I'm actually feeling much more positive about it all (today at least!). I'm 24 weeks today which is reassuring as now the baby has a chance of surviving outside of me (not that I want to put that to the test!)

We've decided on a name for him, so now it's a "person" and I'm really getting quite excited about meeting the little lad.

Ds keeps telling me that he has a baby in his tummy too, only his is a girl called Teagan - bless

I had one of those weeks last week. Puncture on way home from work on Tues. Fortunately rang DH and he was not too far from home so was able to collect DS from nursery and then come change wheel for me. Went to get new tyre in snow Weds lunchtime, got cold and couldn't get warm all afternoon in the office. Was off work Thurs with sicky/ferverish type thing. Today is the first day I've felt OK.

Twiglett our DS's must be almost the same age - mine'll be 3 on 20th. He's already very excited about his birthday and party and cake etc.

On the pregnancy front, baby is moving quite a lot (expecially I think last few days because I've not been). Also started having quite a lot of Braxton Hicks.

libb · 01/02/2004 15:11

Hello everyone,

Its been a while since I last posted on here except for poor Snips - I really hope she and her family are doing okay.

Not much news here on the baby front. He kicks like a donkey and the feeling of him moving from point A to B is the strangest thing in the world! This weekend we have been painting the spare room, mainly to get it out of the way if nothing else (and whilst we have the money!) We went for yellow even though we know it is a boy because that particular room gets a lot of sunshine so it'll nice and bright (and I can't stand most blues!) The whole house needs some majr work but at least we've started . . . I think. I did manage to throw a minor wobbly about the amount of rubbish and muck that DP has collected over the years!

Twiglett, the calculator was ace apart from the conception date - it had me down as a week later I know this particular date for a fact but I guess that it down to the individual(s) at the end of the day!

I can't help feeling a bit of impatient now - but that is me all over!

GeorginaA · 01/02/2004 15:16

Funnily enough, we went for yellow with our ds1 (gosh, doesn't adding the 1 bit feel weird?!) too - and have just finished decorating his new room yellow. Does make it very sunny and cheerful and yellow is now ds' favourite colour!

Not sure what colour we're going for the new baby's room. We weren't going to make it gender specific but we picked up some truck borders in Homebase today intending them for ds1's room but later found a nicer zoo one. Can't decide whether to use the truck ones for the new baby or whether to take them back! It would end up being a predominantly blue room which might feel a bit cold.

What I need is twenty thousand tester pots before I make up my mind

No, we're probably going overboard decorating both

We only moved in this July and they're the first rooms we've decorated. It'll be harder to do once all rooms are being "used", if you see what I mean, as it's taken us a month of weekends to decorate this one! It's nice to start feeling that our house is our own now though, with our own decorative taste.

kbaby · 01/02/2004 17:58

Hi Im due 23rd of may and hope you dont mind if I join your thread?
Im glad that someones organised! Its my first baby and I havent decorated the nursery yet. I keep putting it off as I think its too soon. Although I've chosed the cot bumper and stuff from mamas and papas and think im going to paint it lemon and aqua. Im starting to get loads of movement now which at times feels quite painful. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Bye for now

GeorginaA · 01/02/2004 18:49

Welcome, welcome, pull up a pew

Yes, I'm feeling many more kicks now. The kicks themselves aren't painful, but the braxton hicks (feels like a tightening across the whole bump) can sometimes be very uncomfortable and one or two can take my breath away a bit!

It almost certainly is too early to worry about decorating - I'm just in major planning/getting the house feeling like my home at last mode Daft really as baby will be spending at least the first month in our room...

Hey everyone, How are you all doing? Kbaby welcome to the thread, Twiglett I hope your cough gets better soon.

Haven't even thought about redecorating yet but the plan is to paint the baby's room the same colour as dd's room as we have loads of paint left over and it's a small room so we'll manage, dd's room is painted lilac. Trouble is we aren't telling any family what sex the baby is until after she's born so we can't paint the room until after she arrives, lol. But I was talking to dh about it the other night and pointed out that she'll be in our room in her cot for at least the first 6 months anyway, so it won't matter if we wait and paint it after she's arrived.

Going to Glasgow for the Cardiac scan this Thursday, will only be 26 weeks but I guess that doesn't matter. After that it should all be plain sailing.

