What was your "show" like?

I have had a change in discharge this week, and wondered it if could be a show. on wiping i have noticed a few blobs of clear gel like stuff. Not anything i have normally had, it was thicker, more like jelly than my normal discharge. I am 37 wks and just wondered if anyone has this, could it my mucus plug? There is no blood on it, just clear.

mine was gross - i'll speare you the details but it was definitely NOT something i could have mistaken for anything else. best of luck though if this is you starting.

2Happy · 19/05/2006 18:03

Snot.

gigglinggoblin · 19/05/2006 18:09

like what you get when you blow your nose when you have a really bad cold. and theres loads of it, usually flecked with blood. you will know at the time!

diddle · 20/05/2006 09:40

wow you all sound like you had very odd "shows" like something out of alien. i saw a midwife yesterday and described what i had to her and she said that it sounded like a show. I presume that they're all a little different as mine was nothing like snot.

Looked like a tablespoon full of clear jelly, flecked with blood.

Turned my bloody stomach knowing that it had just come out of me!

bubblez · 20/05/2006 10:32

mind happened when i was eight cm dialated and 1hr before i gave birth...

It was unmistakable, like very thick discharge and there was loads of it and it had lots of blood.... [sick face]

i think that it is different with everyone, but the common theme seems to be that there is a lot of it and it is like snotty very thick discharge and at least laced with blood....

expatinscotland · 20/05/2006 10:33

I never had one. With either girl. My waters never broke till right before delivery, either.

The only 'symptom' of labour I had were contractions.

bubblez · 20/05/2006 10:34

how are you feeling today diddlle anyway?? anymore signs of the onset of labour?? Smile

TheFlameWhoWasAfraidOfTheDark · 20/05/2006 11:08

Gelly/snot type stuff first time round.

Second time - big patch of blood Shock Scared the cr*p out of me (even an MN thread showing me scared somewhere!!!)

Munz · 20/05/2006 11:12

god are u that far already?

erm mine was well like jelly stuff started out as like a snail trail Blush waters also came along - I thought it was a crap pelvic floor to begin with Blush lol.

good luck. fingers crossed it kicks off for u.

suzywong · 20/05/2006 11:37

mine was like an enormous, peeled black grape
In fact that's what we thought it was as it dropped out while I was putting on ds1's shoes and I had my pants on at the time and ds1 had indeed been eating peeled black grapes for breakfast. Only it was body temperature, we know that because ds1 trod in it and said it was warm

Didn't go in to labour for 8 days

jampots · 20/05/2006 11:45

bleugh suzy at the prospect of eating your "black grape"

Mine was like pork pie jelly with a perfect red circle in te middle. Directly competing with Suzy though I went into labour 11 days later :)

PinkTulips · 20/05/2006 12:26

big lump of bloody snot, way bloodier than i'd expected. had it at 3am while on the bog and had another one after my first internal exam to see how dilated i was and it was even worse... bigger and bloodier Shock

diddle · 20/05/2006 12:44

feeling ok thanks bubblez - just very achy, no more signs of a show nothign blood stained at all yet. we'll see what this afternoon brings. getting a few contractions but nothing regular or painful.

diddle I'm 38 weeks today and desperatlely looking for some sign of labour, dd1 was 1 week early. I didn't get a show just waters broke then delivery. Feel a bit nauseaous today and bowels a bit loose (sorry tmi). Could this be the start of something?

peanutbutter · 20/05/2006 19:24

I'd been in labour for about 15 or so hours before I had my show. I felt something very wet indeed in my knickers, my husband helped me step out of them and there, quivering on the gusset (sorry Blush), was a huge HUGE dark glossy piece of jelly. It would easily have filled my hand if i'd cared to pick it up. I'd no idea shows could be that big. dh was impressed. After i'd finally had an emergency section and was being taken to the ward, i asked where my clothes and bag would be. The midwife assured me all my stuff would have been taken from the delivery room to the ward - i imagined some unsuspecting HCA picking up my underwear and then the wet thud as this great big thing dropped to the floor..

diddle · 23/05/2006 09:00

TheHun - They do say that loose bowels is a very good sign of your body preparing for labour, i've had this too for a week or two now. I'll be 38 wks on thursday. Had what i think is another small show. The midwife i spoke to said it could come away in pieces.

Hi im new to the site. First pregnancy 37 weeks. Had been having some back ache and when i went to the toilet the discharge was slimey not snotty, but kind of like the brown blood at beginning / end of a period.
Been told by the midwife ive been having show had a little for past 3 days now. Sounds nothing like what youve all described lol
Had an internal yesterday and my obstetrician wrote in my notes that im 1.5cm dilated, but been told to not get too excited because doctors can be a bit generous with their measurements....rain on my parade why dont they lol

mrsmaddyd · 23/05/2006 12:57

Diddle just popping in to wish you luck, cant believe how quick its come round.

diddle · 25/05/2006 08:38

Its good to hear other people having snot like shows too!
i thought i must have had a really really strange infection if not a show lol
my midwife said its not a show unless it has blood in it- total bollox i reckon!

billiejo · 25/05/2006 13:58

this is prob WAY too desciptive but do you know when you get a leaflet stuck on the cover of a glossy mag and you peel it off and there's this really sticky fibrous piece of glue, well that's what mine were like for both ds 1 and 2.
hth, billiejo.x

diddle · 27/05/2006 14:41

cheers billiejo - mine was very similar to that.

spinamum · 27/05/2006 21:52

i had a stretch and sweep so that might make a differance to "quality". mine was gooey blood and very gross. I got dragged into hospital when I phoned to check what the h* had just happened to me. i think i had two shows if that's possible. the above was number 2. the first one was blood speckled blob of snot like jelly. not very dramatic. happened the day after s and sweep. Next morning the "alien" arrived.(alien was show two, not my gorgeous boy BTW)

nicnack2 · 27/05/2006 21:59

my show with ds2 was pink jelly like. didnt do for 24hours after show
