didn't last, but it was great in that short time. Other than that, still taking the tablets and struggling to eat. Have just had some soup today - not a lot.

Hugs to all

Sally8655 · 23/07/2013 22:02

Hi everybody

Im back home now. Feeling pretty emotional as today I had to undergo a vq scan on my lungs. I didn't realise how serious it was until I was in the room being told to breath radiation and having it injected into my arm.
Although told by several doctors that the risks are low, there is still a risk to baby and myself.
Then to top it off, when I told my mum what I had, she freaked out and reminded me that I had something similar when I was younger so I've had a double dose. The risks are apparently breast cancer for me and many to the baby.
Feel awful and extremely guilty for going through with it. Wish I said no before they started. Ill never forgive myself if anything is wrong later.

I'm also pretty sick right now and have vomited my entire stomach contents. Only able to stick with sips of water.
At least I'm home and in my own bed.

LucindaE · 24/07/2013 10:02

Sally Oh, poor you, how awful to have this worry. Surely it was on your medical records? Surely they must have given you reassurance rather than made you anxious about the baby? Is there any expert you can discuss this with? Of course, the tension will make the sickness even worse. I know people who've had X Rays not knowing they were pregnant, and kids now ten or so and no problems so far.

Thanks for the welcome.

I haven't managed to catch up on the whole thread yet, but I'm sorry you're having such a horrible time Sally it sounds awful. Sad

fl0b0t · 24/07/2013 12:47

Hi Lucinda- still on the trains (and a few busses when I'm really lucky). The heat isn't helping (thank god for those air conditioned trains when it works)- I was almost sick on a lady on the bus the other day. I was feeling really hot and bothered and she got on wearing knee high leather boots in 30 degree heat. It tipped me over!!

Anti-D injection is just as I'm A- blood type, so to stop my body rejecting future pregnancies of baby turns out to be a + blood type, you have to have antibody injections. You have to have a top up if you experience a "sensitising event" (Where mum and babies blood could mix) i,e abdominal trauma after a fall or car accident. So fun night in hospital waiting for them to order the injection :-S

Feeling a bit more positive after a good chat with the husband- when he realised I'd been nauseous for 6 months he was very sympathetic!

feekerry · 24/07/2013 12:54

little how old is your first dc now?
i too on my second hg pregnancy. dd is 16m. how are you finding it with dc already?
i am finding it really hard!

Sally8655 · 24/07/2013 19:03

Hi
Just a quick message as I'm so sick right now and can't seem to stop throwing up :-(

Lucinda- you would have thought they would check medical history but obviously didn't. Doesn't fill me with a whole lot of confidence in my maternity unit.
Spoke with a few doctors who have all told me its best not to have radiation due to the risks, but hospital were so pushy with me to have it done saying the benefits far outweigh the risk.
The radiation I had was about 15 times more than a standard chest x ray.
Right now I just need to focus on not being sick and trying to drink some water as I'm really sick. Going to try not to think about it.

Hugs to everybody else feeling poorly xxx

Feekerry How did appointment go?

appt went okay thanks lucinda tho i will be silver star care this time due to the hg and that my bmi was 17.5 which is below the threshold for what they class is under weight. also apparently i have a thyroid problem as well.... maybe due to hg? i need it checked every 4 weeks.
i thought thyroid problems were mainly linked to weight gain tho so unsure why or what the problem is.
oh and should be no issue getting a elec cs so that's one good thing.....

feekerry · 24/07/2013 21:23

sally and champagne im sorry you feel so ill.
champagne do you only take cyclizne? not ondansatron too?

currently i am taking cyclizine, ondamsatron and also meteaclopimide (sp?!)
the combination of the 3 has been the most successful so far.....x

RNJ3007 · 24/07/2013 21:26

Hi all,

Sending my sympathies. This heat is not helping one bit, argh!

I'm about to hit 35w, but the stress of Grandma passing yesterday means my BP shot up again. In for another CTG etc tomorrow. Hoping I can stay calm for that. 185/90 w not good today.

Not kept anything down since Monday, except water and some flat fanta. About to try some melon and raspberries. Just want to crawl into bed and not get up until bub is here. Can't face the world. Which is no good for DD, bless her, who has 1 more week of nursery before leaving. Got to pull myself together for her.

Rnj- really feel for you. So much going on while your this unwell. How did you get on with the fruit?

Fee- nice to know the combination of the three meds is working for you. I'm back to taking both my cyclizine and ondansetron again at full doses but its not staying down. I do have metoclopramide but don't fancy having to add another drug to my long list. If I become desperate I might give if a go to see if it helps me too.

Champagne- the ondansetron is definitely more efficient, especially combined with another drug. This really helped me to eat some over the really bad weeks.
Think I'm struggling more now due to stress and maybe picked up a bug in hospital as this sickness feels different to usual. However like I said the ondansetron helps about 80% of the time for me usually and is better than cyclizine alone.

Well, I checked on the scales and I've lost another 4lb so far this week, not good considering its only Thursday. My consultant at the hospital told me she wasn't too worried about weight loss but, I really am. It's not without trying to eat some either, I just keep throwing it straight back up.

Does anybody know at what stage the not keeping any food down becomes more of an issue? I was told by the hospital that in the first 12 weeks the baby just takes its nutrition from you, but now it is using the placenta I'm worried that baby is not getting enough nutrients.
