Is this true or false? Usually first babies are due late? And are boys usually lazier than girls for lateness?

My first was a boy and 16 days late!

MooseBeTimeForSpring · 18/06/2013 20:11

My boy was over two weeks late and had to be forcibly evicted after he refused to respond to the notice to leave Smile

AuntieBrenda · 18/06/2013 20:11

False. DS was two weeks early. And he weighed 9 5. I'm a size 10 and slim hipped. Goodness knows how much bigger he'd have got if he'd lasted another fortnight. I could barely bloody walk as it was.

rowtunda · 18/06/2013 20:11

False - I thought this way and was sure I was going to go over due. DS arrived at 38 weeks - a month earlier than I had mentally prepared for!

cupcake78 · 18/06/2013 20:11

My first was 5 days over. 39 weeks with second and convinced it won't come till after due date.

I really want to be proven wrong!

AKissIsNotAContract · 18/06/2013 20:12

The 2 friends I have who gave birth to their firsts most recently were both 4 weeks early, one was a boy and one a girl.

RikeBider · 18/06/2013 20:12

I've not heard there's a gender difference, but iirc first time pregnancies for causcasian women are 41 weeks 1 day on average.

TangfasticMrFoxalastic · 18/06/2013 20:13

My boy was born 39+4, quite punctual :)

RedlipsAndSlippers · 18/06/2013 20:13

DD was two weeks early, waiting to see if the boy thing is true!

cravingcake · 18/06/2013 20:14

My DS arrived at 38+4 and 8lb 2oz, and he was fully cooked.

fufflebum · 18/06/2013 20:17

Dd born day after due date, just like ds!

snozzlemaid · 18/06/2013 20:18

My ds was born at 37+2.
Dd was 37+3.
Midwife said I must cook my babies in 37 weeks.

kissmyshineymetalass · 18/06/2013 20:18

My 1st was 16 days early and 6lb 8oz and born just 15 mins after I got to the hospital it was a very quick labour/delivery Shock

motherinferior · 18/06/2013 20:19

Mine was two days early.

NotSoNervous · 18/06/2013 20:19

False DD was almost 3 weeks early

TheCountessOlenska · 18/06/2013 20:19

My girl was 5 days late, my boy was 3 days late.

It seems to me (from experiences of friends/family) that first pregnancies go overdue more often than not... but you never know OP Smile

littlestgirlguide · 18/06/2013 20:19

My first was a girl 10 days late.

badguider · 18/06/2013 20:20

Yes. Somebody has already said that 41+1 is the mist common arrival date for first babies born to white British women.

ShoeWhore · 18/06/2013 20:20

My 3 boys were all early - 38wks, 39wks, 37wks.

TolliverGroat · 18/06/2013 20:21

True that they are late more often than they are early, but that still leaves a lot of room for indivisual first babies to be early (mine was 2 days early).

3 weeks early

Snowflakepie · 18/06/2013 20:23

On average first babies are 8 days overdue. Subsequent babies 4 days overdue, according to statistics. So due dates are a whole heap of .

There will always be exceptions, as with any random event. DD was 2 days early. DS is currently 1 day late. Don't think sex has anything to do with it, and also resent the whole 'boys are lazy' thing. They come when they're ready.

RenterNomad · 18/06/2013 20:24

My DS was 10 days early.

Anecdotal evidence has already disproved any "always", but if you want properly calculated probabilities, ask your midwife, GP, the NCT....?

learnasyougo · 18/06/2013 20:24

sixteen days late, and even then it took two sweeps and synto drip to get him moving.
