Hi everyone,

This thread is for all you incessant worriers out there, not necessarily limited to IVF-ers, although I get the feeling the people who have had trouble TTC are more prone to worrying than others!

A few of us graduated from the IVF thread (link below) and are having a go at our own thread to get out of the other IVF-ers hair! So get your roomy jogging bottoms on for some virtual hand holding, mutual symptom spotting and staying sane until the next scan date.

Hope all is well foody. I had a few bleeds with Dd1 and while it completely terrifying, the people at the epu were very blaze about it and everything was fine. I think unless it gets rapidly worse and hurts you should be fine...that said, go get checked out for your own peace of mind and don't feel bad about asking for a scan.

Re birth....I loved mine. It was painful but not in a worrying way...just more of a very strong sensation. I had a hospital birth bcs of having lost my other dd and probably would every time anyway but each to their own and all that. It was the most magical thing and although very stressful and traumatic I parts overall it was incredible. Don't underestimate your body, I felt like I knew exactly what was going on and exactly what my body should do despite never having done it before. Bizarre really.

MarianaTrench · 10/05/2013 16:48

That's exactly the kind of thing friends have said crisps. Focus on that instead! It really is a hugely individual thing though, so you have to work out what is most likely to suit you.

Shazzamattazzerly · 10/05/2013 17:01

Hello lovely ladies

Just a quick post to say All fine. I was so relieved I cried and we had to wait to do the scan. We are going to an art thing now. Thanks for your support. I really appreciate it. I'll check in later.

Shaz xxx

MarianaTrench · 10/05/2013 17:09

Brilliant news! Have a lovely evening!

ExpatAl · 10/05/2013 17:20

Lovely fantastic news Shazza!

Foody, good news you have an apt for Monday. Hope the days inbetween aren't too awful.

SweetieTime · 10/05/2013 19:06

Shazza excellent news, what a relief for you. Enjoy your evening

Dildals · 10/05/2013 22:58

Ah good! (Re Shazza's)

Thanks girls. My what a relief. Without any screening they said that my odds were 1:41 with the nuchal and combined test that went to 1:818 but a negative harmony test is over 99% accurate so I can be pretty sure it's all fine. The scan was the best yet. Shazlett was stretching her little limbs and opening her mouth. It was amazing considering the she is not even 7cms. On screen she looks like a baby albeit one with an extraordinary large head! Yet she is not even the size of my palm. It freaks me out to think of seeing her in real life. They even gave us a DVD of the scan! That's the private sector for you. We watched it last night. Fascinating.

Foody I'm glad you have an appt to settle your worries. I'm sure it's fine but that's what the EPU is there for.

Mariana bleeding nipples? Yikes! If I saw my baby puking blood I'm sure I would panic. Thanks for letting us know that it does get better. I think otherwise I'd have given up.

Re birth. I'm still not convinced I'd feel relaxed at home but maybe you are right. Ill see what happens on the day I guess. The MW will be with us from the outset anyway so she will guide us. I love the field though Dildals. At least the cows would be done. Only a woman could multi task like that Grin

I'm going to celebrate by getting my hair done. I'm over 13 weeks now so according to the books I can colour my hair. Do you think it's ok? It's a pretty desperate root situation but I'd never forgive myself if something happened afterwards. But all those celebs who are pg must get their hair done right?

I also think I'm going to shop for my first pair of mat jeans. There's no getting around it. My 2 remaining low waisted trousers are starting to dig in! Time to get comfy if shazlett is planning to stick around for a few months.

Have a good day everyone.

X

SweetieTime · 11/05/2013 08:31

Shazza I am having my hair highlighted today too. I am going to ask my hairdresser to not go right down to my scalp. It might mean I need to go a bit more regularly for regrowth, I will ask her what she thinks. Enjoy your mat jeans shopping, let us know where you recommend.

keepitgoing · 11/05/2013 08:43

Aw shaz, I'm so pleased for you!

Foody I had a tiny bit of spotting at 7 weeks, Dr blamed sex. Have you indulged? Will you cancel Tuesday's scan then? Not eat pineapple?! I eat it every day. Where did you hear that?

Fairy, it doesn't make sense you can't give birth in a MW unit but could at home. Wtf?