I'm not sure if I'm having braxton Hicks or not. Every now and then the bump goes all tight for a little while then relaxes again. I've always thought that was just the baby moving position, bump seems to be a lot more up front when that happens, but maybe it's not, maybe it's braxton hicks.

Twiglett the pregnancy calculator that you posted is giving me very odd information but then I personally think that the hospital is wrong with dates. Plus I wasn't on a 28 days cycle so that may have something to do with it too.
If I put in my edd, that the hospital gave me, the chart gives me a date for my last period which is very wrong. But the dr's are very insistant that their dates are correct, I guess we'll just have to wait and see, afterall dd was 10 days late so I'm not holding out to much hope on this one being on time, lol

GeorginaA · 02/02/2004 21:56

I'm really impressed with everyone's plans to keep their baby in their room until 6 months ish. Ds lasted 4-5 weeks when he was born until I was desperate for us all to get some decent sleep and his moses basket was moved into his own room (and he went into the proper cot not long after that).

Now we've moved, our room is much smaller and we'll only just fit the moses basket in there. I can't see it being terribly convenient and as soon as the little mite outgrows the basket he's going to have to go in his own room anyway.

Feel horribly guilty due to the whole cot death issues, but I just can't see it's going to be practical.

sigh

Linnet · 02/02/2004 22:37

Georgina, if it's not going to be practical then don't worry. Plenty of people don't have their babies in their room with them, my cousin didn't and neither did my friend. Their babies were in their own rooms right from the start.

When I was pregnant with dd we moved to a 2 bedroomed flat so that "the baby would have it's own room" which we decorated yellow, popular colour choice there, lol. As it happened once dd arrived we had her in the moses basket in our bedroom, she went into her cot when she was about 4 and a half months and shortly after that we moved house. The house we moved to had been my mums house and the bedroom that would eventually be dd's was basically a junk room full of rubbish that we had to get a skip to declutter before we could even think of moving dd into it, plus it had to be decorated, etc. So it turned out in the end that dd slept in her cot in our room until she was about 16 months! This time I plan on doing things differently but just because I plan doesn't mean it will happen.

Has anyone else started thinking about their birthplan yet by the way? I've got rough notes written out, anyone else?

libb · 02/02/2004 22:42

Hi everybody,

Welcome Kbaby! ever since you mentioned Braxton Hicks I have managed to convince myself that I've had some - I'm probably not but there we go!

I know I am being a bit previous with the nursery especially as he will probably sleep with us for a little while but at least there will be a nice looking room for us to hide away in during feeds etc.

Little one's latest trick is to wait until I am drifting off into a nice slumber then giving me a really blatant kick in the ribs - clearly takes after his dad and I think a "chat" about his attitude will be sooner rather than later. For both of them.

Glad that everyone is doing well, I can't believe how time has flown so far - have a feeling that the next 3 months will be a drag though!

Take care everyone,

Love Libb xx

GeorginaA · 02/02/2004 22:55

Linnet - I seem born to worry at the moment!! I'm in major anxious overdrive at the moment where I know I'm being ridiculous worrying about things but that doesn't actually stop me! Can I please blame hormones? It makes me feel better...

Birth plan. Really ought to. At the moment though I'm still not decided whether to try really hard for home birth or chicken out, turn up at the hospital 5 mins into labour and beg for every drug going I think my current birthplan might come out a bit confused as a result

Bozza · 03/02/2004 12:21

Linnet - definitely sound like Braxton Hicks to me.

Twiglett - I too like to make DS's cake - we've had a hedgehog (delicious with lots of flakes for spikes) and a lorry. No inspiration for this time but DS so loves baking and birthday cakes I think he would like to make it with me. Might just stick butter icing on and write his name and 3 in jelly tots or something. See what DH thinks.

Am still planning on going for home birth so not sure how far to go with birth plan. Actually the way DS was born it pretty much all follows from there - you know, what worked and what didn't.

