Had a scan today (am 27 wks). Baby has severe ventriculomegaly, excess fluid on both sides of the brain. I've been told this could mean anything from absolutely nothing, to potentially severe brain problem or tumour. So am having MRI so they can get a good look inside the brain and see that everything is OK. At least I know it's not chromosone related, as I had clear amnio already.
I'm going to get a call in next 2 days or so to go to Kings for scanhas anyone been and what is it like? Is it as noisy as a normal MRI? I'll be going by myself as DH can't get time off and I won't be getting any results that daywill be going back to my own consultant for them.

It's not over, oops, i still have to have the MRI. But yes I would love to go to Clissold (unless we're talking a meet-up without kids in which case I would prefer elsewhere!)

Oh, i know, the MRI.
I was just thinking today is over with..
i have been thinking about you this week, it's been a really tough pg for you, i do hope that it all turns out well.
I'm back to work on 6th July, but havea few Fridays free before that, boys will have to come too.
We could see who else is up for it and let the kids run around a bit.
2nd June?????

That's half term so DS will be with me, sounds like a good idea!

Didn't get a call on Friday re date of my MRI scan, so I expect it'll be tomorrow, with the appointment some time in the week to come. I think all the waiting is the worst part of this whole episode. It makes me feel even more out of control.
Thanks for all the support and good vibes, it really helps to know there are people out there to listen and offer support and experience. Once I am through this nightmare I hope I will be able to do the same for others.

will strat a thread fro clissold park too.
will be lovely to see you and your ds, hope the weather will be good so they can run around a bit.

Just rang to check and I am definintely getting a call today once the consultant responsible for arranging MRI dates has time to ring me!

OP posts:
Arabica · 15/05/2006 19:06

They didn't ring! This is doing my head in.

Do you also have to go back weekly now for normal fetal scans Arabica? Still thinking of you and hoping you are ok .

Arabica · 15/05/2006 21:59

Not so far as I knowI have the MRI and then maybe another MRI at 34 wks to see if the brain has developed properly, I don't know if I need any further ordinary scanshope not, I think the baby and I have been prodded enough!
Anyone heard from Emkana, would like to know how she is doing.

emkana · 16/05/2006 09:19

Arabica, very annoying that you still haven't had an appointment through! Angry
Hope they'll ring you today!
It's very kind of you to be thinking of me.
I'm okay-ish, three weeks to go now, must admit I'm slightly terrified.
Another scan next Monday to determine fluid level, position, head size etc and then to decide what type of birth/when to have him.

Good luck for you!!!

Arabica · 16/05/2006 19:27

Hope you get to have the birth you want, or at least to have some input. I am having a C-section anyway, but I think when that happens is going to be decided for me.
I still didn't get my phone call, by the way.

Still no effing phone call, rang Harris Birthright to see what's happening and was told the consultant who arranges MRI scans was in the Lebanon, that there is just one consultant on duty today, and maybe I should call tomorrow when more people are available. Left my number for a call back but don't hold out much hope. Feel really, really fed up. All this would be bad enough on its own, but our flat is upside down due to building work, and our downstairs neighbours are being absolutely hideous, so I don't even feel comfortable and secure in my own space.

Hi Arabica. It was good to read the results so far aren't too bad and I hope the next MRIs work out well too. I know a little girl who had a shunt for hydrocephalus (discovered a few weeks after birth) and she's 15 months now and absolutely fine and adorable. Good luck with the scans.

Arabica · 17/05/2006 12:44

Thanks Cristina, that's vg news.
Have finally got a date for scan, it's 8 June! So much for needing it done urgently. I'll be 32 wks by then.

Arabica · 17/05/2006 13:17

Just got another call from the hospital, scan been moved forward to Monday 11.45am. Thank goodness--was just sitting here thinking, I can't handle another 3 wks wait.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 17/05/2006 13:58

Good luck on Monday, Arabica. I'm sure even that date seems like too far away. Take care.

Twiglett · 17/05/2006 14:01

Arabica .. have only just seen this

do you have to lug small children there? Am happy for you to dump them on me (I'm about 10 mins away) have 2 year old ... happy to have MI's little one too if she's going with you

Twiglett · 17/05/2006 14:03

(was registered as a childminder ages ago .. pass all the tests .. and I don't eat small children btw )

Arabica · 17/05/2006 14:15

Twiglett, how kind of you. Luckily DS will be at school and can be collected by my friend. I think I will be OK on my own, as I have had an MRI before but I have a friend on standby to meet me there if I feel I need her.

OP posts:
Twiglett · 17/05/2006 14:17

ok .. sent you a CAT anyway so you have my email if you need anything

Blu · 17/05/2006 14:21

I'm also just up the road.....Twiglett has my mobile number, you're welcome to it if you reply to her CAT.

bundle · 18/05/2006 12:33

arabica, everything crossed for Monday, glad they squeezed you in, 3 weeks would have been unbearable for us, never mind you Smile Do text if you'd like a coffee, one of dd2's friends has pulled out of a playdate because her mum is snowed under with work

Arabica · 18/05/2006 14:47

I am having another crap day, but luckily it's nearly school pick-up time, so I will be busy with DS--we're going on a playdate. 'I can play with J, mummy, and you can play with his mummy.' Can't stop thinking the worst. I have moments when I feel positive, but now isn't one of them. It helps when baby is active but s/he is having a very slow day today.

OP posts:
bundle · 18/05/2006 14:48

oh love, do let me know if you want to meet up tomorrow.. i wonder if hc is around too