Dildals that all freaked me out lots. I am trying not to think about the birth until 25 weeks. I have no idea where we'll be living or the options, though doctor dh would never in a trillion allow it to be home. If there's a mw unit right in the hospital then maybe...

keepitgoing · 11/05/2013 08:51

Shaz, my book say highlights are better than full dye. I've not been yet but am always a bit lazy

SweetieTime · 11/05/2013 09:10

keep I had a bit of a moment the other day when we had marrowfat peas. I am sure I read that peas have an impact on fertility so I didn't know if they are ok to have in early pregnancy. The things we worry about. I had them and haven't had any side effects.

So what pregnancy books do you all have? I am thinking I should order one next week if all is ok at our scan. Any recommendations?

keepitgoing · 11/05/2013 09:14

I have pregnancy week by week by lesley Regan. V good, quite detailed, she's an obgyn.

Peas too? Ah well, there are none here...

Three days sweetie!

Foodylicious · 11/05/2013 09:23

So very, very pleased for you shaz did a bit of reading about hair and I would go for highlight/lowlights too. I am allergic to the parabens in dark dyes but had my friend do my whole head in foils a few years ago, was a bit of a faff, but basically you should be able to have any dye you like, but get the hairdresser to put it on in foils maybe?
You deffinaytely deserve to treat yourself, so have fun!
keep no we have not 'indulged', have cancelled tuesdays scan. Re the pineapple, I saw it someone else post, this site has some info, but its quite a pants site I think!!www.onlymyhealth.com/vegetables-fruits-avoid-during-pregnancy-1307089264.
Trying to be possitive today, and not over think everything. Off to see my sisters so will have distraction (they dont know so not being able to talk about it might be good). Been having twinges in the same place on an off yesterday and today, but again I know this can be normal. I am a bloody nightmare, will just have to hold it together till monday.

blondebaby111 · 11/05/2013 10:00

foody....just seen yesterdays post, hope your ok and try not to worry..i'm sure its normal. try tpo relax this weekend and good luck for mon. At least you are being checked over...i've read on here that it is common around 6 -7 weeks, still part of the implanting xxx

fairypangolin · 11/05/2013 10:39

Shazza- great news, so happy for you and Shazlett. Miracles really can come true!

Foody- glad you are keeping it together and it sounds as though things have not got worse.

I read that the amount if hair dye you absorb through the skin when having any normal treatment is so low there is no possible danger to the baby. Marrow fat peas? Never heard of that one. I reckon if the NHS isn't warning you about it don't worry.

Off to pregnancy yoga now. Hope it's relaxing as I have been sleeping v poorly recently.

Dildals · 11/05/2013 10:58

Shazzlett If you are shopping for mat jeans: The ASOS ones - although in lovely colours, have started to become not so comfortable. I was uncomfortable all day yesterday with the front bit digging in and the bum bit hanging off. Maybe it's because I have one of those flat asses, but just thought I'd give you my thoughts! I still prefer the Topshop ones - I put a bid on a pink/plum pair, don't go bidding on 'my' jeans! ;-)

Also bought a new mat bra from John Lewis yesterday. It is comfortable but I feel (and look) like I am wearing my nan's bra ...

Twinges are really common Foody, I used to get them almost daily ranging from occasional cramps to repetitive sharp pains. Obviously I worried about every single twinge but I suppose there's an awful lot going on in there so you're bound to feel something. When you've had a bit of bleeding you become even more hyper alert too. Sympathies but I'm sure everything will be fine on Monday.

I thought it was just permanent dyes you had to avoid lying on your scalp so high / low lights sound better. Or semi permanent? I only ever use semi permanent and only die my hair once a year, so I'm not sure I should even comment! I stopped having highlights as I couldn't maintain them after DD1 was born, went back to my natural colour (which thankfully it turns out I actually like and strangely have no grey yet), plus grew it long enough to tie back!

Pineapple is rumored to soften your cervix but I doubt you have to avoid it. I certainly didn't. Peas? I've not heard that before but I do love pea soup, hmm.

I've never bought a book, the Internet has been a constant source of new terrors met all my info needs.

Keep my maternity hospital (very large one though) has a mw led unit opposite the consultant led wards. This means that if you opt for mw led care and things don't go to plan you can be transferred in a matter of minutes. I thought this was ideal, when I was admitted with DD1 I lasted all of a couple of hours in the mw led bit before needing induction and an epidural, at which point I was transferred across the corridor. My local town has a lovely mw led birthing centre but if you need a doctor it's ambulance to the nearest maternity unit 15 miles away, I wouldn't fancy that at all, but most people aren't as pessimistic as me and they do have a very low emergency c section rate.

