Good new rueSmile

Yes, we did the same when V was new- I expressed for her last feed, which DP or M often gave, so we knew she'd had a good amount and normally slept for 4hrs or so.

Hopingforno2 · 28/05/2013 20:46

bona lack of sleep aside im sure you will have a lovely time at the wedding. Which part of scotland is it in? Just being nosey as im from scotland Smile

BonaDea · 28/05/2013 20:53

Great news Rue. Glad the weight gain is going well!

Hoping - didn't know that! I'm Scottish too! From airdrie originally and the wedding is in new Lanark! Visiting my mum in Edinburgh first so flying in and out of there.

Must work harder on the pumping. Maybe a huge late bottle would help!

SpottyTeacakes · 28/05/2013 21:05

Sounds lovely Bona Smile the furthest north I've ever been is Northampton Blush

Actually might have gone to Great Yarmouth at primary school Grin

I'm going to start introducing a bottle of formula somewhen in the day. I will have to go back to work eventually and don't want to be in a panic about ds refusing one.

Hi diec,

Still on for formula milk as he seems quite happy on it. Am going to try to get to the 6mth stage but then I also know lots of mums wean sooner than that. He doesn't seem really hungry so will let him tell me? He still wakes once in the night but takes 7oz in about 15 mins then is back asleep, bless him! He's 4 and a half months now so not long.....yikes!

X

Hopingforno2 · 28/05/2013 23:47

bona im from wishaw and live in carluke so you will be about 10 mins up the road from me for the wedding Smile cant belive your from lanarkshire too!! I hope the weather improves for the wedding tho new lanark is beautiful either way. Are you staying there?

Hmm today has been the usual up n downs both dc where away with my oh family for a few hours i rushed down a lunch and went to bed for a catch up sleep went low then was 13.7 by dinner Hmm

BonaDea · 29/05/2013 02:22

Hoping - that's mental! All very close to where I grew up. Had a holiday romance with a boy from carluke once! Yep staying at new lanark hotel for the night of the wedding - thought it would be easier with the baby! :)

Well, up for first time tonight. Hope I can get him settled fast. Tmrw is going to be so stressful! Just woke up at 11.9. Grrr.

Hopingforno2 · 29/05/2013 03:42

bona its a small world after all lol had u still been up here we would have been at same clinic etc for preg and delivery! My oh and his family are feom carluke i moved up from wishaw ( not that its far) with him. I once had a bf from airdrie lol ive never stayed in the new lanark hotel i bet it will be wonderful. Do remeber being at a wedding reception tho where the buffet was a roll and sausage or bacon.

Im up feeding ellie its 7.9 which is a huge inprovment on the usual of around 10 thou i always seem to be higher than that by breakfast even tho i take small corrections?!

dieciocho · 29/05/2013 07:53

Argh, was up feeding at 00:30, must be 4-month growth spurt, just 4 weeks later than full term babies.
At least it made me check my blood - it was 1.6, so ate 3 biscuits and woke at 11.4 Shock
I HATE dawn phenomenon.

Yes, newbie, V seems happy and full on milk, it's just that her face lit up when she saw my banana and I couldn't resist trying her on it Smile, but I don't plan to introduce solids once a day until mid-summer.

rue, have you ever had an infection in your pump site?

BonaDea · 29/05/2013 19:29

Diec - good sign that she is so interested in food. I can't wait to start t bear on solids but guess for us it will be more like mid autumn!

Would you believe it. BA failed to get our travel bag containing the chassis, carrycot and all T's stuff (clothes, muslins, towels, blankets, sleeping bag) from gatwick to Edinburgh. They are meant to be delivering tonight but ffs.

DH had to do a mercy dash to buy some supermarket vests and sleep suits so we could at least put him in something clean and dry for bed. Currently feeding him to sleep then will have to lay him on top of the double and keep a v close eye on him. Monitor also with the pram.

