I must be a grumpy moo because it is still too long for me - even though in reality it is only 7 weeks . . .

grump grump waddle waddle

Linnet · 20/03/2004 23:31

I know what you mean Libb. I've had enough and would quite happily have the baby now! Due date is still another 8 weeks away but I'm preparing myself for it to actually be 10 weeks away since first baby was late.

Still finish work in 6 weeks time so I can't complain. And still got loads to buy, better get a move on incase it arrives early, lol

kbaby · 21/03/2004 18:03

Some days I think its quite a way off and others I cant believe that its only 9 weeks and if you go early it could be as little as 6 weeks. I suppose it doesnt seem long to me as ive still got a lot of things to do, we havent decorated the nursery yet or ordered a cot. The car seat and pushchair havent arrived in stock yet either.
Plus ive only got 2 weeks left in work and then im on maternity leave. So I cant wait for some time off and plan to go to aqua natal and stuff. Although after 2 weeks off ill probably be bored stiff! and longing for the baby to arrive.
Hope everyones keeping well

hi kbaby. I'm 2 weeks away from mat leave too. cant wait. 8 weeks seems so soon for my life to be totally changing, but I have also had enough. I don't know how my skin is going to stretch any further.
hi all girls - not messaged for a while, but have been reading yours now and again.
is it just me and spots expecting our firsts? (it is spots isnt it?!)

spots · 22/03/2004 08:21

Think also kbaby and libb are first time white knuckle riders. I am also ticking days off for next two weeks till work winds up, tho I have a little work from home to keep my brain in gear (some hope) after that... April's going to be a month of long lunches, bird feeding and yoga if all goes according to plan. First baby maternity leave has to be enjoyed v-e-r-y-s-e-r-i-o-u-s-l-y I reckon.

prufrock · 22/03/2004 10:49

Definately spots - it will be the last time in your life that you can be completely lazy without feeling guilty about it so make the most of it. (Says the woman already on leave and with dd still at nursery who's just watched Trisha in bed )

Are you sure you should be working from home once on leave? Firstly you really do need to rest and enjoy the time, but secondly I think it may invalidate some of your entitlements - I would check it out with your HR dept.

GeorginaA · 22/03/2004 17:23

Well I had another scan today. Everything looking very well. Had another blood test to check bile acids are still normal but not had that back yet, so a little nervous.

The sonographer said "well I don't know what you're feeding it, but you're baby is growing VERY well" - is that code for this is going to be a HUGE baby?! I peeked a look at the scan when she was measuring the head and it said 34 weeks - is that the dating size or something?! If so, bit worrying as I'm only 31 weeks

No I'm getting the period pain cramps too... occasionally at the same time as the tightening of the tummy you get with braxton hicks so have just associated them with that, tbh. (Nearly wrote branston hicks then - would that be a new brand of pickle?!)

Am very up and down with moods at the moment. One minute I can feel really fit and healthy and looking forward to it all... ready to take on the labour with just a bit of clarysage and some dolphin music ( ) ... next minute I'm feeling tired, weepy and fed up and ready to beg them to give me a general and get it out while I'm unconscious...

prufrock · 23/03/2004 17:27

No it's not. I was going to post something very similar but couldn't really raise the energy to do so.
Cramps at least a couple of times a mes enough to make me catch my breath. Pain like a stitch on the bottom right side of my bump. Complete inability to breath properly, and I have to change position every 5 minutes. I sat down on the floor of Tescos this morning because I just couldn't stand up any more! I really don't remember it being this bad first time round.

I'm going to fold after 5 minutes of labour and scream GIVE ME THE DRUGS!... aren't I?

Not to mention the feelings of... me? be a mother of two?! I'm already dismal at being a mother of one and they're letting me have ANOTHER ONE?!

Problem is ... epidural = 3 days stay in hospital rather than escape home after 6 hours provided all is well.

Can you tell I don't like hospitals much?

Really hated the birth experience/hospital stay last time around (vaginal with epidural that wore off to push (insane, insane), ventouse, episiotomy...) so oscillating between wanting one of two extremes just so the birth experience is guaranteed different this time around (preferably better!)

Am a bit down in the dumps today anyway, which doesn't help of course. Looking forward to when my hormones are my own again!!!

I don't know, tbh. I was feeling quite philosophical when they told me yesterday.

I think in all probability it's just up and down hormone thingumies coupled with fear of childbirth. I'm guessing I'd be getting scared even if I was still in line for the homebirth... with the prospect of being induced though the labour does seem to be an awful lot closer now, whereas I've been able to dismiss it as "still a long way off" in my mind before.