Breastfeeding is definitely all worth it IMO. I'm currently still in bed with the baby who has been feeding and sleeping on and off since 5am and because DD1 is out with DH I can indulge DD2 and just enjoy lounging around with her. She is such a funny little thing, she grunts and snuffles like a piglet and then gives a big sigh and falls fast asleep again. What a life she has!

MrsHY1 · 11/05/2013 13:26

Shaz just popping in to say what fantastic news Grin
Thanks for all the kind words about my 10wk scan, Gin- I went back to the Lister for mine just because I love the sonographer (she almost gets as excited as me during the scan!!) but I have heard brilliant things about the Foetal Medicine Centre on Harley St who are also quite a bit cheaper than other central London private centres.
Foody and Blondie, hope you're both ok x

MrsHY1 · 11/05/2013 13:27

Oh and Mariana I love the description of your little girl!! What a life eh! Grin

Shazzamattazzerly · 11/05/2013 15:52

Oh Mariana she sounds perfect. How cute. St Thomas' also has MW unit next to mat ward if you need the dr care.

Thanks for all the best wishes ladies. I must admit I'm chuffed and feeling very pleased with myself today. Suddenly I'm pregnant and want to tell the world!

Thanks for the jeans tips dildals. You are becoming our go to girl for fashion tips! I'm very disappointed with croydon's maternity selection. So top shop, next, house of Fraser even M&S all have no mat wear in store. Apparently the good pregnant women of Croydon stay confined to their houses and shop on line. Debenhams and new look had pathetic excuses for maternity sections consisting of a couple of pairs of size 16 flared extremely stone washed jeans. Black Polyester (!) trousers, track suit bottoms, very pale stonewashed jeggings (!!!!) and a few dodgy tops. For goodness sake I'm pregnant, I haven't lost all self respect or taste. So it's online top shop for me and scouring ebay and charity shops for designer bargains. I wonder if Oxford st top shop branch will have a mat section? Probably I would have thought. I might go there after work on Monday. I did have a butchers at Asos and they have some very cute dresses. Sadly I'm not sure if a pregnant 42 year old should wear them though. The model was very young and pretty.

I expect we have got the same bra dildals. There wasnt a great deal of choice. I'm waiting to grow into mine!

So I'm a terrible mother already choosing to colour my hair rather than have highlights. I just went for it and we used the most sensitive dye possible. My hairdresser said that he does loads of pregnant women, so they do get there hair done in Croydon even if they don't shop, and that it is fine. he said that my new warm colour will bring out my pregnancy glow so hopefully I will feel fabulous even if I'm racked with guilt.

Re peas. I love peas and eat loads. Maybe that's where I was going wrong with years of sub fertility.

After a pitstop at home and a post lunch nap I'm off back out to the charity shops of Streatham.
X

fairypangolin · 11/05/2013 16:44

dildals how does feral monitoring during labour work with twins anyway? I recall they clipped an electrode to DS's skull through my cervix- they could do that to twin no 1 but how would they reach twin no 2?

shazza my local debenhams is equally appalling. 18 quid maternity tshirts and WHITE leggings? No thanks! I like some of the dresses on Asos too but the longer ones. There's a coral coloured tankini swimming costume I might buy too ( if only I looked like the preggo model in it!)

mariana what a lovely morning, I can hardly wait to do the same.

Shazzamattazzerly · 11/05/2013 16:58

Hi fairy

I know I was surprised cause debenhams are all about advertising look at our nice clothes but clearly not if you are preggers. I don't even care about designer labels or fashion that much but I would like to try on a few different pairs of jeans in my size and not have to order on line and then end up sending loads back. In my experience jean shopping is hard enough at the best of times. And yes I'm afraid that the world isn't quite ready for me in white leggings pre pregnancy let alone with bump! The tankini sounds cool though. X

SweetieTime · 11/05/2013 18:05

Shazza it doesn't sound like the best shopping experience. I hate shopping so really not looking forward to having to try to continue looking presentable with very little selection. Think it will have to be a case of ordering everything half way suitable online then trying on at home. already not looking forward to it

Shazzamattazzerly · 11/05/2013 19:06

Oh me too sweetie. I'm a terrible shopper. But I was looking forward to treating myself today. Oh well I'll try top shop next week. I usually find top shop overwhelming so at least ill only have one dept to tackle.
