Thats my DH's chosen expression as well and certainly describes mine.

DS has noticed and if he catches me getting dressed always touches each one with his index finger (weird child). Conversely hugely swelling belly has passed him by.

I'm starting from scratch as we gave everything away after dd was born. We weren't planning on having any more children and a lot of what we had was borrowed anyway. But we have no little vests/babygros/clothes etc nor sheets or blankets. We do still have dd's pram but the raincover broke and I don't think we'd be able to get another one that would fit as it's been so long since dd was born, plus it's in the shed which is a bit damp. Anyway everyone else has really nice prams so I need a nice to one so I can look the same as all of them, sad I know, lol

Did look in Asda the other day and found that it's really cheap for baby gros, vests, bibs and they had a hooded towel as well. I don't plan on buying a huge amount of stuff but have been looking anyway just to get an idea, plus people will buy things once she arrives anyway.

Twiglett, my dr and the midwife both said that they don't start measuring the bump until 28 weeks Still I've got an appointment next week so It'll get done then.

Bozza · 11/02/2004 11:35

I suppose I should add all those things you mentioned to my list Twiglett... Actually think I might have a pack of pads in the loft.

Linnett I bought all my baby basics in Asda last time and they were great. Still do buy all DS's vests and pjs there. I'm sticking with my travel system from last time round - but will replace the filthy McClaren when we get to the buggy stage.

I've been concentrating on sorting out DS this month - with his bedroom move and birthday. Will eventually have to buy some furniture for nursery because DS has taken his with him into new bedroom. Currently baby has a sofabed and a small bookcase which was DS's but has been replaced with a larger one.

GeorginaA · 11/02/2004 12:08

I still can't make up my mind whether to go for a buggy from birth type thing or a pram I like the idea of a pram because it's nice to see the baby, but it's such a short time before they can sit up and look around and I think I'd like a buggy where I can adjust the seat (our current buggy is great but is a 6months+ fixed seat).

I'd get one if only I could just make up my mind!

SpringChicken · 11/02/2004 12:29

Mamas and Papas have some good options Georgina!

The one we are going for is a 3 in 1 - has a carrycot whih can be attached (to be used from birth), then a chair that either lays flat or sits in different position - also includes car seat! All option can be detached from the chassis really easily.

The seat is good as it can be put on either facing you or facing outwards.

That is one of the main reasons we are going for the Mamas and papas one we have chosen Twiglett - think it said in the catalogue that the particular one we had chosen would last up to 4 years.

Ideal really as then we will only need to get a small lightweight pushchair for holiday's etc.

Have a look here - if you select Travel, then travel options then 3 in 1's. We are getting the Ultima 3 in 1 with the car seat on the MPX chasis.

GeorginaA · 11/02/2004 12:52

Only problem about 3 in 1s (for us) is that I drive a small car so we are a) very restricted to which car seats fit in the back and b) very restricted to what size pushchair will fit in the back. I've been through a few pushchairs now and definitely want something lightweight whatever we choose!

The only other thing that worries me about the carseat clip on ones - isn't it bad for their backs? We were told (first time around) not to keep ds in the car seat because they need to lie flat not all crunched up. Obviously car journeys are fine but not for all the time use (which a pushchair does have a tendency of being - at least in our household!!)

SpringChicken · 11/02/2004 12:58

I know what you mean Georgina - i used to have a fiesta and whenever i took my neice out for the day it was a complete pain what with fitting it in the boot and then trying to squeeze the car seat into the back with it only being a 3 door car!

As far as the car seat goes i wont be using ours with just the car seat attached to the frame - i am only using the car seat for when we are in the car - otherwise bambino will be carrycot part initially. The other good thing about this is because it can be detached from the frame it is fine for the baby to sleep in when visiting - as far as i am aware there are no problems regarding their backs or anything!

The carrycot bit does look a good idea

I was thinking about one of those very light weight chassy things which have a small carrycot that clips off. I thought if I could get one very cheaply or second hand then I won't feel quite so bad buying a pushchair type thing later on once baby can sit up.

I really can't face telling dh that I need to buy not one but two more pushchairs though He would not be impressed!

SpringChicken · 11/02/2004 13:59

Plus the ones from Mamas and papas are v. expensive - OK if you plan to use it until the baby is 4 years old or something but not ideal otherwise. Think they are about £500.

Anything in mothercare?

kbaby · 11/02/2004 19:19

im thinking of getting the mamas and papas converse pucshchair. It has a car seat which can be attached but otherwise its a pushchair that lies flat and it can be turned around to face you or the other way. At least then I wont need to get a carrycot.

libb · 11/02/2004 19:40

We've gone for a Graco travel system - it was £160-70 from Babies R Us. Hopefully it will do the job! It also came with all kinds of gubbins such as rain cover etc.

The major thing I'm stressing over is maternity pay/benefits etc. I missed getting the decent pay by 6 weeks - have really enjoyed the witty comments about my self control last August!

