Anyone had Fetal MRI at Kings--help me prepare...

Had a scan today (am 27 wks). Baby has severe ventriculomegaly, excess fluid on both sides of the brain. I've been told this could mean anything from absolutely nothing, to potentially severe brain problem or tumour. So am having MRI so they can get a good look inside the brain and see that everything is OK. At least I know it's not chromosone related, as I had clear amnio already.
I'm going to get a call in next 2 days or so to go to Kings for scanhas anyone been and what is it like? Is it as noisy as a normal MRI? I'll be going by myself as DH can't get time off and I won't be getting any results that daywill be going back to my own consultant for them.

Arabica, I so know what you mean.
Yesterday I cried for hours and hours, and baby was very quiet which didn't help one bit.
Today I'm feeling all optimistic and calm again.

It is such a rollercoaster.
Hang in there. XXX

Well, I had the MRI and I have to say it really wasn't too bad at all--much less noisy than I had expected. I also did not have a long wait, got seem immediately. Afterwards nobody seemed to know what happened next re my result, but I eventually discovered it would take 2 days...not sure how I will cope with the wait but I do have some work to get on with.

hope the result is more positive news for you, keep us posted

emkana · 22/05/2006 23:03

All this waiting is terrible, isn't it?

Will they phone you on Wednesday or will you see somebody?

My thoughts are with you! XX

melsy · 23/05/2006 09:11

awww Arabica , glad it wasnt bad as you thought , its the apprehension of things that can be awful. Sorry you have to wait for the results. I cried my eyes out having cat scan after dd, so you did well to stay calm.

Hope you have a busy day so your not getting to many worried thoughts.

Thinking of you

Melsy xx

Marina · 23/05/2006 09:16

Glad the experience wasn't as horrible as anticipated and really hoping for the best of outcomes for you on Wednesday arabica x

Arabica · 23/05/2006 09:40

I think the idea is that they phone me, and if they don't then I will call on Thursday morning. But I have a feeling I will get an answer before that.

arabica, glad it wasn't too awful, been thinking about you lots, xxx

Blu · 23/05/2006 10:01

They send the images to your consultant to have a look at, don't they.

Thinking of you.

Arabica · 23/05/2006 10:05

I really don't know, they said there are only one or two people who can interpret the results, so depemds when they have spare time. I've got to stop thinking about it, I remember when I was waiting for the amnio results, I was constantly nauseous with anxiety; this doesn't feel quite so bad but am still obviously v screwed up--am off now to run some errands.