I'll be bouncy and positive again tomorrow, I'm sure

Thanks for the hugs

GeorginaA · 23/03/2004 17:47

Of course, by 37/38 weeks I could well be extremely glad that it's coming out early

kbaby · 23/03/2004 18:15

Hi yes it is my first baby, Cant you tell as im completely nuerotic(dont know if thats spelt correctly, brain cells are already starting to decrease)Ive got parentcraft tonight where im to learn how to bath and change a nappy, Im sure its slightly different with a doll to a real baby, unless they're going to cover the nappy with yellow grainy mustard I dont think DH is going to learn the true joys of nappy changing.
Im hoping for some nice weather over easter, ive been to wh smiths and bought some trashy books and ive bought a new sun lounger for the garden. I plan on lying in the sun until bump arrives.

Egypt · 23/03/2004 20:12

if i remember rightly, you are a teacher kbaby? like me? we are on mat leave from the same time and i think i remember you saying you were. hoping for some nice weather too. although can't imagine it - it is soooo cold.
I can't possibly imagine what itis like to be in labour and think i should get through it without drugs. although, when i have an upset stomach pain - i think, labour must be 10 times as bad as this, and i can't cope now!! help. scary.
we dont have parentcraft classes in our area. mmm, think i may need my mum - or stay in hosp for days until i get it!
do you really have to stay in for 5 days after an epidural? why?

Linnet · 23/03/2004 23:33

Is everyones baby head down? I was at my dr for a check up at 31 weeks (I'm 33 weeks tomorrow) and she said baby was head down but judging by the kicks it's giving me every night and the hard lump that keeps appearing up by my ribs I wonder if it's still boucning around, I'm convinced that it's a head that keeps appearing at my ribs and not a bottom, might be wrong though. There are a lot of kicks and prods in my sides rather than all at the top of the bump if you know what I mean. Plus sometimes it feels like it is literally jumping up and down inside me while drumming it's feet, oddest sensation. When do they run out of room to move around?

I sometimes get a pain like a stitch on my lower right side of bump. And I find that I can't do a lot of bending at work as it's getting quite uncomfortable now. Was comparing bumps with my work collegue today and she is 8 weeks behind me, standing next to her you wouldn't even know I was pregnant as her bump is so big.

I'm seeing my midwife at 35 weeks and I've got a huge list of questions for her. Do you really need to stay in for 3 days if you have an epidural? I stayed in 5 days with my first but that was because I wasn't confident about leaving until I knew what I was doing, was quite happy to stay there with all those qualified people on hand to help if needed.

Other than that things are going fine with me. I've got 7 weeks to go but have resigned myself to having at least 9 weeks to go since dd was late and this one probably will follow suit. I think if I say it often enough the baby will decide to prove me different and arrive early, lol and I finish work 5 weeks on Friday, not that I'm counting of course, lol

spots · 24/03/2004 08:08

Georgina sorry you're feeling down, hope now thattomorrow has arrived things feel cheerier. I bet you a million pounds that whatever happens this time around the birth WILL be completely different from your last experience. Feeling sad always makes horror so much more realistic. But then being one of the first timers I really prob. should shut up eh?
Prufrock do not worry, thanks for good point but the work I will be doing is more like portfolio building and therefore no chance of earning wads of cash while on mat. leave!

My baby's head down and I can't believe how easily they can tell by having a squeeze because I sure as hell can't tell its arse from its elbow. My movements are still quite soft... it's a quiet baby for now... but I did read a funny thing in sheils kitzinger, suggesting that if you can feel a series of short, sharp head movements it's prob. that baby has been sucking its thumb, has lost it and is rooting around trying to find it again! Heehee, that really tickles me. dopey baby! never mind, I do sympathise... think I could lose a thumb in a womb no prob. at the moment.

GeorginaA · 24/03/2004 08:09

As I understand it, they keep you in for observation for 3 days after an epidural to make sure the anasthetic is completely out of your system and that you're suffering no side-effects (and to be fair, I was still feeling slightly numb on day 2, so I can sort of see the point). Then again, last time I signed myself out on the evening of the 2nd day against medical advice because I was so fed up!

Linnet - I wouldn't be surprised if your baby had done a somersault!! At my 29 week scan the baby was breech, at my 31 week scan it was head down, but even then there's still plenty of time and room for it to spin round a few more times apparently!!

GeorginaA · 24/03/2004 08:12

LOL spots, thanks Yes, I know I'm not feeling particularly rational about it at the moment, but it doesn't particularly help that I know I'm not being rational, if you know what I mean!!