Angry
dieciocho · 31/05/2013 10:36

Totally FFS bona, poor you.Shock

Definitely a growth spurt, she was up at 3am this morning and her little tummy was rumbling Blush
In other news, I had a MASSIVE hypo on Wednesday night/Thursday morning - "came to" to find myself being fed, then had to be carried to the toilet. It felt like a disability right then; normally I avoid ticking that box on forms. Couldn't feed the baby as wasn't strong enough to hold her, so had to leave her in the cot grizzling for 30 mins. until blood went up to 2.5

Hopingforno2 · 31/05/2013 15:13

diec that must be scary how did ur oh know u were having one?ivw gone down as far as 1.8 and still been functioning enough to go get something sugary.

bona did u get ur pram etc?

dieciocho · 31/05/2013 16:32

hoping it was my mum as we're staying with my M&D for half-term. She was trying to wake me as the baby was crying, but I wasn't getting up to sort her out.
Yeah, I've been 1.4 before, but still able to put food in my mouth, so f* knows how low I was this timeShock

SpottyTeacakes · 31/05/2013 16:35

Poor you diec good job your mum was there. I have awful memories of coming to as a teen with my parents shoving Jaffa cakes down my throat Hmm

Hi ladies! Haven't been on here for a while so hope you're all wellSmile!

I have a question - I am not pg yet but I was wondering (if I ever fall pg)how slim the chances are for a diabetic lady to get out of hospital on the same day after giving birth?? I know it obviously depends on how well everything goes etc but if everything goes normal and without complications would I have to stay overnight?? I'm just asking as I am terrified of staying in a hospital overnight and in a ward with just curtains around the bed and not even in a proper room. I know it's silly, but that's what it is. Blush Any ideas much appreciated Smile x

SpottyTeacakes · 01/06/2013 19:02

Kitty ignoring the fact that you're diabetic it depends on so many things, like what time you give birth, when the doctors can get to your baby to do the newborn check (they have to be at least 2or4(?) hours old before it's done. Getting breastfeeding established, how many weeks prem baby is, what kind of birth you have, if you have an epidural etc etc etc. ds was born at lunch time and even though he was in SCBU I still wasn't discharged until the next day, this was second birth and I was fine.

I'm not trying to worry you but I don't think it's very likely at all. At our hospital you can hire private rooms for £50 a night, would that be an option to you? Also even on the wards dads can stay in too, does your hospital allow that?

That said both my dc have been in SCBU but none of the other babies on the thread have so there might be some different answers to follow...

OP posts:
kitty555 · 01/06/2013 19:49

Thanks spotty - to be honest I don't think it is likely that I can go home after a few hours already.

Hiring a private room sounds like a better option Smile. I could just pretend it's some sort of hotel. I will have to enquire at our local hospital whether they offer something like that or if that's not an option if at least DH can stay as well...

And yes, I am aware that it depends on loads of different things and it is probably a silly question Blush..

SpottyTeacakes · 01/06/2013 19:52

It's not a silly question. You know there are type 1 diabetics who have had home births. You would have to fight hard for it though Smile

OP posts:
kitty555 · 01/06/2013 21:30

And I guess it is quite risky in case something goes wrong, either with you or the babyHmm

RueDeWakening · 01/06/2013 21:38

Like Spotty says it depends on your hospital. At mine, T1s are not permitted private rooms post-natally (in case of hypos that aren't picked up on) and partners are not permitted to stay beyond 10pm.

With DD (term, section) I was in hospital for 5 nights. With DS1 (31 weeks, section) I was in for 5 nights at my request as he was in NICU and it was easier to be across the corridor from him than a couple of miles away at home. With DS2 (37 weeks, section) I was in for 2 nights before being sent home.

Hopingforno2 · 02/06/2013 00:01

kitty with both dc i was only in 3 days and thats with c sections and short stays in neonatal for both. Second time around a planned section id have had my own room if i hadnt had to go to transitional care with dd. if you can hire your own private room you will be fine honestly its harder when you get home with baby Wink i sometimes wish id been in longer no cooking or cleaning to worry about and visiting hours so you can sleep(with curtains round) when baby sleeps and the other mums around me with my 1st helped alot with ds as i was a section and the midwifes didnt have the time by getting me things like towels and cups of tea Smile

Anyone heard from puds??

dieciocho · 02/06/2013 15:32

Wonder where puds is.

At my hospital partners had to leave at 21:00 and private rooms cost £300/night - SO not an option!
I was in for 3 nights in total.

SpottyTeacakes · 02/06/2013 15:52

I'm aware I have a really good hospital! With dd I got a private room for free (they do that if there's one free and your baby is in SCBU) and then there's a 'mum's room' in SCBU with a bathroom and four beds.

OP posts:
kitty555 · 03/06/2013 06:19

diec for £300 you get a night in a 5* hotel Smile, that's expensive.

Thanks anyways ladies for giving me a better idea. I will start making enquiries when I get to that point. And maybe I even "survive" a couple of days in a hospital. Hope our hospital is as good as spottys but I doubt it Wink.
