Hi all

I am 33 weeks. Weighed myself today and I have gained 3 stone! Gone from 9 and a half to 12 and a half. I know it doesn't matter really but people have been telling me all day how big I am and I feel like s*it Sad. Just letting off steam, feel free to ignore me Smile

It sucks. I remember having moments of feeling awful about the weight gain. But that's really not a bad gain at all, that's pretty much the same as mine and I had hyperemesis for the first 25 weeks! (though I think I ate my own body weight in food once I was able to eat again Grin) But remember it's not just the baby, it's all the blood and amniotic fluid and the placenta.

schmaddington · 27/05/2013 21:39

Thanks for all the kind words. Wonder how much I'll gain in the last 7 weeks. Must try not to weigh myself again!

Naebother · 27/05/2013 21:43

Please do not weigh yoursrlf. You know you will lose most of it when your baby arrives?

You need a bit extra anyway if you plan to bf.
I put on 4 stone with ds2 and it was gone by the time he was 6 months without trying.
Don't worry. Enjoy your pregnancy.

Reply to people who say you're big with " yeah. I'm PREGNANT"

I lost 2 stone by about day 4 after DD was born. Fastest diet of my life ;) Don't worry too much about it!

HairyLittleCarrot · 27/05/2013 22:22

pregnancy 1: started at 8.5 and went up to 12.5
pregnancy 2: started at 9.5 and went up to 13.ohmygodstopweighingthisistooscaryi'maheffalump

returned to 9.5 and havent dieted to get there. I am a firm believer that your body dictates your weight in pregnancy and you can go with it or spend a lot of time horrified. I'm pretty slovenly about food, but my body seems fairly happy to sort itself out on its own. hopefully same for you too!

TinkyPeet · 27/05/2013 22:48

Aw Hun. With dd I stopped weighing myself at 30 weeks because I had put on 6 (yes, 6!!) stone.......which I wouldn't have minded if it was self inflicted but I had bad HG and every ailment that comes with pregnancy, so I wasn't actually eating much! Yeah that was shit.....
Thankfully this time I have only put on about a stone and a smidge so far (32.3) xx

pumpkinsweetie · 27/05/2013 22:52

Aww hun, do not worry. This is normal, remember baby and placenta weigh a substantial amount as does the waters.
Enjoy this special time in your life, most of the weight will be gone when baby comes anyway and you will then have only a small amount to lose.

cupcake78 · 28/05/2013 02:54

I've put on nearly 4 stone at 36 weeksHmm. But there is not a great deal I can do about it! I've had HG since week 6 and needed to continually eat to function and not pass out. This still hasn't gone, if I get hungry I feel very ill. Spd kicked in at 18 weeks, now on crutches and immobile. Baby is measuring very big.

With ds I only put on a stone and half. I lost 2 stone in the first week. 1st 7lbs instantly, the rest was water retention.

So I'm going to need to lose it when baby comes. It's not the end of the world and I'm looking forward to having some control over my body again Grin

yogafan · 28/05/2013 08:00

Please don't worry, your body has been telling you what it needs and can self regulate and help you return to your normal weight once baby is born. I was 9 stone before DD, gained at least 3 stone (it was alarming at the time, I remember weighing myself and finding it hard to comprehend) and it all came off without me trying. Minimal exercise, lots of cake, and absolutely no dieting. Just listened to what my body needed. Dr weighed me when first found out I was preg again, back to just below 9 stone, now I'm 12 weeks I'm almost 9 1/2. Really not worrying this time, there's no point. Also, the way I see it, if I worry and stress and focus on it too much, it's more likely to become problematic - if I just eat what I need and don't obsess over it, I'll just be responding to what my body is telling me it needs. Please don't worry!

yogafan · 28/05/2013 08:07

Also, just to sympathise - it is really rubbish with everyone commenting on how big you are. I'm sure all preg women get it, and it really isn't helpful. It is an extraordinary thing that you are doing, and yes, there are some bits that don't feel glorious and easy. Feeling big, unwieldy, out of control of your body, in totally new territory with an major life change round the corner - and then the insults from everyone about how big you are - it is a challenge. It's fine and normal to feel shit sometimes, but please don't take it personally or feel that you should be doing anything different! All the best x

Hi! i am 22 carrying my first child, i walked 4 miles a day to and from work up until today as i have started my mat leave, i eat healthily, i have a chocolate bar every other day but the rest is very healthy. i have gained 22kg and felt like crying my eyes out Sad i just keep telling myself i have done everything right for the baby rather than trying to keep my weight down which could be dangerous. After he is born i will try and replace one of my daily meals with low fat soup and see if that helps. good luck x

froubylou · 28/05/2013 09:22

Just get as big as your body tells you it wants to!

