Antenatal this morning, and the big news is that they've booked my section for 16th may, and want to admit me on (probably) 14th to give steroids. I have already started making my case for managing the steroids from home...not sure how far I'll get but it's got to be worth a go Grin

I'm happy to have a date, as it gives me something to aim for - and also means I can sort out childcare for the other two. So hurrah!

BonaDea · 16/04/2013 14:15

Oooh Rue, exciting! Definitely see what they say on that front but I think those days I had in hosp when they gave steroids were a total waste. I wasn't given the sliding scale and I tested my own bg's and adjusted if need be. I didn't find the impact of steroids at all bothersome!

Given you'll be in for 2-3 days minimum it seems unfair to add 2 days on to that esp as you have other DCs.

SpottyTeacakes · 16/04/2013 15:17

Rue how far will you be? When I had steroids I had the sliding scale for an hour or two until they went back down. Tbh I just didn't have it in me to argue as it was middle of the night ones and I was being woken every hour to test Hmm Seems ridiculous looking back on it...

I'll be 37+4 (I think!), 38 weeks is the Sunday and they've said they won't deliver later than that and since it's the weekend they only do emcs so have to move it back. I want to do the steroids from home because a pump is essentially a sliding scale without the glucose bit, seems like a no brainer really.

Steroids with DS (at 24 weeks) messed things up quite badly, but I think that was partly due to stress, the op we had, and finding out we'd lost the other 2. And having had them before, at least I have some idea of what to expect!

dieciocho · 16/04/2013 15:36

It must be great to have a date rue - and it's very near my b-day, so I'll be hoping that you have it then Grin.

There was no mention of steroids for V. so I'm none the wiser!

BonaDea · 16/04/2013 16:34

That is quite surprising diec. I was given them at 36+6 those days I was admitted for high bp. I was told it was policy to give them where delivery was likely to be before 37 weeks , particularly if by section. The fact that I was one day off it made no difference to them (and of course the section happened a full week later anyway!).

mylittlepuds · 17/04/2013 20:32

How are you Hoping? X

SpottyTeacakes · 17/04/2013 20:39

Just saw these posts... I had dd at 36+1 and didn't have steroids. The day before I had her my consultant was umming and ahing (how does one spell that??!) about it but I think in the end it was too late they needed her out. Her lungs were fine though yet ds was nearly ventilated and I actually had steroids with him Sad

Hoping Thanks hope you're doing ok

Hoping - how are you doing?

dieciocho · 18/04/2013 15:42

Has anyone heard from hoping? She hasn't posted for nearly a week Hmm

Can't believe I've almost done my first week back at work - bloods are all over the place, I'm too busy to eat and I'm feeling drowned in requests from bosses etc to do this that and the other - it's like flood gates have suddenly opened, they've been storing up a zillion little tasks for me to do since I went on Mat. Leave in December!

SpottyTeacakes · 18/04/2013 15:44

My work asked me to come in and help out Hmm I said no. Ds still feeds every two hours plus I hate my boss...

OP posts:
BonaDea · 18/04/2013 18:12

Diec - sounds awful. Can't believe they are being so unreasonable in your first week back!

Spotty - quite right to say no! They have no right to expect you to come in!!

mylittlepuds · 19/04/2013 08:12

Diec - I find that when you back after mat leave for the first few weeks they have a little point to prove to themselves. Quite what I'm not sure...with me it settled down after a few weeks and as I'd gone part time was then pretty much ignored! Ha! Twas great.

Really hope Hoping okay. I've been there. It's horrendous.

Need advice ladies. I have posted on another board but you guys might be able to help too. This UTI is causing me strife in that the tablets prescribed Augmentin is upsetting DDs tummy. She's wriggling abou, unsettled at the boob, on and off and I just know it's the tablets as she's been fine. As she's only 9 days old I freaked out last night thinking the tablets could have damaged her in some way!

I'm also worried about her getting thrush too.

So do I go on with them? Or chuck them? The MW I spoke to at the hospital was really offish with me and I felt she thought I was trying to use it as an excuse to stop bfing!!!!!!!!!! I most certainly wasn't. I just feel awful that something I'm taking is causing her discomfort. Reassurances welcomed!

SpottyTeacakes · 19/04/2013 08:19

Puds it's quite well known that antibiotics upset babies tummies. It won't have done any damage but I'm afraid you need to plough on because it's more important long term for you to be well. How much longer have you got on them?

OP posts:
mylittlepuds · 19/04/2013 08:28

Thanks Spotty! Well oddly enough I've been in them a few days since going to GPs but have just phoned up for wee results and no UTI?! So perhaps it was a bit of my thrush causing the pain in my bladder? Or everything constricting back? I don't know! It's a mystery! Bit confused!

How wonderful is the human body - my boobs know when she needs feeding. Amazing really.

BonaDea · 19/04/2013 12:08

Puds - if there is no UTI stop taking them. Anything to avoid thrush is my new mantra!!

My hell continues. Although improved the thrush is definitely not what you'd call gone and the pain is lingering although a bit better. Starting to really get me down. Have also had to start using rugby ball hold to relieve nipples and although DS is feeding well I find it awkward and a bit unnatural.

Am hoping that as DS gets bigger and his mouth gets bigger things will naturally get easier. Otherwise there's no way I can keep this up for a year as I'd planned!! Confused

SpottyTeacakes · 19/04/2013 12:11

I've got another blocked duct Sad

OP posts:
dieciocho · 19/04/2013 14:28

Oh spotty! Not again.

Bona, you're doing so well, I'm sorry that it's taking a while to clear up.

Puds stop, stop, stop the antibiotics if you don't really need them - they mess up so many of the balances inside you. Spotty's right, they won't have damaged Pudlet, but if you don't need to take them, both of you would benefit from your not taking them.
God, does that even make sense? I'm SO tired after my first week back.
Took V. in to work this pm - didn't go down well with pregnant boss as baby screamed for a feed when I was meant to be in a meeting (not professional).

SpottyTeacakes · 19/04/2013 14:34

Oh dear diec hope you didn't get in trouble.

Yep def stop taking them if you don't need them.

I know I'm feeling really sorry for myself Sad

OP posts:
BonaDea · 19/04/2013 16:57

Oh dear spotty poor you! What is the usual plan of attack ?!

Diec - nightmare. Did you just end up feeding her there and then?! I should be signed off to drive again next week and then the pressure will be on to take T to the office. It takes 45 mins to drive there so will be quite the trip! Think I will just have to park up nearby and try to do a big feed before going in and hope that means he doesn't need feeding and stays angelic!

mylittlepuds · 19/04/2013 16:57

Stopped! Pudlet let stopped wriggling now Grin

Heart goes out to Spotty and Bona. You're both doing so well.

Diec have a bath and a nice glass of wine tonight - you deserve it!

Hoping still thinking about you. X

mylittlepuds · 19/04/2013 16:57

Pudlet let?! I mean Pudlet.

dieciocho · 19/04/2013 17:20

Yep, just rushed into a classroom, locked the door and stuck her on the boob. Boss waited outside and made comments about V.'s loud crying Hmm
Oooh, puds, that sounds like a plan! Grin

mylittlepuds · 19/04/2013 17:26

Mmmm wine!

I've been having a glass while bfing - used to have a couple with DS and he's turned out okay if a little unruly. What's everyone else been doing?

SpottyTeacakes · 19/04/2013 17:40

I'm not a big drinker really but a glass or two is fine IMO Smile
