I am 17 weeks today and have put on a stone. Granted i was 7 stone 10 to start with and i put on just under 3 stone with ds, but this stone seems outrageous at this stage. I am eating well but not indulgently, this is not normal is it? I dread to think what i'll be at 32 weeks. Eek again.

I wouldn't know madgirl but would be interested to see what others say!

I haven't weighed myself for years - always got too depressed! However, when i had my first booking in appt with doctor she weighed me (I closed my eyes)! Maybe i'll ask her what i weighed and the keep a track of my weight gain or maybe i don't actually want to know

Was only because i had a meeting - got my nice comfy catapillar boots on today!

I'm sure the weight will drop off as soon as little bubba is out in the big wide world - I wouldn't worry too much about it!

Cavy · 30/01/2004 11:00

I beat you, put on 1.5 stone and not yet 21 weeks.

madgirl · 30/01/2004 11:03

yes yes YES! cavy, stick with me girl. are you june or may thread?

OP posts:
Cavy · 30/01/2004 11:07

June. People are saying that the bump doesn't look very big, though, that's the funny part... if it's not my bump, where is it all? I try to avoid noticing my bum in the mirror. LOL.

madgirl · 30/01/2004 11:15

god i know, my mum keeps saying it's all water. hmmmm not convinced. AND all i ever have for b/fast is All Bran instead of the bacon sarnie I crave, and a (large) salad at lunchtime instead of the scotch egg and pitta bread with taramasalata (whoops are you allowed that?) that i yearn for.

My craving was feta cheese... lately I have heartburn and don't want anything, though! I never had heartburn with the others, yuck, yuck, yuck.
I can't keep track of what's not allowed, any more. Seems I'm barred from sex, exercise, caffeeine, alcohol and anything that tastes nice. Then DH wonders why when I just crawl into bed at 7pm; my only pleasure left is sleep.

dinosaur · 30/01/2004 11:35

madgirl - you are very slim - I'm sure you haven't anything to worry about!

Quackers · 30/01/2004 11:36

I'm the opposite! Put on 1 pound but look as though I've put on a stone already!!!! I was so much slimmer with my first!!!!
Don't worry Madgirl, you've got room to put on a bit!! (I'm only jealous at 11 stone 10 pounds)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pigwig · 30/01/2004 11:58

I'm 15 wks pg with number 2 and I've already put on half a stone, I actually look like I looked when I was 6mths pg with dd. I'm not eating excessively but admit to zero exercise!!! What I am going to look like when I am 6mths??

Dinny · 30/01/2004 12:00

Madgirl, I put on nearly a stone in first 3 months with dd1 - eating the only thing that stopped me being sick. This time am worried how much weight have lost as am being v sick - eating doesn't help this time!
Who cares how much weight you put on in pregnancy anyway? It's natural to get bigger!

ragtaggle · 30/01/2004 12:27

Oh what I'd give to be 8 stone ten again! I started pregnancy at nine and a half stone (Having recently put on half a stone) and put on a whopping four stone in pregnancy. My midwives said I 'retained a lot of water' which was maybe backed up by the fact that I was two and a half stone lighter by the end of the first week after my labour. I have since lost another half a stone and still have a stone to go to get back to pre-pregnancy weight. (DD nearly 4 months) This isn't bad though considering that I haven't yet started dieting but have merely been breastfeeding. I really wouldn't worry about weightgain - at your weight it won't be unhealthy. Have a chocolate cake and don't worry about it. It will drop off after pregnancy I'm sure

charlize · 30/01/2004 13:45

Mad girl, I was just like you! With my dd 4 yrs ago I stated out at only 7. 7 stone and by the time I was 3 mths I had put on about 10 pounds.
The midwife said it was because I was slightly underwight for my height of 5. 6 that my body was just catching up. Plus I had morning sickness that was only cured by eating.
Altogether I put on 3 stone. Iam now about 8. 4 stone so still a bit heavier 4 yrs later. But I put that down to hardly ever going the gym.

catkin · 30/01/2004 13:47

How much is excessive? I've put on 2.5 stone so far but am 32 weeks ... is that normal? Don't have a very big bump by all accounts, and from checking against others in aquanatal classes that seems to be right, but I do now have a very large bum!!

madgirl · 30/01/2004 13:59

think i am worse as dh has given up alcohol with me and has lost 10 pounds!! but i am going to put the scales away and enjoy this pregnancy. as long as i don't fall over like a weeble i guess the odd brownie won't hurt. (and bacon sandwich, and scotch egg, and doughnut, and victoria sponge, and ................................)

I was weighed at my booking in appointment when I was 14 weeks and I had gained 10lbs. Not sure exactly where this 10lbs was as I wasn't showing, I think it might have been on my boobs as they were huge.
When I went along for my 24 weeks check up I asked the midwife to weigh me as I wanted to know, out of curiosity, how much I weighed at that point. I won't get weighed at every appointment as they don't do that now. I had gained another 7lbs. still not sure exactly where that weight was either as I've only just started to show this week and I'm now 25 weeks.

I'm not overly worried about how much I gain as I know it's inevitable. But I do like to know just because I'm a very nosy person. Have some chocolate Madgirl, don't be afraid, so long as you don't overdo it you'll be fine.

elliott · 31/01/2004 20:56

madgirl, try not to worry about it! I put on 3 stone in both my pgs, roughly one stone each trimester. First time lost it all by 9 months, this time I'm 2 months post birth and have just under a stone to go. I think the 'guidelines' about weight gain are extremely unhelpful - it varies so much.

magnum · 31/01/2004 21:04

madgirl, a bit off the subject but has your dh lost 10 pounds just by giving up booze or is he dieting as well? I am frantically trying to lose half a stone and have been eating really healthy foods but am still drinking red wine of an evening (no more than 2 glasses) I have not lost a pound. Could it be the alcohol. I didn't think it would be that fattening

handlemecarefully · 02/02/2004 13:16

I put on 4 and a half stone during first pregnancy (I deserved to, I was a glutton), and so far have gained 2 stones and 5lbs this pregnancy (29 weeks). Again have been totally undisciplined about what I eat.

I did loose the weight after first pregnancy - but only after about 6 months of dieting and running 9 miles per week!

Skara · 02/02/2004 15:00

Oh thank goodness I found this thread. Have just eaten 2 cadbury caramel cake bars and was feeling really cross at myself for my complete lack of self discipline I'm 22 weeks and have gained well over a stone and a half already! The last twice I've been pregnant I gained about 3 or 4 stone and I swore I wasn't going to this time...but I can't drink, due to a bit of a dodgy start to the pregnancy I got out of the habit of exercise, and now I'm just into major pig out mode. I'm like you, Handlemecarefully, I just use pregnancy as an excuse for complete lack of discipline on the eating front! What's interesting though is just how easily it goes on - my body is just larding it on like there's going to be a world famine in June...