I ate very little whilst pregnant with my DD 9 years ago. I survived on cereals, oranges and the occasional (maybe once a week) meal out. However I had the most chronic hearburn from about 5 months that I was frightened to eat. On top of that I worked in quite a physical job until 2 days before I had her. As a result my DD was only 5lb 12oz and I had to have growth scans for the last 10 weeks.

This time (bang on 10 weeks) I want a huge big fat bubba lol. So am not going to worry too much about how much or how little I gain as long as I and the baby are healthy.

If anyone and I mean anyone comments on how big you are and upsets you just point out that you are pregnant, growing a whole new person in your womb and if the sight of this offends them then don't look at me, feck off somewhere else and leave me be.

The weight will come off when baby is born. I walked everywhere with DD when she was in the pram, ate healthly once she was weaned and within about 8 months I was back in my normal clothes and by 12 months had gone down a size.

Our bodies are pretty good at telling us what we need so if you crave something naughty go for it and don't beat yourself up. Your body will need extra reserves to cope with the actual birthing and recovering process and BFing afterwards. Whether you intend to BF or not is irrelevant to your body lol. And if you don't want to or are not able to BF your body will get rid of the extra naturally anyway.

Go eat a bar of chocolate or piece of cake or whatever you fancy right now!

FobblyWoof · 28/05/2013 10:19

I saw people telling me I was big as just a pregnancy thing. They're not trying to say you look fat in any way. And even my previous weight aside, I was massive! For some people it's their way of saying you're looking healthy with the pregnancy- though that seems really backwards when we live in a culture of smaller the better to the extreme sometimes.

Wickedgirl · 28/05/2013 14:08

With my first and second pregnancies, I put on 3 stone. With my 3rd, I put on 4 stone. God knows how much weight ill out on this time around!

Hawkmoth · 28/05/2013 14:11

I was in the AN triage unit last week. I declined to be weighed as it's a worry I don't need!

I know someone who put seven stone on with her first pg. She was eight stone to start with. It all worked out ok in the end.

frissonpink · 28/05/2013 14:11

Exactly the same here. I was 9.7 before pregnancy and 12.7 at the end. I cried too!!

I'm now back down to 10.7 (baby is 6 months though) so still a stone to go.

TBH I think some people's bodies just naturally put on more weight in pregnancy. My friend (who's a model) put on nothing - except a beach ball at the front which then popped out!

Autumn12 · 28/05/2013 14:27

I can sympathise!

I am 30 weeks and have gained somewhere between 1.5 and 2 stone. 2 stone if I take it from the weight I was after losing a bit during the 1st trimester, 1.5 if I go by what I weighed before becoming pregnant. I had thought that I was doing ok until my Mum told me how enormous I am, and that I'm really big for how pregnant I am Sad. Now I'm feeling paranoid and really worried about how big I will be by the end.

People can be really insensitive at a time when we are struggling with our body image anyway.

afrikat · 28/05/2013 19:22

I am really trying not to worry about weight gain but I am 23 weeks I have put on about 24lbs. My friends keep telling me I am 'all boobs and bump' but I can feel my ass and thighs chunking out and I am generally feeling hefty. I am mostly eating healthily but allowing myself to indulge in the odd bit of junk (more than I usually would) and doing nowhere near as much exercise as usual so I suppose some excess weight is inevitable. I know I will lose it after the birth but am scared that by the last month I will just be enormous!

I've put on 3 stone (at 31 weeks) but I can still get into my original pants and some of my pre-preggy clothes (not jeans obviously - just the stretchy stuff like jim jams etc).

My boobs have gone from 36D to 40E and someone recently told me I look like I've swallowed a beach ball.

I have expanded sideways as well - but to be honest. I was never a supermodel anyway (5'4'' and a size 12 pre-preggy) so I don't really mourn the loss of my figure (not having much of one in the first place).

I do like my nomnoms though....

MisselthwaiteManor · 29/05/2013 19:00

I'm at a very similar number, 34 weeks and had gained about 2 and a half stone last time I checked but I've stopped checking because it doesn't really matter. It will go after the baby is born, your body will do whatever it needs to.

Ignore comments on your size because nobody else is going to be looking at you and thinking you've gained 3 stone, a massive chunk of it is baby and fluid it's not all fat, when people comment they're just being dicks for the sake of being dicks. I asked DH what he thought I had gained and his answer was something like 4lbs? Hmm after I picked myself up from the floor laughing I told him the real number and he was [shocked] [shocked] [shocked]
