Sleeping on my tummy - yes that's a big "look forward" for me too Okay, a bit longer after the birth will be "not having to see health professionals three times weekly" Looking forward to be able to get on with my own life with my own family and finding our own routines...

Looking forward to not worrying about food intake/water intake/exercise - if I turn into a junk food slob then it's only me it's affecting, not the parasite... um ... baby

vivat · 24/03/2004 12:49

I had an epidural last time and was out of hospital 24 hours later - presume this must be your hospital policy, as there was never any question of me being kept in longer.

Getting very uncomfortable at night and can hardly walk first thing as i'm so stiff, although backache gets better once i've walked around a bit. Feel like i'm about 100 though !

When are everyone's due dates again - i'm 7th May

Egypt · 24/03/2004 20:25

17 May vivat
My baby's head is on my right side, feet kind of down at the left, lying diagonally and has been for weeks! (saw midwife today). Don't feel like its ever in any other position.
cant wait to eat stilton and brie and drink booze - a bit more! (breastfeeding)
and geta good night's sleep without burping up acid and squashing my stomach - lovely

libb · 24/03/2004 20:43

I can't wait to stop answering all "those" questions about when, where, why, what etc etc. I keep telling myself that people ask because they care.

And laying on my tummy will be absolute bliss! Little one never sits still for a moment and he constantly kicks, prods, rolls - you name it, he does it!

libb · 24/03/2004 20:44

Sorry, I'm 9th May

Linnet · 24/03/2004 21:10

My due date given to me by the hospital is May 13th. By my dates I'm due on May 8th but they won't even acknowledge that I have mentioned my long cycle, etc as after all I'm just the pregnant woman, I can't possibly know anything.

And first baby was 10 days late so I'm preparing for this one to be late also so to be honest I'm not actually paying much attention to dates just focusing on the month of May.

EDD is May 24th but I'll probably be induced 2 weeks early.

Name is/will be Benjamin Matthew, unless by some miracle the very clear image on the scan was all wrong (which I hope not, because I've foolishly put dumper trucks up on the wall of the nursery!) then it'll be Beatrice Elizabeth

Bozza · 25/03/2004 12:39

Boy will be Samuel Luke, girl will be Caitlin Mary (either would be abbreviated I think).
EDD 16 May.

Had a bit of a panic on Tuesday night because had really bad stomach cramps all night and it felt very much like I did when I started in labour with DS. So was a bit worried (you know what its like when its the middle of the night and you can't sleep) because 32 weeks is quite early. So was relieved when I actually vomitted, although upset about wetting myself at the same time. So was off work yesterday. Come back this morning to bring in cakes (birthday tomorrow) and catch up on Mumsnet. But I'm off this afternoon because I've got midwive's appt. Hoping to discuss home birth so wish me luck.

GeorginaA · 25/03/2004 12:58

Good luck

I still can't work out myself how I want the birth to go, let alone discuss it!! Wanted a home birth to start with but now I'm almost certainly going to have an induction that's not on the cards and I'm getting worried that the intensity is going to be too much to avoid pain relief.

Plus side is that the hospital do mobile epidurals, so I need to do more research on them. And I asked ... I don't have to be there for 3 days, I can still go at the earliest after 6 hours, but they recommend a 24hr stay.

So don't know anymore. Do I try and see if I can cope with a bit of music and gas & air, or do I book the anesthetist in advance

Bozza · 25/03/2004 13:06

Tend to think I'd do the wait and see option, Gerogina. Try and be open-minded because a lot of it depends how the induction goes I would think. Up to you of course as you know. But if it gets going really quickly it will be very different to if it takes ages to start working.

Because of being poorly and disorganised I haven't really thought much about the home birth recently. My main negative is because of DS being a big baby and having episiotomy last time.

Good choice of name BTW. DS is a Benjamin.

GeorginaA · 25/03/2004 13:12

Yes, I agree with you about the wait and see, but then a bit worried that I'll really need it half way through and the anesthetist won't be available or something!!

Otherwise, the idea of the induction is growing on me... I remember the last few weeks of being pregnant with ds was hell, desperate to get it out Plus it'll make childcare much easier (we can get ds up to his cousin's house the day before). Feeling more positive apart from the extra internals/more intense labour issues.

prufrock · 25/03/2004 13:35

Delivery on April 23rd. ds will be Sebastian James (co-incidentally my consultants fathers and middle name is Sebastian)
Georgina if all you have is the prostin gel and that works to kick start your labour then there is no reason it should be any more intense than an uninduced labour. If you do decide that it's not progressing fast enough and you want your waters broken or oxytocin then surely they'll be able to arrange an epidural before moving on to that.
Thinking back to my induction they pretty much left me to it after inserting the pessaries. In 44 hours of no progress I think I ony had 4 or 5 internals, and about 5 30 minute CTG traces

GeorginaA · 25/03/2004 14:10

That's reassuring, prufrock. The midwife I spoke to today pretty much implied that breaking the waters was standard in all inductions which I really wasn't happy with.

kbaby · 25/03/2004 19:28

I'm trying to keep an open mind. I ve sort've decided that I dont want a epiderual, but only as I dont like the thought of not being able to move around. But if the pain is that bad then i'm sure ill be screaming for one.
Im due 23rd May so 8 weeks tomorrow to go, and 1 week left in work.
Im gutted as I read in the paper today that this summer is going to be a wash out with rain most of the summer, this has spoilt all my plans of lying around the garden.
The names we've thought of so far are;

Harrison Lloyd or James Ellis for a boy
and Madison or Katie for a girl

kbaby · 25/03/2004 19:33

Sorry forgot the other bit.
Things Im looking forward to after the birth;

Being able to get a taxi home, instead of all our friends thinking that I am the taxi.
Sleeping on my stomach
being able to bend to put on shoes
Having more than the same 3 items of clothing to wear.
Not having to worry about what im eating, drinking, done that could harm the baby.