We decorated DS's new room last weekend and then moved him this weekend just gone. Its blue and red with the boat bedding from Next. Not quite finished but getting there. Its a much bigger room and he looks so small in there when he's in bed (had a poignant moment that my baby is now a little boy - he's moved up to pre-school room at nursery today as well) - but space at last for all his toys. The nursery is remaining as is - blue and yellow with a huge rainbow mural done by DH.

kbaby · 03/02/2004 18:53

Hi, Sorry to worry everyone with the braxton hicks. Im getting approx 8 a day. This is my first baby and i'm anxtious about everything. Any small pain is a sign that somethings going wrong and I start panicking. My partner has stopped me from reading the pregnancy books as I think I have everything. It probably hasnt helped that i seem to have had every pregnancy complication going. Does anyone get pains in their virgina(sorry to be so gross) its like a shooting pain ive only really felt them the past few days. I know this is a stupid question but would I feel my cervix dilating?
Anyway on to nicer things.
Ive sort of thought of a birth plan but havent actually written it down. My plan is to try and go without a epidural, as i'm more scared of the injection that the actual labour pain. I'm sure that will change though come the time. I'm trying to keep as open mind as possible and will just go with the flow. I'd like to be able to wander around and have a bath and stuff. My partners going to be with me but ive also asked my mum. That way if one annoys me the other can take over
I'm getting bigger now with a definete bump. Im finding it a bit difficult to get my socks and shoes on while standing up. And i'm really fed up of wearing the same clothes all the time. I cant believe what limited choice there is in maternity clothes.

kbaby · 03/02/2004 18:54

Sorry forgot to ask. What date in May is everyone due?
I'm 23rd May which makes me 24 weeks and 4 days

libb · 03/02/2004 18:59

I'm due 9th May so currently 26+4 weeks. Getting a bit impatient with it too . . .

libb · 03/02/2004 19:02

Here in Cambridge some bright spark has decided that D Perkins won't be doing maternity wear anymore. Leaves with us with nowt but Mothercare . . .

Re the BHs and general pains - I do get odd twinges here and there but figured that they were bits and bobs settling (or not as the case may be . . .)

vaguely twiglett ! why?!
Not been on here for a while. Welcome kbaby! Yes BH feel likes tightenings, and i too thought that it was a bit of the baby sticking out right from the first one - which i have to saywas at about 18 wks. v early.
anyway, not been on here for a while as had a blimmin car crash. nothing too bad, but ended up in hospital for the night with contractions. Just like BHs and not painful but v v frequent, like every 2 mins! So they just kept me in for observation. But was v v interesting to experience the maternity ward where i shall be going.
Then, our PC caught the MYDoom virus and all hell broke loose, so finally on the straight and narrow now. Hell, can anything else go wrong? First there was the german measles outbreak at work, then the carbon monoxide poisoning at work, (shall i leave work!?) then the car crash. lovely. yes it was the ice!
Not started any form of birth plan no. Will have to talk to midwife about it at next appointment.
Have decorated baby's room although i had done it just a couple of cream shades even b4 got pregnant and so have left it at that, with some nice mamas and papas bits to match (barnaby bear).
Oh, and other thing was - remember me saying that we were having a 3D scan last Weds? Well the snow prevented us from being able to get there so was gutted. Re-booked it for the ONLY time they have left and DH is abroad Will have to go on own. Shall get a video but of course its not the same.
Glad you are all well, and I shall shut up now

GeorginaA · 03/02/2004 22:23

Car crash?! Oh Egypt you have been through the mill haven't you

Thought I'd let you all know that in yoga class I've been recommended a self-hypnosis tape which is supposed to help birth become much shorter, less painful and help you to feel more in control. Won't get it until a fortnight's time (next lesson) but will let you all know if it's any good

Oh Egypt, sorry to hear about your car crash, glad to hear you're ok though. Didn't know that there had been a German Measles outbreak as well as your carbon monoxide episode, can you finish work early? LOL And what a shame that your dh is going to miss the 3d scan.

Kbaby, the hospital are telling me that my due date is May 13th, I'm 26 weeks tomorrow and this is my second. I'm not convinced that the date the hospital have given me is the right date, I think it's the 8th of May but since they know what's best I just let them get on with it and we'll see what happens.

For those of us who are working outside the home, when are you thinking about finishing? I'm planning to finish work at the end of April. I'll be 38 weeks by then, just got to hope that the bump won't get in the way to much. The midwife last week told me to come back and see her when I'm 34 weeks, "most people stop work that week" she said but when I told her I wasn't going to finish that early she didn't look very pleased! But I made the mistake last time of finishing early and dd was late so this time I'm working as long as possible to I can have more time off afterwards. Anyone else given this any thought?

Well, get my monthly blood test tomorrow, never mind after tomorrows I'll, hopefully, only have another 3 until delivery, yipee, lol