Linnet · 11/02/2004 22:26

We're going to Mothercare on Friday to look at prams. I know what one I'd like but we will have to have a good look at it and ask all the questions. It's a travel system and the only problem I have is that Dh and I don't drive and we don't have any immediate family with a car so it's not as if we'd get much use out of the car seat part of it, but at the same time, we'll need the car seat to bring baby home, the odd occasion in taxi's etc.
I was looking at a 2 in 1 as well as I like the thought of getting one of those so that I can see the baby while she's little, plus we're not buying a moses basket so it would be somewhere for the baby to sleep at first, and then it changes to a pushchair when she's older. But I'm not sure how good they'd be at folding down. Since I'm going to be off during the summer holidays and we will probably be going away for day trips on the train we need to think of how easy it is to get on and off public transport.

It's all just so hard, lol Plus we don't plan on spending a huge amount on money on a pram, dd's pram was a mothercare forward facing pushchair suitable from birth and it lasted for 3 years with no problems, unlike the maclaren buggy we got when she was a year old, the one where the wheels kept falling off it after 7 months, but that's another story, lol

Bozza · 12/02/2004 12:45

Libb sounds like what we have from DS. I will be quite happy to use it again. Although I have a new car now with passenger airbag and 3 doors so might have some fun getting the car seat fastened in. Also haven't found a way of getting pushchair part to fit in boot without loosening parcel shelf at one side. Will have another go when I (DH) get it out of loft.

Because we have about five very large steps up to our front door I used to keep the pushchair in the garage. So I could sort DS out in the car seat and then take him out and just clip him on.

prufrock · 12/02/2004 12:59

Linnet we don't have a car either but I wish we had bought a pushchair with car seat attached - when we travel on the train we end up having to take dd in her bugg and carry the seperate car seat as we usually end up getting a cab at on end or the other.
I will once again be using my little brothers Silver cross, which was just wonderful when dd was a baby - she could lie completely flat, so I could leave her in it all night if necessary, and the basket on the bottom was actually big enough to get a decent amount of shopping (including packs of nappies) in. Not sure I would have bought one from new, but I do love the idea that my kids are sleeping in the same pram that their Uncle and Aunt did 24 and 16 years ago. (obviously I bought a new mattress)

kbaby · 15/02/2004 17:07

Has anyone thought of any names yet?

So far on my list I have;

Boys; Harrison, James, Adam.
Girls; Ella, Maddison, Mia.

Linnet · 16/02/2004 22:17

Hey, how is everyone doing?

Well, we went to Mothercare to look at the prams and what an experience it was. The shop was very small, much smaller than it used to be when dd was born. We asked a girl about the Travel system that we were interested in, a mothercare model, and she started to tell us about it. I asked if we had to have the car seat base since we don't actually have a car and she said she didn't know, but she would check, went away came back said that her manager was upstairs but having looked through the catalogue she thought that we probably would need to have it. Then told us that we would be better with this Graco travel system as it comes with the car seat base already and you don't have to buy one seperately.

She then went on to demonstrate the Graco pram. She didn't know if the childs play tray came off or opened, but thought probably not as she couldn't get it to open. I've since discovered that it swings open. She also told us that this pram was really good for babies as it lies flat and all babies need to lie flat on their backs until they are 12 Months Old! I kid you not that is what she said. I stopped listening at this point but Dh was very taken with the travel system and thinks we should buy it. So that was our experience, we're still discussing the pushchair debate.

Went to the dr today for my 28 week check up and she told me that the baby is lying Breach. There was a student Dr there as well and she had a feel of the baby and My Gp told her that it was one of the best Breach babies she'd probably ever feel. Not sure if I should be happy about that or not, lol.

How is everyone else getting on?

GeorginaA · 16/02/2004 23:09

All of us have got stinkers of colds at our house so we're all a bit stroppy with each other

We did the mothercare shop thing and I didn't like any of the options there... We've discovered that our old baby carseat does fit in the Micra after all (I've remembered it was the next stage car seat that we had difficulties with) - we've rescued it from my mum's loft and tried it in there, so that's saved us some money.

Looked at the prams and while I'd love to get a better one than ds old one (which is not particularly ideal for many reasons - one of which is you can just about get it in the boot but no shopping with it!) The prams were too bulky, so they were a no-no. Liked the Maclaren Techno XT but decided we couldn't justify the cost for the little "upgrade" it would have been to get it. I know it's silly, but feel a bit disappointed that we haven't got anything "new" for the baby, although I do realise that it's far better to make do with what we have.

Still haven't found a changing table we like, so I guess we're making do there too!

Am damn well going to decorate his room though, and I'm going to be naughty and buy a couple of new outfits and a teddy. This poor child has to have something that isn't a hand-me-down!

Yes, yes... being silly. I'm sure that I'm feeling so down and bleugh because of this cold.

No, I actually think you've got a rather sensible attitude Can I swap brains with you for a day? (unfortunately the one you get in exchange has got a horrible cold)

Bozza · 17/02/2004 11:49

Linnet I went to Mothercare to see if I could get one of those bases to fit my existing babyseat. Thought it would be easier to leave it in the back of my 3 door car than struggle to try and fasten the belt every time. I also had really poor customer service from really poorly trained staff. Anyway my car seat is apparently too old. Am going to e-mail Graco direct to be certain. Was really fuming in Mothercare. Had to wait ages with DS getting bored and it wasn't even busy.

Got car seat and DS ready to go out and DS piped up "are we going to find our baby now?" Aah.

BTW DS was breech at 28 weeks but turned subsequently.

kbaby on the names - our current is Caitlin Mary for a girl but hopeless for a boy. Am considering starting a thread...