GeorginaA · 25/03/2004 21:17

Please can I have permission to feel smug?

Today I have:

Ordered new mattresses for the cot, moses basket and pram carrycot (not technically necessary, I know, but I'm a paranoid soul).

Washed all the fabric of the moses basket, hoovered the wicker bits and put it all back together (wishing that I'd paid more attention on taking it apart!)

Washed all the fabric of the pram carrycot, hoovered the inside and given the plastic parts a wipe over with antibac washing up liquidy water. Still drying (but am dreading the putting together!!)

Feel like I'm actually getting half organised now!

spots · 25/03/2004 21:50

This is all very getting-almost-into-april talk! I must pull my sox up and put up more clothes drying equipment - main must do thing on list esp. as we intend to use cloth nappies. (what's everyone else NOT done yet??)

What can I not wait for after the birth? do you know ... all i can think is i can't wait to .... have the baby! Isn't that soppy?

Our front runners in the names stakes are Dennis and Laurie (for girl option), but don't tell anyone because we're sort of trying to pretend we haven't decided yet.

Does having a long menstrual cycle mean you're more likely to be 'late'? Sums are not my thing at the moment.

GeorginaA · 25/03/2004 22:02

If I listed what I haven't done yet, it would be about three pages of post

Linnet · 25/03/2004 22:32

Spots, most due dates are worked out with the medical establishment assuming that every woman is on a 28 day cycle between periods. I was not on a 28 day cycle I was 33 days. So my ovulation would have been later giving me a different due date. My gp gave me a due date of May 3rd that was from the first day of my last period.
First scan however they moved my due date to May 13th (10 days later) because of size of baby. If I go by my dates of having a longer cycle etc I think I'm due on May 8th. But like I said my first baby was late so I'm expecting this one to be late also, so month of May is good for me.

Only 5% of babies arrive on their due date most are late because the dr's work out your due date from the first day of your last period so the date you are given doesn't correspond with when you would have conceived that would have happened roughly 2 weeks later. Therefore women should be given a due date 2 weeks later i.e 42 weeks date not a 40 week date. Sorry this is beginning to sound like a biology lesson.

I have a huge list of items still to buy. We have got the cot, mattress, sheets a blanket and some baby gros, hat and mits. A friend of mine at work is making us a Moses Basket, well she's bought the basket and she's making the fabric to go on it, she's a crafty person who likes to sew. Have ordered the pram but it's not in yet and we still have to arrange to get it delivered as it's been ordered from a pram centre in another city and I'm not sure if we're going to be able to get back through there to collect it.

I've started drinking Raspberry leaf tea, well I've had one cup last night and I thought it was quite nice. Not sure if this will make any difference at all to labour and delivery but since I didn't know about it last time I'll give it a try this time just in case.

Oh and I'm looking forward to being able to sleep on my stomach again and being able to bend over to pick things up without my stomach going all hard, I think someone once said that was a braxton hick but if it is then I have them everytime I bend over to pick something up.

spots · 26/03/2004 19:21

ok thanks linnet... I have monstrously long cycle and first baby and history of late babies between siblings and self so suppose I should really brace myself for much lateness. Officially due 7th (snap vivat!) but am just saying 'mid may ish' to anyone who asks.

Remembered at breakfast (All Bran) how much I am looking forward to not eating All Bran after this pregnancy. Every day of lateness will count against my child on a special All Bran chart.

spots · 28/03/2004 17:25

Bozza how did midwife visit go? and the birthday (yours?)

Bozza · 30/03/2004 13:25

Hi Spots. Thanks for asking. Midwife appt was a bit of a let down. Turns out my midwife was on hols so had stand-in (same one as 4 weeks ago btw). Had some protein in sample so thats been sent away for analysis and she decided I might as well go back this week to get results and then can discuss with regular midwife. Protein not a sign of pre-emclampsia because my bp is way too low but might be a UTI - esp because I was sick last week.

Birthday OK - managed to go out and buy some shoes before my feet swelled up too much. Then DH, DS and I went to TGI Fridays for some food and non-alcoholic cocktails. DS had guilt-tripped DH into buying me a cake which he stuck a candle on and DS sung to me and helped me blow it out. He was so excited and sweet it really made my day.

My due date is 16 May (and DS was 1 day late for hosp dates and 2 days early for my dates) so I think I am well and truly entrenched in May.

Yesterday went and bought some of those hooded towels (unnecessary I know and have been told so by DH but we had some for DS), some baby nail cutters because we've misplaced DS's and have been managing his with adult ones, some breast shells and Gina Ford book.

GeorginaA · 30/03/2004 13:42

Trying to picture you cutting ds' fingernails with the aid of some adult clippers, breast shells and a Gina Ford book, Bozza

Well, looks like I will be having an induction at 38 weeks ... so that will be approx... May 10th? Just get a chance to celebrate ds' birthday then pack him up to his cousins I've also been started on some Vit K supplements.

Otherwise generally feeling perky. Making the most of the nice weather today and washing loads of baby clothes.
