True or false? First babies are normally late?

Is this true or false? Usually first babies are due late? And are boys usually lazier than girls for lateness?

False. DS was two weeks early. And he weighed 9 5. I'm a size 10 and slim hipped. Goodness knows how much bigger he'd have got if he'd lasted another fortnight. I could barely bloody walk as it was.

False - I thought this way and was sure I was going to go over due. DS arrived at 38 weeks - a month earlier than I had mentally prepared for!

My first was 5 days over. 39 weeks with second and convinced it won't come till after due date.

I really want to be proven wrong!

The 2 friends I have who gave birth to their firsts most recently were both 4 weeks early, one was a boy and one a girl.

I've not heard there's a gender difference, but iirc first time pregnancies for causcasian women are 41 weeks 1 day on average.

My boy was born 39+4, quite punctual :)

It seems to me (from experiences of friends/family) that first pregnancies go overdue more often than not... but you never know OP

Yes. Somebody has already said that 41+1 is the mist common arrival date for first babies born to white British women.

My 3 boys were all early - 38wks, 39wks, 37wks.

True that they are late more often than they are early, but that still leaves a lot of room for indivisual first babies to be early (mine was 2 days early).

There will always be exceptions, as with any random event. DD was 2 days early. DS is currently 1 day late. Don't think sex has anything to do with it, and also resent the whole 'boys are lazy' thing. They come when they're ready.

Anecdotal evidence has already disproved any "always", but if you want properly calculated probabilities, ask your midwife, GP, the NCT....?
